A light rain drizzled down from the cloudy sky, no breeze as well on top of it thankfully though. The ground was slightly muddy and the damp air could be refreshing to some and downright miserable to others.
A human, just a random normal human, was walking down the path towards the Lab. Carrying a simple Parasol to keep the water off of her and her closely following Absol Daemon. The rain not bothering them one tiny bit, in fact they were loving it. Keeping their silent yet comfortable companionship with each other as they reach the door.
Placing the handle of the Parasol in the crook of her neck, she reaches up one hand to give a rather loud knock on the door. Her other hand dives into her bag to pull out a piece of paper and a pencil, ready to give a note when the door opens for it to be read.
The note reads:
Hello, my name is Miana Yanagi. I cannot hear for I am deaf, but I can read lips and write to communicate.
With communication in hand ready for whomever opens the door she takes a deep breathe ready to start her new life.

As Miana came walking to the door, Professor Pine napped in his chair, one arm flung above his head as his chest rose and fell softly, giving light snores every so often. Telepa sat in his lap, and while she wasn’t completely asleep, she was drowsing peacefully content. The light rain pitter-pattered on the Lab window, creating a relaxing effect, and she opened one eye sleepily as she thought she heard the footsteps of someone walking up the path. Ignoring it, she closed her eyes again, head turning to the side ever so slightly as she relaxed her muscles. Suddenly came a loud rapping noise, and she flapped her wings with surprise, hooting, ~Pine, I think someone’s at the door!~
For once, the Professor had noticed as quickly as his dæmon. ”Yes, I think I heard the knock, too.” Stretching, he yawned and called, ”I’ll be right there!” as he looked around for his glasses, finding them and jamming them on his nose. ”Goodness,” he remarked to Telepa. ”Another new Trainer! Who do you think they’ll choose?” Struggling out of the comfy chair, he made his way to the front door, spilling a pile of papers that hung off a nearby bookshelf in his haste. Telepa chuckled, swooping down to help him pick them up, using her talons to grab sheets of paper. Pine grinned, squatting down as well. ”Well, I guess Dark or Water type.”
~Then I guess Fire or Psychic,~ Telepa replied. ~I’ll open the door for them; it’s raining so we really shouldn’t let them wait any longer.~ Soaring over to the door, she turned the knob, peering out at the girl and her dæmon. ~Hello and welcome to Pine Labs! The Prof. is just cleaning up some documents he spilled back there.~ She opened the door wider, gesturing the human and the Absol inside. ~Come inside, it must be wet even with that parasol. What Pokemon would yo—~ she had spotted the sign on the door, reading it and clicking her beak in surprise. ~Well, that’s no problem, but I guess it’ll be harder to read beaks rather than mouths,~ she remarked to the girl’s dæmon, hoping he would be able to communicate to his human what she had just said. ~Pine! Get over here! She’ll be able to talk with you much better than with me. Apologies,~ she added to Miana and her dæmon.

((oops hehehe, she was holding up the note to show for someone to read not taped to the door oh well its okay))
Since she was deaf she didn't hear the random sounds as they crashed and pushed things to the floors. Just standing outside taking a quick glance around as she waited. She guessed someone probably yelled they were coming but she of course never heard it so she just stayed.
Her Daemon on the other hand perks up his ears and tilts his head with a curious sort of look. Rather confused a bit by the sounds inside the place before moving forward to sniff around the door..
When Telepa does open the door and tries to speak to Miana she gives a little apologetic smile. The Noctowl Daemon was completely correct in thinking she couldn't read beaks only human. Though she did know an invitation inside when she saw one. Eeno runs in first ahead of her after shaking off any of the water and mud that stuck to him, going further in once he is relatively cleaner. Miana lowers her parasol as she walks in behind him, shaking it out before closing it and getting out of the way for the closed door.
Looking over she sees Pine busily picking stuff up, placing the note in her bag and taking off her muddy shoes before walking over and helping him. Making sure she had the piece of paper ready and kept an eye on his lips for when he would speak.

Hastily scooping up the rest of the papers, Professor Pine lay them down on the counter in a haphazard fashion. Yes, they would require sorting later, but the new Trainer would have to come first! Walking towards her, he smiled, looking a little surprised as Telepa explained, ~She says—or rather, she wrote—that she’s deaf, but she can lip-read, and I’m not sure if she can beak-read.~ Pine nodded, then turned to Eeno and Miana, enunciating his words more carefully than he would have. She might not be able to hear them, but at least she might be able to have an easier time lip-reading him, although he didn’t overstrain too much as he doubted that she wanted to be patronized. After all, by being here she was clearly embarking on a Pokemon journey, which required independence and self-sufficiency. Even so, he hoped he might be able to make things easier for her.
”Well, I’ve got to apologize for my late arrival to the door, but welcome to Pine Labs! My name is Professor Pine, and the dæmon who greeted you happens to be called Telepa.” the Professor said cheerily, closing the door behind Miana so as not to let the rain in. ”Now’s the big question—what Pokemon would you like as your starter?” He knew most people didn’t often know when he asked, but it was always good to inquire first anyway, just in case someone had a definitive idea of what they wanted. ”If you’re not sure, I have a picture book you could look through if you liked, or if you want, say, dog-like Pokemon or Water-types, I could show you photos of a few and tell you about them,” Pine offered as Telepa settled on her typical resting place at his shoulder.

Now that they had the papers picked up and slightly put away, he didn't really do much except place them elsewhere before turning to her. Inwardly grimacing as he tries to help her understand his words easier, she hated it when people did that because it was even harder for her to understand. But she doesn't say anything, and only listens as he speaks to her with his greetings. She nods her head over at Telepa and then back at the Professor before he went on to ask his question. What type of starter? didn't he have just a lineup she could pick from? well this was interesting... maybe she could get one she actually would want.
Quickly she starts writing down on a piece of paper before she holds it up for him to read.
Well I like too many Pokemon to really choose from all that I can, but anything with fur? especially long thick fur? and hopefully female? I want to become a famous Breeder so females would work better and I like to brush the fur.

Hmm…female and with long fur, and she wanted to become a Breeder, so the rarer the better. He thought to himself. Most of the early evolutions didn’t have the thick fur that the girl seemed to want, but there were plenty evolutions that fit her description. The first he could think of was Ninetales, but Rapidash also met the standards quite well, what with its long and fiery mane, and Furret, although it was rather common and as a Breeder she might not want that to be her starter. Of course, many other Pokemon fit the description as well. Smiling, the Professor nodded, ”I’ll see what I can do,” before walking behind the bookshelf and gathering the Pokeballs of the Pokemon he thought Miana might like. Upon arriving back in the front area, he said, ”See what you think of these,” and released the Pokemon inside.
As the Pokemon appeared in bursts of red light, the first thing one might notice about them was that quite a few in this batch (specifically, Vulpix, Ponyta, Meowth, Shinx and Skitty) had fur that shimmered, giving off a sheen that almost could be seen as a sparkle in the right light. Pine had chosen shiny Pokemon for the more common ones he offered to Miana, since he reasoned that as a breeder, she might want a rarer Pokemon to start with. ”I know that many of these Pokemon are shiny, but if you want the normal version of one that tickles your fancy, I can go see what I have,” he offered, trying to be helpful. After all, she was making the decision of the lifetime.
The first Pokemon, a Vulpix, seemed cool, elegant, and refined, shaking her glimmering tails and licking her paws as she regarded Miana with intelligent eyes. The Growlithe quickly bounded over to her, nudging the Vulpix with her head and barking happily before bounding over to Miana, giving the Trainer a quick look-over and another friendly bark. Tossing her head, the Ponyta seemed quite sure of herself as she trotted closer to Miana, stretching her neck so as to snort quietly in the human’s direction, her fiery blue mane flowing behind her as she did so. The Meowth appeared to be playful but a big aggressive; she jumped on the Ponyta’s tail and climbed up onto the fire-horse’s back, causing the Ponyta to whip around with alarm, nostrils flaring. Meanwhile, the Skitty sat on the floor, tucking her tail around herself and purring, looking fairly adorable. The Shinx seemed uninterested in Miana and Eeno, giving them a glance before wandering over to sniff at the various lab instruments that lined the shelves on the walls. Finally, the Absol, standing over all the other Pokemon except Ponyta, watched Miana warily although she gave a respectful nod to Eeno. She seemed to fancy herself protector of the other Pokemon, an idea that could only be reinforced when the timid Cyndaquil scurried behind one of the Absol’s legs, clinging to it and watching Miana nervously.

((awwww all I want too.... *looks at her wishlist* dang this is gonna be hard to choose))
Miana's eyes just go wide at the variety that popped out of the Pokeballs. Watching all the different personalities both friendly and shy, she slowly walks forward as if in a daze at so many that she would dream of having. It was going to be such a hard time choosing she knew that but she would have to narrow down her decision to one. Even though she wanted to take them all.
Eeno watched Miana just go gaga over them, her eyes sparkling and her face lighting up at all of them. Turning towards the Pokemon he follows his human closely as he speaks. ~"Okay everyone, just so you are aware of it Miana, this human female here, is deaf. She cannot hear any sound at all so please try to not sneak up on her. She tends to freak out when that happens."~
Miana on the other hand looks over at the Meowth, frowning a little bit as it was clear the Ponyta wasn't very happy with the feline Pokemon on its back. Reaching over she tries to take it carefully off the back then put it down before walking in front of the Ponyta. Gently she raises her hand up to try to calm down the fire Pokemon by patting the bridge of its nose like one would a horse. Her eyes were still looking all around trying to figure out however would she decide to just choose one, looking a little overwhelmed at that hovering decision but happy seeing so many.

Ooc:// ^_^ I actually went to your wishlist to see what kind of Pokemon you’d like so you could pick between personalities, though I added a few others at well.
Telepa kept in a smile to herself as she saw the reaction of the deaf Trainer, happy that Miana herself was so joyful just at the sight of the Pokemon. It was great that she became excited around them—that was always a good omen for a good journey. Looking over the group with a sharp eye, she found the need to hoot out a warning to the Shiny Shinx, who had been about to climb the bookshelf. The Shinx turned around, making a face at Telepa before trotting over to a potted plant, sniffing it curiously and then reaching out one, butterscotch-colored paw to tear off a leaf. The only indication she gave of Eeno’s words was a twitch of the ear, and then she continued ignoring everyone. The Meowth, a little angry that Miana had taken her off of Ponyta’s back, hissed and then scampered over to pounce on Shinx, although she looked back at Miana and flashed a grin which clearly stated that all was forgiven.
As this was happening, the shiny Ponyta at first shied away from Miana, watching her cautiously and reproachfully for a few moments before finally consenting to let the human touch the bridge of her nose, nodding slowly as she heard Eeno. Vulpix stepped closer and nodded as well, arching her back as she yawned and continued to watch, interested by sophisticated, from a distance, tucking her various gleaming tails around herself as she sat. The Growlithe barked again, trying to get Miana’s attention, but when she heard Eeno declare that Miana was deaf she instead dashed to her feet, plopping down practically on top of them and then rolling onto her back, showing her belly and clearly hoping for a pat or two. Last but not least, the Cyndaquil managed to take a few steps away from Absol’s legs, quivering and ready to flee as she hesitantly watched Miana, Eeno, and the other Pokmeon. Absol did nothing but watch, grunting quietly in acknowledgment of Miana’s inability to hear. At first she had growled as Miana had reached out to Ponyta, but she also saw that the Trainer was euphoric to see all the Pokemon and had no ill-intentions, so she relaxed again, definitely wary and rather untrusting but strong.

((OOC: .... this gonna be a long thread because I can't decide between vulpix, ponyta, growlithe... and absol HAHAHA))
A little grin spread across her face after the Meowth hissed at her and ran off only to grin back at her. Looking back at the Ponyta she only patted her nose a few times trying to reassure her when she felt the weight of Growlithe on her feet. Looking down seeing her belly up waiting for loves, making Miana crouch down and gently scratched her on her tummy to give her just what she wanted with a soft giggle.
Glancing up though as her fingers run through the Pokemon's fur she looks over at the Absol and Cyndaquil. Giving a smile and a nod of her head before sweeping her gaze over towards the Vulpix. At least she was able to narrow it down a little bit in her mind which ones she wanted. But wanting four of them wasn't narrowed down far enough.
Standing up after she gave the Growlithe a soft pat, she slowly walks over to the Vulpix. Crouching down again before she held out her hand for the Pokemon to sniff her and allow her to pet her or not.

Growlithe growled with pleasure as Miana stroked her belly, wiggling her legs to show the girl how good it felt. The hard lab floor on her back didn’t matter, as long as the delightful human kept rubbing her belly. When Miana stood up to inquire to Vulpix, she whined a little, leaping to her feet and padding by Miana’s side, looking up at Eeno and barking at him cheerfully. Ponyta, on the other hand, enjoyed the pats but stayed where she was, simply watching as Miana walked away, her eyes a little regretful but a tad too nervous to walk with her as Growlithe was. Her thick, fiery blue mane and tail signaled that she would be a good fighter, but she’d need to get over her wariness first. At least she was curious. In the corner, Meowth and Shinx circled the potted plant, now completely losing interest in Miana. Sensing that she wasn’t going to choose them either, Pine returned them to their Pokeballs, if only to clear the crowded floor a tad.
After some time, Absol had decided the Miana wasn’t a threat. She lay down and began licking her fur, drawing a pink tongue over silky white, her horn intimidating the Cyndaquil, who scampered back behind Absol once more, definitely preferring the back to the front. The Absol didn’t seem to notice, continuing to clean herself although she kept one eye on Miana. Vulpix sat silently but when Miana approached her she stared right into the human’s eyes with keen interest, gingerly leaning forward to sniff the human’s hand a couple of times before giving it a swift lick, then backing up a little. She seemed a tad affectionate towards the human, but wasn’t really on patting terms. Pine wondered idly who Miana would pick—as a breeder, he’d provided the shinies since he knew that as a breeder it was good to start with rarer Pokemon. However, Absol were often sought after, along with Cyndaquil, and the lovable charm of the Growlithe had apparently captured Miana’s attention, even if the dog pokemon wasn’t a shiny.
Ooc:// XD; Want me to bump a couple off and help you a bit? I already did so for Shinx and Meowth.

((OOC: If I bought a Growlithe I can choose its personality hopefully like this ones? and sure now just between ponyta and vulpix))
Miana looked over at the Absol and Cyndaquil again with a slight thoughtful look on her face. Then she shakes her head, no they needed each other right now and would be best with other people possibly coordinators or someone who could hear and help them with what they would need. Besides her Daemon was an Absol anyways in form, so maybe that would be more helpful to get one out in the wild.
She turned her gaze back to the Ponyta and then to the Vulpix and back again. Her hand reaching out to gently pet and scratch the Growlithe to help calm her as she looked at them both. She had narrowed her choices down to those two now. She would love the Growlithe too... but she could easily get a great person if stayed though she loved her personality.

Ooc:// I think so, but I’m not completely sure because no one’s bought a Pokemon yet.
Cyndaquil looked far too nervous to have a say about Miana’s decision, and Absol simply closed her eyes and nodded slightly, clearly uncaring either way. She gently picked up Cyndaquil by the scruff and carried the little fire-type towards Pine who obligingly put Cyndaquil back into her Pokeball. Absol tipped her head to Eeno, then gracefully leapt into the air, turning bright red and then being retreated as Pine called her back as well. Absol had already decided that Miana was safe, so she had no qualms with leaving her alone with Ponyta, Growlithe, and Vulpix.
It would now be a choice between the three fire-types left; the adorable, fun-loving Growlithe, the refined Vulpix, or the prideful Ponyta? Now that the Ponyta had gotten a bit more time to get adjusted, she seemed back to her more confident self that she had been when she first approached Miana, snorting a little and leaning her head over Miana’s shoulder to watch Vulpix, who had padded to a place in the sun and was basking there, although she watched Miana and Eeno’s every move. Growlithe, on the other hand, ran circles around all the Pokemon, nuzzling up to Miana’s hand every now and then and then continuing to bark and bound around.

Miana seemed locked in a desperate debate that was raging inside her head, which made her bite her bottom lip in concentration. The Vulpix was very refined, she noticed as the Pokemon had went over to the sun to lounge in the rays. She jumped a little bit when the Ponyta moved her head over her shoulder, but placed a hand on her shoulder as she took a few breathes to calm down before she looked up at the fire horse.
Suddenly it clicked in her mind, and she knew which one she wanted. She stood up and walked over to the Vulpix, patting the little pokemon on the head before she walked back towards the Ponyta and Growlithe. She also patted the Growlithe on the head, hoping that maybe one day she would hopefully see her again and who knows what would happen.
She then turned towards the Ponyta, giving a nod as she reached her hand towards the Pokeman with her palm towards her as if she were going to pat her on the head again. Her hand stopped a few inches away as if asking if it was okay.
Eeno stretched a little bit as he realized she had finally chosen, wishing the Vulpix and Growlithe good luck. Then he turned his attention to the Ponyta ~"It looks like she has chosen you, if you wish to come with."~

The Ponyta backed up a little, then accepted Miana’s pat and nosed her hand, snorting into it and blinking her eyes softly. Telepa hooted with amusement, briefly forgetting that Miana couldn’t hear: ~Looks like it’s a yes, then.~ Pine was pleased as well—another Trainer united with another Pokemon, and it looked like Miana had been quite careful about her decision, so the relationship was bound to be good. He called back Growlithe and Vulpix, dashing around hastily to get everything in order as he put back their Pokeballs and put together the sack of items that he provided all people starting out on their journey with. Finally, Ponyta, her hooves clopping on the hard tile lab floor, moved a little ways from Miana so she could be put back into her Pokeball.
The Professor, passed the sturdy bag full of items as well as the Pokeball with Ponyta inside to Miana. ”Good luck!” he wished her with a smile. Having been so cautious while choosing her starter, Pine was sure she’d make a great breeder, even if she had to fight against her disability. ”May your journey be a good one,” he said cheerfully as he opened the door to the lab. The earlier rain had stopped, and while the grass was moist and damp, the sun shone through the door, illuminating the compound outside as well as Route One beyond it, where Miana would begin her travels.

Miana nodded her head towards Telepa and Pines as she took the items and Pokeball given her. Putting them in their respective places in her bags she then picked up her Parasol. Heading out of the door and continued on her journey after she had waved a goodbye.
