►"Geez, we've finally gotten here! Good riddance. That took a while!" Snapping his pincer with impatience, Ajax trudged up the pathway eagerly, breaking into a jog with Nyx striding beside him. She had turned into a Ninetales, and was easily keeping pace, her long, scarlet-rust-tipped tails flowing behind her. "Ugh, there's so much weird terrain around here! So different from Telaseine." Scowling, he faded into uncharacteristic silence as he brooded for a few minutes about his home, the heavy red claw swinging by his side. Then, shaking himself, he said, "So, Nyx, how are we going to choose a starter? We don't know of most types of Pokemon, really, and it's not like you can change around so we can see all of them. Let's try to get someone strong, though, so I can beat the League as fast as possible and go back!" «
► "It's not we'll be able to finish this thing in under a year, you know. It takes time to undertake these sorts of things," Nyx replied, raising her eyebrows and halting as they treaded into the shade of the Enera Lab. The noonday sun was high in the sky, but she was comfortable in her fire kitsune form. Eyes glinting, she continued, "We'll just need to be smart and efficient, that's all. And firstly, we'll need a starter." She paced into the welcoming shade, raising her brows again and looking back her human when he didn't follow. "I've been watching the various types of pokemon around here, and I think a fire-type would probably be best. Most of them grow up to be relatively powerful." Another pause. Then--"Coming?" «
► Walking into the gate and over the compound for the first time, Ajax looked around, jaw dropping slightly. Although fences covered most of his view, from what he could see, there were little pokemon rolling in the grass, large ones sparring, furry ones dozing in the sun, water-types splashing in a pond nearby. "Even the..." He shut his eyes tightly, refraining from saying the name. "There weren't even this many at home..." «
► Breathing patiently out of her snout, Nyx ignored him and carried on, striding confidently up to the door of the Lab. Lifting one slender, creamy paw, she tapped twice on the door, beckoning Ajax forward with one of her tails. "Knock, knock," she said, ears pricked and tails flared elegantly around her. "Anyone home?" «

Professor Pine, from somewhere inside the lab, heard the knocking on the door. Ah, a new trainer for him to unite with a Pokémon! He wondered which Pokémon this trainer would choose. Maybe one of the Pokémon that had been around for a while, perhaps... yes, that might be useful. The Professor hurried to the door, Noctowl dæmon hooting a greeting as he opened the door. Pine had his usual welcoming smile on his face as he looked at the Sizor 'morph, seeming not to care that Arjax was a Pokémorph.
"Hello, and welcome to Pine Labs. I'm Professor Pine, and my dæmon is Telepa. Please, do come in." he introduced himself, stepping aside to allow Arjax and Nyx the strange, three-formed dæmon to enter the lab. He smiled again once they were inside, looking at the boy's expression and hoping that he had thought about what he wanted. Now for the big life changing question! "What Pokémon would you like?" he asked.

►Staying frozen for a few more moments as he watched the Pokemon behind the fence, Ajax jumped slightly as Professor Pine answered the door, quickly attempting to fall back behind a squinty-eyed, mean-looking façade. "Er," he murmured awkwardly, subconsciously lowering his shoulders and bringing his claw in front of him in the forerunners of a battle stance, staring at the Professor and his dæmon for a few moments. Then, realizing what he was doing, Ajax blinked and swiftly glanced away, trying to hide his embarrassment. "Sure," he muttered, "...Thanks." For a few more moments his two-clawed feet kicked the dirt, but putting on a determined face, he strode confidently towards the Lab, accepting the Professor's invitation with a small nod, although he sidestepped as he passed right by Prof. Pine, careful not to touch him with the lethal-looking claw that hung by his side. As he passed through the doorway, he declared, "I'm Ajax. She's Nyx." «
►Nyx had delayed for a second or two, waiting for Ajax, but now she entered the Lab with her human, ears pricked and dark scarlet eyes gleaming, saying nothing to neither Prof. Pine nor Telepa. She did not remember the lab from her birth, and she had never gone to any other laboratory, so she glanced around, hungrily taking in the image. It's surprisingly cheerful for my original image of a lab, Nyx thought, observing the rays of light falling into the room from the skylight above them, along with the various potted plants in the room and the pleasant smell of young Pokemon-- and people, her lips twitched with amusement. Of course, all the components of an expected laboratory were here too; small silver gadgets whirred and puffed, along with tubes and larger machines blinking quietly to themselves. Stretching her neck, she could see that beyond a few shelves filled with books and documents, there lay row upon row of Pokeballs, small tags next to each of them detailing the Pokemon inside them. Curling her tails neatly around her, she sat down, commenting, "You seem to be well-organized." « ►Keeping close to Nyx so as to hide his impending nervousness, Ajax rolled his eyes, replying, "Duh he's well organized, how else d'you think he could run the lab?"Clacking his claw, peering around curiously himself as the wings at his back fluttered gently. It was far less hot in here, so at least the wings would be able to relax a bit. After glancing around, he faced Professor Pine's question. "Pokemon? Well, I want something strong that'll grow fast." He did not mention his aspirations of defeating the Pokemon League. After all, it was not up to this random guy to know what he was up to. "Preferably something fast who can take a tough situation. One that's strong, and powerful!" Remembering Nyx's earlier words, he added, "Oh, and a fire-type would be nice. Maybe one that..." He trailed off as he gave a sideways glance at his dæmon beside him, who had just blinked, gazing at him flatly. He frowned, watching her. « ► "All of the traditional fire starters and their shinies would be nice to see, if you could," Nyx said calmly, bringing her paw close to her mouth, licking it with her small pink tongue, and drawing it over one ear. She preferred the shinies; their coats were unique, which she enjoyed, and while they tended to be more nervous at first, she knew their originality and overcoming of their apprehension would make them stronger later. "Specifically, Charmander and Torchic, though we won't say no to the others. Bagon and Beldum, too." Ignoring Ajax's startled look, she continued, "While he's looking at those, would you mind lending me one of your books for a few minutes, one of those detailing all the individual Pokemon discovered so far? Not just photos--I mean information, too, such as stats, moves, size, et cetera." She considered for a moment whether to go on. Although Nyx disliked revealing their weaknesses, the Professor had been handing Pokemon out his life and was most likely one of those 'kind old souls'. "You see, we don't come from Enera or any region that has lots of Pokemon, so we don't know much about the different types." She did not mention that she was unable to turn into different Pokemon, and the glint in her eye suggested they not ask. «[/blockquote] Ooc:// I'm aiming for him to get a shiny Torchic in the end, by the way. :P

Birdy//♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ooc// You can check out the Pokédex for Pokémon information, but it's far from finished xD
ic// Telepa heard Nyx commenting on Pine's organization skill, and clicked her beak in a small laugh. ~Trust me, young dæmon, I'm the organized one. Pine is no way tidy in any form.~ she said with a smile, Pine making an annoyed sound, but a smile was at his lips. The Professor heard Nyx make the request. Wow, she seemed so much like a pushy mum or something. He raised an eyebrow, wondering if she'd let Ajax get a word in. Apparently not, it seemed.
"Well, every Fire type starter, their shiny forms and Bagon and Beldum make twelve Pokémon! I'm sorry, but I just can't fit that amount of Pokémon in here. Still, Like you said, I'd be able to fit a Charmander, Torchic, Bagon and Beldum. Just... well, I'll see which one I have a shiny of. I can manage five or maybe six, though." he told her, nodding. He then moved over to the filing cabinet and began rifling through, searching for the requested Pokémon. Eventually, he came out with six Pokéballs and the book Nyx had asked for.
"Here's the book, and I managed to get all a Charmander, Torchic, Bagon, Beldum, shiny Torchic and shiny Bagon." he nodded, handing over the book. Telepa looked at Nyx and then very rudely remarked ~May I just say you have to be the most full of order ev-~ she began, but Pine had grabbed her beak in his hand. "Sorry, she had no manners." he apologized, turning red. The Noctowl dæmon fluttered her wings angrily as he handed over the book and released the Pokémon.
The Charmander blinked in surprise as it found itself on the lab floor in front of a trainer-to-be. Did that mean it might get chosen? The lizard padded up to Ajax, watching him curiously with a smile. The Torchic seemed pretty daring, pounding on the Bagon from behind. The two began to roll about in a play-fight. The Beldum simply hovered there in the air doing nothing and seeming quite creepy. The shiny Bagon looked very lazy, snapping up at the Beldum half-heartedly. The shiny Torchic seemed to be strong, but by the way it kept its distance to Ajax and showed off its shiny feathers, it wasn't friendly and was pretty selfish.

Ooc:// Yeah, I've got a Pokédex at home and the one for Enera, but Ajax and Nyx don't, so that's why she asked. XD; I do check it from time to time, though.
Ic:// ►Nyx's fur pricked uncomfortably at Pine and Telepa's reaction, knowing instantly she had asked for too much. It wasn't too hard to tell what those faintly skeptical expressions meant, and Telepa's stifled comment only cemented her suspicions. Still, it didn't really matter much what the Professor or his dæmon thought of them. What was really important was that they were as prepared as possible for the journey. And if I have to be a bit irritating to get it, then that's what I'll have to do, Nyx thought to herself, as she nodded to Telepa and murmered, "Thank you...and sorry for all the requests. I apologize if it's too much trouble." Opening the book, she began to flip through, her ears pricking with interest and her eyes gleaming. It was heavy and thick; the fact that Telepa had been able to fly with it without much trouble surprised her. However, that thought was quickly driven out of her mind as her gaze roamed the pages filled thick with information. Tails waving with interest she hunched closer to the book, allowing Ajax to see the released Pokémon in peace. «
►Ajax waited hesitantly, looking uneasy as Nyx spoke, and looking even more anxious as the Professor raised an eyebrow. ”Um…Thanks,” he muttered, curiously trying to avoid eye contact out of embarrassment then suddenly attempting to meet Telepa’s eyes in a gesture of defiance for his earlier comment. However, like Nyx he quickly became distracted by the Pokémon being released from their pokéballs. Kneeling down, he watched them attentively for a few moments, shifting his claw closer to his side so as not to frighten them. They’re…they’re so adorable, he thought, startled as the Charmander approached him curiously. Wow… Ajax began to observe each of them in turn. He wanted someone strong so he could get back to his Prince, someone that could grow fast. Subconsciously, he twitched to the side, as if to ask for Nyx’s help. She won’t know, though…she only knows as much about these guys as I do… « ►Even so, Nyx had already guessed what Ajax would question and had flipped to the pages in question, skimming the move lists and evolutions. ”As I suspected, they all grow to be quite powerful, in the end,” she said offhandedly. ”But Bagon and Beldum take a while to reach their final evolutions, which narrows us down to Charmander and the Torchics.” Flicking the platinum-blond tuft of hair at the top of her head, the Ninetales dæmon continued to look through the book, eyes practically glowing with excitement at the wealth of knowledge inside. « ► Ajax frowned and turned away, studying the Pokémon again. Something in him wanted to go over and reach out to the Charmander, but it looked hesitant and a little apprehensive about itself rather than powerful and rearing to go. He immediately liked the orange Torchic and Bagon; they seemed like a spirited pair, and he admired the way the Torchic had leapt onto the Bagon as soon as it had left it’s Pokéball. It would make a good fighter, certainly…even though it was only a chick. Nyx said it would grow, but how? Ajax couldn’t help but let out a sigh of frustration—this was surprisingly difficult! He had assumed that he would just pick an obvious best and go, but here he was, biding his time. Glancing at Nyx again, he found that she was thoroughly engrossed in the book. Shifting his weight nervously, he flapped his wings a little faster to calm himself down and snuck a peek at the shiny Bagon, the Beldum, and the shiny Torchic. He found himself averse to the Beldum—that thing was just unnerving—and the laxness that the shiny Bagon showed made him think the little hard-headed dragon wasn’t into battling at all. As for the shiny yellow Torchic, he liked the sense of independence and toughness it gave off, but wasn’t sure if he wanted someone too self-centered and unwilling to fight. It was just a chick too, anyway. Biting his cheek, he sighed again, thinking quietly to himself, Agh, I’m not good at this whole personality starter choosing analysis thing. Nyx is way better at this. Squeezing his gold-yellow eyes shut and reopening them, he concentrated on the Bagon, Torchic, and shiny Torchic. ”Nyx, what do Torchic and Bagon evolve into?” He wanted to be sure, after all, that they would help him get back home most quickly. « ► ”This dragon called Salamence here; and the Torchic becomes a Blazikin, which looks like this. They’re really quite formidable, from what I can see written in here.” Her thin paw skimmed over the scrawling and she flipped to another page, flicking her ears and apparently eager to read as much as possible before Ajax made his choice. Personally, she liked the shiny Torchic the most, even though it was unfriendly—she admired its gold feathers, knew it was confident in its power, and somewhat connected with its attitude. Still, she was careful not to let her preference show and continued flipping through the book in almost a feverish manner, drinking up the information. « ► Those final forms did look strong. Ajax looked up at Professor Pine, trying to search for a hint in the Professor’s face or his dæmon’s; then he looked back at Nyx. Her nonchalant expression hadn’t changed at all from before, but he usually tell something was off when she gave no outward appearance of it, and this was one of these times. And she really did know better what to do than he. ”Ah,” he said quietly, then straightened up, almost looking a little unhappy as he looked back at the Charmander and then the scuffling Torchic and Bagon. ”I’d like the shiny Torchic, please? I didn’t mean to make you wait for so long,” he said hastily, nodding his spiked head in a half-bow, subconsciously betraying his being accustomed to a formal setting. « [/blockquote]

Birdy//♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥Pine smiled as Ajax apologized. He didn't mind the trainer taking time to look through his various options, especially if that trainer didn't know much about Pokémon. The Professor nodded. "Shiny Torchic it is." he smiled. He didn't mind having to wait a little, it was often interesting to see how various people viewed various Pokémon. The relationship between Ajax and Nyx was interesting, too... anyway, a decision had been made. Pine would give Ajax his starter and the boy would be off on his journey.
Returning all five unchosen Pokémon to their Pokéballs, Pine then placed these back in the filing cabinet where they had come from. The professor the handed over the shiny Torchic's Pokéball, who seemed not to be too interested in Ajax for the moment. Telepa then left his shoulder again, the Noctowl dæmon returning with a drawstring bag of starter's items. Pine smiled to Telepa, then handed these items over to Ajax. "Right. You're all set; time to head out to Route One!" he beamed.

► "Yup...I guess that's it," he said a little more unhappily, glancing at the play-fighting Bagon and Torchic for one last time before they were returned to their Pokeballs. Then he squared his shoulders, shook himself visibly before smiling more confidently as he accepted the shiny Torchic's Pokeball, taking it gingerly between the two pincers of his claw and looking at it with a peculiar, mixed facial expression. He couldn't deny to himself that he was excited. It's true I like Pokemon a lot more than people...and this whole journey thing does kind of sound somewhat exciting,
he thought to himself, staring at the Pokeball for a few moments. This Torchic seems a little strange...I would have chosen the normal one...but Nyx always ends up being right, and I trust her. Tch, what am I doing? I've got to get back to Léon! Blinking to himself, he tucked away the package of items from Telepa into his travel bag in a startlingly efficient manner--one might suppose that was one of the skills his left hand ended up developing, what with his right limb being unable of doing any delicate tasks as he continued to ponder. Well, this was his first Pokemon, and he only had one shot at this journey, and he couldn't botch it. "Thanks for everything! Nyx, let's go!" he half-shouted with anticipation in farewell to Prof. Pine and Telepa as he left through the lab. « ► Nyx made no comment on Ajax's choice, but her blond fox-like muzzle dipped briefly and she closed her eyes in content acknowledgement. The others were good choices too, but that one will be an admired fighter in the end, no matter what it will take to get there. Reluctantly, she furiously flipped through the last few pages of the book, wishing she could keep it for the longrun. She had read a lot, yet there was just so much more. Shaking her head with amusement and a slight amount of regret, she closed the thick spine, opened her mouth wide, and carefully inched her teeth around the cover, carefully enough so the book wouldn't be damaged but holding it firmly enough that she lifted it to place on the nearby counter. "I give my thanks as well," she said quietly as she followed Ajax out of the lab. "The information book was incredibly helpful; I am grateful." Nodding to them one last time, her crimson eyes watching Telepa as she left, the flick of a cream-colored tail the last that Professor Pine and his dæmon would see of them for a while; if not forever. « [/blockquote]
