complained Tamesis, the Beavern looking a little annoyed. "I know. Agility's important, too." Connor pointed out. The three Pokémon nodded, then lined up alongside each other. Connor counted to three, then on three they each sprang, setting off at a sprint for the marked out tree. They all started at the same time, but since Pokémon have very different stats they all had different paces and speeds.A boy walked into Tsuasa's training areas, carrying a Sneasel. The Sneasel wriggled free once they were inside the outdoors like area, dropping to the ground and blinking with the heavy landing before making his way over to the albino's other two Pokémon, a Gible and a Beavern. The Gible was bouncing on his feet, itching to start training. He was the sort who enjoyed fighting of all kinds, and this training would be brilliant, in his opinion. The Beavern was happy to be training, too, since they had very restricted lives since Connor's 'Mother', as he called the Boss, wanted to keep them a secret from everyone. She had agreed to let them train, of course; up until then it had just been Connor she was training, so he was pleased that his Pokémon could have a go too.
Connor smiled, looking around at his Pokémon while grinning before Vivime spoke. {Let me guess... you don't know how, do you?} Connor looked a little sheepish at that. "Well, er, aah, erm, aha... no." he admitted, looking down and scratching an arm with a ghostly white hand. Vivime rolled her eyes. {Well, perhaps you ought to get used to your Pokémon's abilities? That might be a start.} she suggested. Connor looked up again, nodding. He let out his tail, and let his wings loosen a little, feeling more comfortable with his tail out and wings not completely clamped to his back. He looked between each of his Pokémon. "Right. Firstly... speed? Yes, why not. How about a little race? To that tree and back." he said, pointing.
~But there's loads of plants in the way!~
Ashri smiled to his teammates before they set off. The Sneasel, being still quite young, was expecting to not do too well in the race or anything else Connor thought up, since being not yet fully grown he wasn't as strong as a normal Sneasel of his level. Still, as they raced throught the bushes, the little Pokemon smiled, seeing he was actually in the lead. Finally, something he could do best! His legs flew him speedily across the ground, letting himself go to his instincts as he ran. His instincts quickly make him duck, jump or move to the sides as the branches were coming with ease. He was finding this awfully easy, and loved the feeling of the wind rushing over his face and through his fur. He reached the tree and turned back, recieving a supportive grin from Tamesis and a glare from Ares as he passed them. He reached Connor again and beamed, heart soaring as he knew that at last he'd found something hecwas good at.
Ares had a bit of a different attitude to the race. Being quite a self confident Pokemon, he thought he would beat the slow Beavern and the baby Sneasel easily, since he often won however between him and Tamesis, and Ashri was just too easy. However, as he started running and Ashri shot ahead, he came back to reality and remembered that Gible evolved to become very fast, but in their current state were no faster than a Beavern and that Sneasels had incredibly high speed stats. Oops. He kept running, about a head behind Tamesis. Then they hit the bushes. Beavern were quite rotund Pokemon, meaning that on the land they weren't too agile. Ares managed to overtake Tamesis as she struggled through, when nearily the end seeing Ashri nod to him. He glared back- how dare the little tyke beat him? He reached the tree and sprinted back as fast as he could, feeling a few of the branches whip his skin. He stopped, panting, when he arrived back at Connor, seeing Tamesis come in a few seconds after him. Oh well, at least he'd beaten someone.
Tamesis, on the other hand, didn't really care too much about which place she came. The Beavern knew she wasn't very fast, and so was simply in it for the fun. She found herself running alonside Ares for the first little bit, but was put off by the bushes. Her rotund body was built for water, not being agile on land, so she fell behind a lot there. Still, it was nice to be able to just run flat out without a care for once. She smiled, liking the feeling of the wind in her fuzz and the world moving past her. She reached the tree, skidding as she turned to run back again. She reached Connor last, Ares giving her a smug look. She raised an eyebrow then rolled her eyes. He was so competative.
"Now, I can see that although Ashri's quite fast, even he needs some practice. With training you'll learn techniques and things to help." Connor told his Pokémon, hand adjusting his hat slightly. Tamesis was both excited and curious as to what exactly they would be doing to help this, nudging her trainer gently. ~What are we gonna do about that, then?~ she asked.
Oh... that was a good question. Connor frowned as he thought about that one. Then he snapped his fingers. "Aha! I've got it! You are going to weave in and out of sticks!" he nodded, grabbing a bunch and sticking them into the ground. Noticing the sceptical look he was getting from Ares, he explained a little more. "Just to help with agility and speed while not hitting... stuff." the Gible nodded gently, but seemed far from convinced.
Connor nodded silently to Ashri, indicating to her that he should have a go. The Sneasel was glad to, setting off as fast as he could for the sticks. He moved as quickly as he had with the race earlier, zipping inand out of them easily. Almost- he misjudged the last one and it smacked him in the face, making Tamesis wince sympathetically and Ares do a face-palm. Ashri blinked for a moment, then sniffed, tears rolling down his cheeks. Connor knew he was young, so called out to him, "Ashri, are you all right? Don't worry, try again and it'll be better, OK?" he said. The Sneasel nodded, running at the sticks again. This time, he was extra careful not to have the nasty pain again, but that slowed him down. "Faster, Ashri! No need to be scared; your instincts will help!" Connor called. The Pokémon still didn't want to do it, but sped up, fear giving him butterflies.
When he was finished, he let out a deep sigh of relief. Phew, thank goodness that was over! That had been very scary for the little Pokémon, and he was relieved to have that out the way. He gave the sticks a determined look, then weaved in and out of them again, smiling proudly. He was getting good at that, and he was pleased about it. Tamesis moved forward; she wanted a turn! The Beavern was a little jealous of Ashri's speed, and tried to be faster than him. She failed quite miserably, ending up overbalancing and rolling into about three sticks. She got back on her feet, though, running through them slower so she could avoid hitting anything. She was pretty bad at it, but she managed it before sighing, slumping down and shaking her head. She could do it, but wasn't very good at all.
Ares grinned; his turn next! The Gible was a show-off and wanted to show that he was better than all the others. The little dragon ran right at the sticks, dodging the first. He swerved to one side of the second, too! At the third, he found the turn too hard at his current speed, and trying to twist around didn't work so he ended up falling over. Snarling in anger, he continued, falling over twice before he decided that despite his massive ego it would be better to run slowly than fall. He sped up after just one sucessful run, speeding up too much and falling again. He was growing even more angry now, slowing down more until he sped up again, just by less this time. To his surprise and pleasure, it worked. He got faster again, as fast as he dared before he turned back to his trainer.
"Yeah, that's enough of speed practice. I think maybe we should spent the rest of the training session doing some fighting." Connor said. Ashri looked scared at this; he was very fast but a Pokémon so young wasn't very strong, and Ares was pretty terrifying. Tamesis grinned, excited to be trying something new. Ares looked very smug indeed. He had hated the speed and agility, since he was no good at that, but his kind were well known for being powerful and defensive, so he should do well at this part of the training. "Ashri, Ice Shard on Ares! Ares, Tackle on Tamesis! Tamesis, Scratch on Ashri!"
