With Furnblaze the Vulpix trotting along at his side, Jax hummed to himself as he walked. His belt now carried a second occupied Pokeball, containing Celebi, which he had decided to name Cyril.
Gareth was, as per usual, around Jax's shoulders, watching the world around him with bright eyes. Jax opened his beak slightly and created a piercing whistling noise, startling all three of them. "I didn't know I could still whistle," Jax admitted, then chuckled. He knelt and let Cyril out. "Ribibi!" Cyril exclaimed, looking at Jax. This didn't really translate, as it was simply an expression of excitement.

A Pokémon watched them, awe in his eyes. A Celebi! This was an odd bunch. Well, aside from the perfectly normal Vulpix, this was an odd bunch. A beak-man. A beak! Like him!He clicked his own beak, trying to mimic the odd whistle he had heard earlier. He couldn't; the only sound his larynx was capable of was cooes, caws, twitters and clicks. He used the twittering one as he swooped low from his branch, landing on none other than Furnblaze.
~TAILOW!~ the tiny swallow cawed in surprise. He had been aiming for the spot in front of Furnblaze! Urgh, that was annoying. Well, it might as well start the battle. That was what trainers did, right? Fight in battles? Tailow fluttered into the air, moving a clawed foot in a 'bring it on' motion.

"Wha-?" Jax spluttered in surprise, then grinned when the Tailow waved its claw in a familiar gesture. "All right, Furnblaze. You're up! Cyril, return!" Cyril vanished into the Pokeball in Jax's hand, and Furnblaze spun around and barked fiercely. "OK, Furnblaze, let's see you use that Ember of yours!" A burst of small flames shot from Furnblaze's mouth, streaking towards the Tailow.

Tailow trilled a high note as he arched his wings, stretching them out wide as the small bird soared beyond the reach of the flames. This was fun! And maybe he would even win! That would be really great, but he knew that although Flying types had speed, they didn't have much Defense. However, he could still try. After all, there was never any harm in trying, right? The Tailow dipped lower, streaking through the air as he swooped lower, feeling the rush of wind through his feathers. He sighed, relaxing his wings a little as he sped up, moving towards Furnblaze. His beak glinted as he came at the Vulpix in a Peck.

"Furnblaze!" Jax shouted, "Counter that peck with your Ember! Then use Tail Whip to lower its defences!"
Furnblaze blasted forth a stream of small flames, putting as much as he could into the attack. Gareth watched the battle with abject fascination; this was Jax's first battle as a Trainer, rather than a Coordinator, and he was handling it in a completely different manner.

Tailow nimbly dodged out the way of the flames, but the Tail Whip neatly struck it's mark, lowering the bird's Defense stat. He trilled a high note, arching over in the air. It was noticable how he flew lower during battle, probably to stop his unfair advantage. After all, battles had to be played fairly, right? Tailow, along with most Flying types, had extremely good Speed stats, but not too good Defenses. This meant that Tailow wouldn't take too many attacks to go down; the problem was getting the attacks to hit.
The bird presently curved around again, diving towards Furnblaze in a quick Peck attack, hoping to strike this time.

Jax growled, "Furnblaze, dodge that Peck, and try your Ember again!" Furnblaze promptly fell flat amidst the grass and ran forwards as fast as he could. (Sorry it's so short ^^

Tailow was presently having a perticulally curageous moment. He saw that the Vulpix was running fast towards him, which made him hatch a plan. Vulpix were no where near as fast as Tailow, so if Tailow raced towards the fox Pokémon himself, when his Peck collided with him, it would be even more powerful! The bird Pokémon dived straight through the Ember, crying out in pain as he did so, and sped towards Furnblaze in a Peck. This was bound to hit.

Furnblaze yelped as the Tailow's beak cut a gash on the left side of his face. He didn't even wait for his trainer's orders before retaliating with Ember; there wasn't a whole lot his Trainer could ask him to do, since he only had two moves. Jax shouted out, "Nice try, Furnblaze! Keep at it! Use Ember agai-. Oh." The "oh" was because Furnblaze was already following that order.
Gareth cocked his head, intrigued. Furnblaze appeared to be something of a hothead, like his trainer.

Tailow knew that these Ember attacks hurt, especially with this weakened Defense thanks to the Tail Whip from earlier. He shuffled his feathers uneasily in mid-air, preparing himself to dodge the Ember attack; he didn't want to feel that amount of damage come over him again, did he? He attempted to dive down softly, lightly and gently to the ground. However, partway down, the feeling of the Ember attack singing his feathers startled him, and he tumbled to the ground. The good thing was that he had dodged the Ember. The bad thing was that he had fallen painfully and revealed a weakness to Jax; that he was startled easily, with bad consequences. The Tailow then attempted to make up for this by surrounding himself in light; a Focus Energy attack, intended to up the rate of critical hits he caused.

Jax would have smiled if he could. "Heh," he muttered, "Do it's easily startled." "OK, Furnblaze, use your Ember again. But watch out! It's used Focus Energy!" "Right," Furnblaze said, then bounded forward, spewing embers at the Tailow.

Tailow, as much as he tried, couldn't dodge the Ember. He wasn't as fast on the ground, and he couldn't take off quick enough. Luckily, he had managed to launch himself into the air, but unfortunately, it seemed that Furnblaze's Ember was a little quicker than he had planned, making him feel a lot of pain on his underside. The bird cawed in pain, desperately flapping his wings in attempt to escape the blaze. Once the Ember was over, and with a lightly charred stomach, Tailow dived directly at the Vulpix in a Peck. Would he strike?

"Furnblaze, counter with Ember! If it gets too close, dodge it!" Furnblaze immediately leapt to the left, spewing out more embers simultaneously. Nonetheless, the Tailow's beak clipped the side of his torso, drawing a long line of blood.

ooc// Tip for roleplaying; Put in about the Pokémon and the trainer's reaction to the previous attack, and their feelings and thought put in to making their next one.
ic// Tailow cheered for his win, doing a little loop-the-loop in mid-air. He chattered excitedly, grinning. It was obvious he was tireing; his flanks were heaving up and down as he panted, beats of sweat forming on his brow. Well, where his brow would be if he had one. As great as it was that he was getting some attacks in, Furnblaze was strong and had struck more times than he had. How agitating. He cawed in fear as he saw the tongue of flames darting swiftly through the air towards him. Any moment now, they would strike. He pumped his wings frantically, up and down, but it was no use. Wailing as he plummeted to the ground, the Ember had struck him nicely. He had fainted before he touched the ground. Jax, his daemon, and Furnblaze had won their first battle! Well done!
Tailow fainted! Furnblaze gains two levels! Tailow is now catchable!

OOC: Gotcha. I'll try to do that in the future.
IC: Jax would have grinned if he could have. Giving a shout, he pulled out a Pokeball, and side-armed it at the Tailow. Furnblaze, taken off-guard byt the sudden victory, blinked several times, then a happy cry bubbled up and burst out. "Our first victory!" Jax yelled, running up to Furnblaze and hugging him. Furnblaze licked the side of Jax's face, and Jax laughed. "You did it," Gareth said, coiling around both Pokemon and Pokemorph. "Yeah!" Jax exclaimed, excited. He turned to the Tailow and the pokeball he had thrown. "Now we just have to see whether I caught that Tailow."
