Electrike was surprised to hear Kamari's voice. She was actually coming after her? Someone- and a trainer at that- was risking themselves for her? She let out a long, loud howl to tell her where exactly she was at that moment. Scyther snarled, before smiling. He could fight this little rescue party, he could. That'd show them not to mess with Bug types! He darted over to her.
Scyther let out a tremendous intimidating cry as he emerged from a bush. Electrike was squirming under one arm, and he threw her down. She blinked, barely staying concious. She tried to move, but didn't have the strength. And Scyther was in the way between her and Kamari. A fight was inevitable. Scyther was letting Kamari go first, to choose her Pokémon.

Reiki picked up his head, as he was the first one to hear the howl. He looked at Kamari with concerned eyes and asked, ~Are you ready for this, Kamari? It's your first battle. And here it comds.~ The Electrike daemon was able to scent the Scyther a moment before he arrived.
Kamari resisted the temptation to scream as the Scyther jumped out. She took a step back quickly. Reiki shook his head. ~Only Kamari has the misfortune and terrible luck to fight her first battle with a Scyther.~ The daemon said with a sigh, ~Kamari, Kuno isn't the best match up for a Scyther.~
The trainer shook her head stubbornly. "No. Kuno was my first Pokemon, and he will be the first to fight." Kamari gulped. She loathed the idea of ordering her new friend around. She said hesitantly, "Uh, Kuno...Use, um...Growl?" She flinched when she completed her sentence. She would have to get used to this before continuing on her journey.
The Cubone glared at the Bug type Pokemon. He looked angered that the Pokemon would dare take the Electrike. Kuno pointed his bone weapon at the opponent and said with hurt anger in his little voice, ~You took friend...Me gonna beat you!~ He made a strange noise, which eventually grew into the attack Growl.

Scyther took a step back at the Growl. It was pretty scary, and pretty angry. That wasn't a very nice thing to hear. He felt his Attack stat falter and slip a little. Not an alarming amount, but still enough to get him nicely agitated. The preying mantis Pokémon ran one of his scythes along the other in a menacing fasion, but in truth none of his attacks was used with those things... yet.
Scyther were a Bug type, which were normally slow. However, Scyther was an incredibly fast Pokémon, not just for Bug types but for Pokémon in general. This one presently considered his attack for a few moments, before demonstrating this amount of speed in his attack. He was almost a blur as he rushed towards Kuno, using a sharp, good, strong, Quick Attack.

Kamari and Kuno gave a small jump of happiness when the Scyther reacted, but it quickly turned into a mixture of fear and shock when the Pokemon started to rub his scythes together and attacked Kuno with a Quick Attack. The Cubone stumbled backward, tears welling up in his eyes. He shivered, slowly rising back up.
"Kuno!" Kamari exlaimed out of shock. She shuddered, unable to continue. Reiki rubbed up against her.
The daemon encouraged her, ~Come on, Kamari! I know you can do this! We're a team. You're going to save the Electrike, aren't you?~
Kamari gave a small nod. With a shaky voice, she said, "Yeah, we can do this! Kuno, let's try an Iron Head attack!"
The Cubone leaned forward, rushing at a somewhat slow speed towards the Scyther, the skull on his head glowing with the attack.

Scyther looked surprised as Kuno launched into an Iron Head attack. What? That was an insanely strong attack for such a young Pokémon to be using! Oh, wait. Cubone weren't too common on route one, and there was only one other explaination as to where he could have come from. The lab. Yes, that seemed sensible. All lab Pokémon had egg moves, and Iron Head must be Kuno's. Anyway, he wasn't moving too quickly. Taking advantage of his high speed stat, the Bug type dodged the Iron head with ease.
Ur, now what? He was too close to Kuno to get in a good Quick Attack, since he'd have no build-up. It didn't cross his mind, but he was very open to another Iron Head. The Scyther didn't realize this, and so luck was on Kamari's side as he decided to use a Focus Energy. This kept him nicely still as he concentrated hard on his opponent, raising the chances he had of scoring a critical hit on the cute Ground type.

A good chunk of Kamari's renewed confidence shattered when the Iron Head attack missed. Kuno also seemed to be taking negative effects. He was looking over at the Scyther warily and with fear in his eyes. The new trainer didn't have a clue what to do. Brother, I really need you now! You would know what to do, and I obviously don't...
Reiki, seeming to read Kamari's thoughts, jumped up and put his forelegs on her. ~Come on, Kamari! Where's your cheerful self! We both know deep inside that you can do this. Look closer...The Scyther is near Kuno, now. You need to be stragetic. And remember, this is only your first battle. You have plenty of time to improve. Come on, let's go!~ With the last sentence, the Electrike gave a somewhat bark and wagged his tail furiously.
Kamari nodded, punching the air with her fist. She exclaimed, "Yeah, you're right, Reiki! Let's give it what we got, Kuno! Try another Iron Head, with a side order of power!"
The Cubone shook his head, getting up again. Once more, the skull on his head glowed as he rushed toward the opponent with another Iron Head attack.

Scyther smiled. Didn't they learn? He was far too fast to be hit by an Iron Head- oh, wait. The Iron Head was only about a foot away, since he'd gone and got himself close to Kuno. He was in deep trouble now. The Bug type attempted to dart away, clinging onto the desperate hope that his speed stat would be great enough to save him again. He had no such luck, the powerful Steel type move striking him hard and painfully.
Scyther narrowed his eyes in anger. OK, now Kuno would have to pay for that. It was such a shame he didn't know a move as tough as the Cubone's. Quick Attack was the only offensive move he knew, and so he would use it. After all, it wasn't like he had a choice, really. The Pokémon moved backwards, really feeling aches and pains from that extremely powerful move, and launched a Quick Attack at Kuno.

Kuno looked at Kumori cheerfully when the attack hit. The trainer smiled at him and encouraged, "Yeah, keep up the good work! Just keep your eye out, and we'll be- oh!" The Cubone noticed the oncoming Scyther before Kumori did. So much for her advice. The new trainer started to panic. What now? Would another Iron Head hit? Would they be lucky? Would it miss and cause Kuno to be hurt? She bit her bottom lip in anxiety. Soon, she realized that she had worried for too long, and the Scyther was right next to Kuno. She squealed, "Kuno! Oh...oh no!"
Kuno skidded backward from the Quick Attack, bursting into tears. Kumori cried out, "We can do this, Kuno! We can, just believe that!" Although, she herself was trembling with fear. She wasn't meant for this, she really wasn't. Reiki answered, as if hearing her thoughts, ~Then we'll just need to adapt.~ Kamari hesitated, then nodded. Ferocity came back to her eyes as she called out, "We'll have to lower the Scyther's attack power! Try a Growl!"
An odd sound came from the small Kuno, that slowly grew into a recognizable Growl attack. Kumori crossed her fingers, hoping this would help.

Scyther couldn't help but feel a tad guilty as he saw that he had made little Kuno burst into tears. The Cubone wasn't used to battling, after all. He smiled a little. ~Don't cry, little fella. You're doing great; see? I'm feeling weak already. Even if things look bad, I've got a lot of experience and you must remember that someone will always be better than you.~ the Bug type couldn't help but say. The Growl lowered his attack stat, but he didn't mind too much. He'd manage.
Now, hopefully Kuno would make a fierce, worthy opponent with the little prompting. Scyther wasn't only encouraging him for his own benifit, but for his too; if Kuno kept fighting, Scyther might win and the Cubone would be tired either way. He moved in for another Quick Attack. The attack was, as the name suggested, quick and accurate, but thanks to the Growl it wouldn't be as strong. It would also give Kuno a good opertunity for an attack.
