Everyone knew a trainer started young, however in Greg's case that wasn't the case. He and Elyna were starting rather late in life, still it had just happened that way. He'd never gotten around to taking a pokemon on his search for her family and no he finally was getting around it, so the old saying applied.
"Better late then never..." Greg whispered that mostly to himself, not that Elyna missed it. She nuzzled his leg and glanced up at him.
"Much better late then never, we could use the company hun." She nuzzled him again at that and smiled to herself, watching him a his hand came slowly to the lab door. He'd knock twice in a quick succession of double raps on the door, waiting outside to be let in. After all while it might be a lab, who was he to barge his way inside? So instead he'd wait in the gentle breeze, paying more attention to his surroundings and the almost dusk like lighting the clouds were causing today.

[justfy]Professor Pine heard the knock from somewhere within the rabbit warren of rooms and corridors, looking up startled as he heard the sudden noise during a delicate experiment. He looked at his work; he supposed the sort of thing he was doing at that moment didn't need to be done in a specific time, so he hurried off to answer the door; he knew it would either be a new trainer or a man/woman delivering some new equipment. Either would be great. The professor swung the door open with a warm welcoming smile on his face, looking at Greg. At first he thought the young man was the delivery person, but then he saw his expression and the lack of vehicle.
So, this was a new trainer. The Noctowl daemon on his shoulder hooted, both in greeting and mild amusement. Pine just kept his welcoming smile on. "Hello, my name is Professor Pine, and my daemon is Telepa. Please come on in." he told Greg, stepping into the first room and gesturing for his visitor to do the same. The room they were in then was the only one most new trainers ever saw, at least on their first visit anyway. There was a lot of space for the trainers to see the Pokemon they were thinking of choosing, a few tables covered in Pokemon books, some squashy sofas and a filing cabinet next to Pine's desk. He sat on this desk, looking at Greg. "So, what Pokemon would you like?" he asked.

His eyes being drawn to the Professor as the door opened, Greg looked to the man and Elyna's gaze followed soon after. His lips turning slightly into a nervous smile as he followed the Professor inside, Elyna moving slightly closer to him as they entered and closed the door behind them. Unable to think for a moment he offered his own name and his daemon's. "Hello Professor, my name is Greg Reyes and this is my daemon Elyna." As he said that he let his hand stroke her out of place ear, before considering both man and daemon for a moment. Then his eyes flickered for a moment to their surroundings drinking it all in, now drawing himself together he spoke once more.
"Well Professor I was wondering what you might have in the way of fire, ghost or ice maybe even dark pokemon. I mean if that's not too much hassle, I have some ideas of what pokemon I'd like but I'd rather be general and go with the one whose personality attracts Elyna and I the most." Even as he spoke Greg moved into the room a little more, considering the lighting for a moment as he pondered having a photo taken on timer once he'd chosen his starter.

Birdy//♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥Professor Pine nodded. So, it seemed this boy had given little or no thought into what starter he wanted. He didn't show it, but he was always extremely annoyed by this. After all, he'd have thought it obvious that when heading off to get a Pokémon you'd at least think about what Pokémon you liked. Telepa, being more rude than her human, gave a quiet yet angry hoot, earning herself a warning glance from Pine. The Professor moved over to the filing cabinet, looking through the drawers marked with the various types.
He looked back at Greg after a little while of searching. "We don't have too many Pokémon right now, but the only Fire, Ghost, Ice and Dark types we currently have are Vulpix, Ponyta, Gastly, Murkrow, Misdreavus, Sneasel, Swinub, Delibird, Houndour, Poochyena, Staybleye, Mawile, Slugma, Carvanha, Numel, Torkoal, Shuppet, Duskull, Snorunt, Drifloon, Stunky, Snover, Flarepup and Dookbi. If you don't know what any of those, are, you can always look them up in one of those books," he waved a hand at the scattering of Pokémon books on the table, "When you've decided on a few based on movesets, appearance, evolutions, or whatever, tell me which ones you'd like me to show you and you can pick from those. I can show you about five or six maximun." he smiled, wondering which Pokémon Greg would end up choosing.

Letting the pokemon names roll over him Greg only hesitated for a moment before replying, his favoured pokemon coming to the fore as he named the first five to cross his mind from that list. "Well there's a few I know I like that you have, so those would be a nice point to start." He smiled sheepishly then, while it might appear he hadn't given a starter any choice he was in fact weighing up what he'd seen on his travels and inwardly torn over his choice. Still he continued speaking.
"So could I possibly see Gastly, Misdreavus, Houndour, Duskull and...." He paused for a moment then to consider his last choice before deciding to on the last. "Vulpix?" Some of the others had caught his attention but he was limited here so he went with those he knew he thought more suited to him as a starter. Still he let a faint smile settle on his lips as he looked to the Professor and Telepa, his daemon peering at them as well although she was doing so from under a preening paw. After all this was for her trainer to decide, although her little heart did feel a momentary pang when he didn't say an ice pokemon.

Birdy//♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥The Professor smiled, relieved that things had gone a little quicker than he'd thought. So, Greg had some idea, after all. "Righto, then! I'll go get them!" he said brightly, moving over to the filing cabinet again and easily selecting the five Pokéballs from it. He pressed the button on each, releasing the chosen Pokémon for Greg to see. His dæmon watched, a little nervous as she wasn't sure about whether or not the Pokémon would behave themselves.
Gastly, Misdreavus and Duskull instantly got mischeavous looks on their faces, moving together and muttering about some prank they could do together. They didn't have very good teamworking skills; they get on tricking each other. It seemed that they weren't too friendly, and a fight looked ready to break out. Luckily, Houndour noticed and snapped at them, breaking them up. It seemed like the policing sort who kept peace and order. He earned himself a glare from Misdreavus, whom the more cowardly Gastly was hiding behind, while the more daring Duskull made a charge for him. He stood his ground, the brave sort. Vulpix watched all this from Greg's side, a little timid and nervous but having taken a liking to the boy and being ready to protect him if need be.

Greg eyed the ghostly trio, considering for a moment that perhaps even though he did like them all he should have asked to see them separately still it was done now. So in his mind he ruled them out instantly, while mischief wasn't anything he minded he did mind the fact that they couldn't even work together over that. Instead his eyes turned to the Houndoor and the Vulpix, considering them both. The houndour was brave and it had authority, something he could appreciate. While on the other hand the Vulpix seemed to be content near him, she hadn't done much or really stuck out. But she had come to him so that said something, so he'd kneel down near the Vulpix and look to the professor before speaking.
"I think the terrible trio just ruled themselves out, I need team players and they just proved not to be that. As for these two well it seems its between them." As he said that he nodded towards the Houndour and stretched a hand towards the Vulpix. Although he'd find himself beaten to greeting her by Elyna, who was already sniffing at her from around Greg's body. Like him she'd already narrowed it down to the fire types, based solely off the initial behaviour of the ghosts.
Still he had to decide between the pair he'd swiftly narrowed it down to and based solely on first impressions it was fairly torn. After all one seemed to have taken to him, although it did seem a little shy and timid. The other was appealing due to it's talent at reacting quickly to keep control and it did seem to be rather brave. Still considering them both he bit his lower lip softly as he weighed the pair up, trying to decide when both had something going for them,

Birdy//♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥Professor Pine watched as Greg looked over the three ghosts, deciding against choosing them. His dæmon shuffled her wings; they could see that Greg was the sort of person who would do better with a friendly, good natured Pokémon, rather than a mischeavous Pokémon who was a little afraid of facing things by themselves. Pine could see that he was now having difficulty choosing between Vulpix and Houndour. "I'd take a look at the Pokémon's movesets, evolutions, and whatnot, if I were you. There's some books on the table; feel free to use them." he waved a hand at a scattering of informational books.
Houndour padded towards Greg with a very confident walk, and Vulpix took a few steps towards it, sniffing it curiously and a littly shyly. The Houndour smiled, nuzzling the fox in greeting before sitting down and looking at Greg, tail swishing from side to side lazily. Vulpix jumped as Pine returned Misdreavus, Gastly and Duskull to their Pokéballs, then moved closer to Greg again, letting out a soft whine as it did so.
