So this is where they give out starters.
The girl halted before the door of the laboratory, regarding the compound with a critical eye. Her gaze was cold, calculating; she was debating between the many choices she had for her starter. The closest contenders were Treecko, Aerodactyl, and Larvitar. She wasn't a fool; she knew most, if not all, of the Pokémon she wished to capture and breed were hard to come by. The easiest, and one of the most wanted, had to be Ekans. She would use this chance to pick a Pokémon from her list that would be near-impossible to find elsewhere. As it was, she was torn between the latter.
"They mightn't even have these," Jun remarked casually from behind her. The Daemon was crouching on her backpack, in Treecko form, one paw on her right shoulder. He glanced around the complex, eyeing the huge fenced-off area a tad wistfully: two Charmanders were playing chase around an area that looked like a garden, with a harried Mudkip chasing after them, putting out any fires the Charmanders started. Beside them, a Seviper was facing off a Zangoose; both looked battle-scarred and experienced, as if they were old enemies who grew up together and fought every so often.
"True. But the lab is well-known for its stock of even the rarest Pokémon," Xuan replied, drawing his attention back to her. "Even fossils. It is entirely possible that they—"
"—Give out Aerodactyls to beginners?" Scoffed her Daemon. He shifted swiftly into an Ekans, twining his tail along her arm and his neck around hers. "I don't believe so. We might be better off picking a commoner one – say, that Mudkip – than appearing… greedy. Overly ambitious."
"I wasn't aware that you now cared about others' perceptions," she retorted acidly. "I will have a starter I chose. That, my Daemon, is the end of it." Without giving him a chance to dissuade her again, the Weavile 'morph marched the last two steps to the laboratory door and gave it a firm, loud rap.

Professor Pine jumped at the sudden loud rapping on his door. Oh! A trainer must be here for their first Pokémon, since he was expecting one. Then again, they didn't usually sound so firm and confident... was it someone looking for a job or an old colleage visiting him? He'd find out soon enough; he could always tell whether or not someone was here for a starter when he looked at them. He hurried over to the door and opened it, revealing a Weavile 'morph whom he could see without doubt was here for their starter.
"Hello, I'm Professor Pine, although you might have guessed that. This-" he gestured to the Noctowl perched on his shoulder, lamp like eyes fixed on Jun, "-is Telepa, my daemon. Please, do come in." he introduced himself, waving the girl inside his lab. The room she then saw was the one seen by all new trainers. It was large, with a couple of squashy armchairs, a desk and some filing cabinets, along with a large space for new trainers to view potential starters, and walls covered in posters. Pine smiled at Xuan. "We recently got a new shipment in, so we have a lot of Pokémon. You can see a few, if you'd like. Do you have in mind what Pokémon you'd like?" he asked, hoping she'd already given it some thought.

Xuan blinked as the door opened, revealing a professor and his Noctowl Daemon. She peered around him, slightly curious, and eyed the lab with a mixture of amusement and distaste. The armchairs were not what she would consider professional. Jun's carefully-disguised snicker revealed that he thought the same; the Ekans flowed down her body to land as a Treecko again.
She acknowledged his introduction with a curt nod of her head, briefly considering if she should return the courtesy. Deciding that it was virtually pointless to do so, she gave the Noctowl a once-over and entered the room, as per Professor Pine's instructions. Jun, slightly exasperated by her behaviour, filled in for her: "This is Xuan. I am Jun, her Daemon." He nodded politely yet warily towards Telepa, flickering into his Weavile form for a moment before regaining his most common shape. "Please excuse us; we are not prone to socialisation."
Xuan, in the meantime, had moved to the centre of the room, regarding the posters on one wall with interest. One proclaimed that "Your Pokémon may have Pokérus, and you wouldn't even know it!", while another questioned, "Have you seen THIS yet?", with a brightly-coloured and simplified diagram of the newly-discovered Enera Pokémon. Jun padded over, clearly uninterested by the second poster, and peered at the first one with great alarm.
"That's good to hear," she replied to the professor's statement about the new shipment. "As a matter of fact, I happen to require all of your normal and Shiny individuals of the species Treecko, Larvitar and Aerodactyl." She paused, revising her statement after a second: "If you do not have the latter two, I will be satisfied with viewing your Treecko population." Jun made a small, disgusted sound, as if he thought that she oughtn't view the Treecko as a less-important species.

Pine blinked as Xuan made her request. Shiny and normal of all those Pokemon? But that was six Pokemon! Well, four, since he knew he had no shiny versions of the rarest of the three, Aerodactyl and Larvitar. Four Pokemon, young starter Pokemon, were much more managable than six. The Professor gave a nod, glancing at the posters she had seemed so interested in. He didn't notice anything too bad about them, and shrugged to himself, Telepa on his shoulder grumbling in protest as he made his way to the filing cabinets.
After a little fumbling around in three different drawers, Pine finally had four shrunk Pokeballs in his hands. He smiled, maximing then releasing each one in quick sucession so he then had four Pokemon standing on the floor of the lab. The Treecko looked Xuan, moving towards her like a predator to prey before feeling that she wasn't a threat and relaxing, clearly a dominative and proud Pokemon. The shiny seemed a bit shyier, but came closer to the 'morph out of curiosity. The Aerodactyl stretched its wings proudly, not flying for the reduced room but still looking menacing. The Larvitar raced right up to Xuan, grinning happily up at her.

Xuan watched with interest as the professor returned with only four Pokéballs. It must mean that they don’t have some Pokémon, she thought, slightly disappointed by the fact. Still, her outward appearance remained cold and unperturbed. She waited for the professor to release the Pokémon; four flashes of light later, she found herself staring at two Treeckos, one Aerodactyl and one Larvitar.
Jun, a Treecko himself, hissed with alarm as the normal-coloured one stalked towards Xuan. It soon stopped, after taking a close look at the Weavile-'morph, and Jun relaxed as well. He maintained a protective pose, though, clearly worried that a Pokémon was about to attack.
The Shiny Treecko seemed shy and curious at the same time; Xuan gave it a cursory glance before deeming it as worthless to her. She wanted a suitably strong, yet easygoing, Pokémon as a starter. She couldn't afford to spend time trying to coax her first Pokémon into trusting her fully, or to find a suitable mate that it would accept easily. She marked down the normal Treecko as a possible candidate, though the predatory response would not make it conducive for mating purposes. The Aerodactyl, likewise, was struck off the list. It looked too proud, and Xuan knew the risks of having a Pokémon who would not listen to her. She rather admired the wingspan, though.
The Larvitar caught her by surprise, racing up to her boldly and grinning up. Slightly hesitant, she reached out a hand to the Pokémon, who clutched her with a happy squeak. I like it, she thought, surprised. "It's probably either very confident or very, very stupid," she informed her Daemon, though the slight quirk at one corner of her mouth gave the lie to her words. Picking it up, she nodded to Prof. Pine, immediately distant again. "I would like to choose this Larvitar. Thank you very much."
Meanwhile, Jun had struck up a conversation with the starter-to-be: "Eaten a mountain, lately?"

ooc// Larvitar's mountain eating description is a bit of a fail, since it isn't as if mountains grow back.
ic//Professor Pine watched Xuan's expression as she eyed each Pokémon, a little worried that she wouldn't find the perfect Pokémon. She hadn't seemed to have rejected the normal Treecko, but she hadn't seemed immensely fond of it either. Finally, she decided on the Larvitar. Pine could see that they were pretty much the perfect match, and returned the other Pokémon, returning the Pokéballs to the drawer in his filing cabinet. Good, he'd found another trainer her Pokémon.
Larvitar laughed, playing along. ~Yeah, every breakfast. Nutritionous, no? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.~[/color] it nodded. Pine smiled, seeing that they seemed to be getting along well. That was a good sign; close bonds between trainer, daemon and Pokémon generally strengthened their battles. He could see great potential in Xuan, and hoped she would go far. He handed over Larvitar's Pokéball and a drawstring bag of starter's items. "Right, you're all set for Route One!" he smiled. OOC: True, true. But it's fun. :3 I treat it as a legend the Pokémon-Universe people tell, hehe.

Xuan tried to shift the Larvitar to a more comfortable position and watched as the professor returned the other Pokémon to their Pokéballs. The Larvitar was heavy; this was a particularly young and light specimen, but she still weighed in at more than ten kilograms. And when she grew a few more levels… Xuan shuddered to think about what would happen if she tried to lift the Pokémon then. With a sigh, she sat her down on the ground.
Jun, meanwhile, was grinning at the reply. "I love you already. Got time to finish eating that hill over there?" He pointed off to a small bump in the far distance. "I don't want to climb that thing when we get there." He grinned even wider, showing that he was joking about it, and clambered down to join his new friend on the floor. The two were soon engaged in conversation.
Xuan took the bag and the Pokéball from the professor, slinging the bag across her chest and shoulder like a satchel, and placed the ball on her belt. It fit comfortably into the first slot – reserved for the starter, as always. "Thank you," she replied to his comment on being set for Route One – she was sure of that, at least. Manipulating her backpack and her satchel was really going to be a bother, but she was sure she could manage. Nodding a last farewell to Prof. Pine, she collected Jun and the Larvitar with a hand gesture and strode out of the door.
Rex, she thought, on the way out; I'll name her Rex.
