Sands of Time

Rima looked out onto the vast, empty desert that she now found herself amiss in. A desert. Rima had never been to a desert before. She was a water-loving person, and a desert being a place that rarely hosted water, she had never encountered one - thus her journey through Route 3 would be more difficult compared to some. Her hair dangling down in the tense, hot atmosphere she stared down at the badge she ahd newly obtained. She'd done it. She defeated Elika with thanks to Kei and Arwan, the only male members of her team. She then nodded and put the badge away as she looked at Pichu who was asleep on her head. She gave a quiet laugh as she spoke to her daemon,
"The poor little guy must be tuckered out."
Ven looked up at Rima, exhausted. He was a water type. Being a water type he generally needed water and the harsh sunlight was evaportaing the moisture in the air which was not agreeing with Ven the Vaporeon daemon. Of all the places to wind up in, they wind up in a desert! Now thanks to this, Ven wasn't in the best of moods and he wanted to get out as soon as he could with the littlest of hastle. He began to pant as he looked up at Rima angrily,
"Yes well, let's quit the chat and move it!"Rima looked down at Ven in shock. He had never spoken to her like that before but that was probably because they had never been to a desert before. Rima stared down at him and said innocently,
"I take it you don't like the desert then Ven. Fine then we'll get going but don't be such a grouch alright? Besides you're a water type, therefore you can make water whenever you want to - don't forget that fact[/b]."
Rima then laughed to herself and started to happily walk along the sand in the scorhign sunlight, careful to not step on anything that might not be too happy to be stepped on. Ven suddenly felt extremely stupid and stared after his human in shock at himself. He then created a small ring around himself with an Aqua Ring and he felt slightly revived, before he ran after his human as they started their quest along the sandy strip of space.[/font]

Up ahead, there seemed to be a mound of sand about two and a half feet in height. Then it moved. OK, maybe it wasn't a mound. As Rima grew closer, a mouth opened wide, the Pokémon yawning to make itself look threatening. It could be identified as a Hippopotas. The hippo blinked as it saw the girl, rolling over in the sand happily. Then it noticed Ven, and took a few steps back. ~Water! Oh, Arceus, no! This, I fear, is the end of Hippopotas! Farewell, my friends, and let this be a lesson to you!~

[/color] he cried, lying on his back and letting his tongue loll out.

The hippo then opened one eye, getting back to his feet. ~Oh, I'm not dead. Awkward!~[/color] he said, still friendly, before suddenly acting much more hostile. ~Ha! Turn thee, Benvolio, and look upon thy death!~[/color] he snarled angrily, offensive all of a sudden. It seemed Rima had stumbled upon a Pokémon with multiple personalities- both opposites of each other. He blinked, looking sad. ~Sorry, sorry! I think there's something wrong with my head... there always had been.~[/color] he frowned gloomily, looking at the ground with a glum face.

Rima stopped and stared when she saw the ground type Pokemon rise from the sands. A little confused she stared at him and listened intently. As the Hippopotas switched from one personality to another, though Rima noticed more from his actions than his words (for obvious reasons), she couldn't help but laugh. This Pokemon was so cute and seemed to have a very intersting and humourous personality that Rima couldn't help herself. Ven caught up and, actually hearing what the Pokemon had to say, held a different opinion on the matter. He stared at him in shock and disbelief that such a Pokemon existed - the actions of the hippo Pokemon making him speechless. When the Hippopotas had finally finished his long, confusing, mixed speech Ven said accusingly,
"I think there certainly is something wrong with your head. Do you need to see a Nurse?"
Rima looked down at her daemon and frowned, Ven staring up in innocence and shock at Rima's reaction was once again rendered speechless. Rima turned to Hippopotas as she bent down and said with a happy smile,
"I'm sure he's just a little striken by the heat, maybe we could cool him down a bit, or make him forget about the Sun?"
Rima reached for a Pokeball and released the Pokemon inside. A small Piplup appeared from the Pokeball, she looked a little timid and reserved and she put her flightless wings together as she wiggled in embarassment. Rima looked out to her Piplup and smiled sweetly,
"This here's Rae, she's very shy - but she'll be glad to help you if you're feeling overwhelmed by the heat. Right, Rae?"
The Piplup was shocked when her trained called for her and she nodded vigourously, always ready to help her trainer.

Hippopotas didn't have the reaction Rima had been expecting. When he heard the talking and saw the Piplup, he squeaked in fear. The hippo was quite scared of the idea of being cooled down with water from the Pokémon. He took a few steps back. ~No, that's really not necessary... see, we Hippopotas are local to the desert, so I'm well adapted to the heat. We prefer sand to cool off; as a Ground type, water is kinda painful. Check it on your Pokédex, it'll tell you that we hate getting wet!~

[/color] he explained hurriedly.

He then glanced up at the sky, which was a perfect cloudless deep blue, the sun large and bright. He sighed. ~But the summer's come so suddenly... ah, well you've stopped on your way to the Second Gym just for me, I'll let you help. I am pretty thirsty. The summer's made it a lot hotter, so maybe a drink'd help, so long as I don't get drenched...~[/color] he admitted, opening his mouth wide for Rae to spray. He trusted this trainer, and didn't want to overheat- it had been messing with his head and he was horribly thirsty.[/justify][/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

OOC:// Do you have the Pearl version of the game Birdy? I was just wondering cos on serebii, the only dex entry that mentions water is the Pearl one ^_^

Rima smiled as the Hippopotas spoke and then she turned her head toward her daemon for a translation. Ven wasn't really in the mood for translating anything today - it annoyed him that he was the only one who could do that duty and therefore was constantly working. With a sigh he begrudingly stated,
"He's a ground type that lives in the desert, water isn't his most favoured thing in the world. Look it up on your Pokedex. However he wouldn't mind a drink since water is kind of scarce."[/color]
Rima gave an interested look toward Ven. She adored water and therefore never knew that there was a creature, or several species for that matter, that hate it. It was a mystery to her in fact. Pulling out her Pokedex she held it up and it flashed onto the screen:

"Hippopotas, the Hippo Pokemon. It enshrouds itself with sand to protect itself from germs. It does not enjoy getting wet. The male's main colouring is a sandy cream colour, whereas the female appears a muddy brown."

Rima shut her Pokedex as the voice inside finished and the picture of Hippopotas faded and then she returned it. Looking at Hippopotas she said astonished,
"Well, who'd have thought that someone doesn't like getting wet. Well no matter, if you're thirsty then. Rae use a gentle Bubble attack."
Rae jumped again when her trainer spoke to her unexpectedly, and then she put her flippers together before she spread them apart and opened her mouth, releasing small gentle bubbles that flower over to Hippopotas' mouth, hoping they would gather on his tongue where he could then swallow. Rima watched as it happened an dthen stopped and said,
"How was that?"[/font]

Hippopotas heard Rima's Pokédex speak, finding it both interesting and strange. Then he felt the cool water in his mouth, letting it trickle down his throat. He drank from the Bubble for some time, looking quite relieved at the end. The water was pleasantly cool, and he felt hydrated too. His head felt better as well; the throbbing had stopped as it was now getting the liquid it needed. In general, he felt even better than he thought he would get.

~That's amazing, thanks! My thoat and head feel so much better!~

[/color] he grinned, happy that the trainer had helped him. He knew of places which were cooler than the desert, places with lots of water, sometimes even frozen water. He'd never seen any of these places, so could only spectaculate at what frozen water looked like, or cold for that matter. He felt a sudden pang of longing, too. ~I'd love to see what cold places are like, forests and mountains and frozen water and rivers. Perhaps we could battle? Whether you win or not, I'll let you catch me. Deal?~[/color] he offered.[/justify][/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

Rima looked at Hippopotas as he spoke, but all she could make out was:
"Hippo-Hi-Hi-Potas-Hippo-Potas-Tas."
But still she looked interested; she was. Ven then relayed the message to his human,
"He wants to come along. See different things other than sand and sun. But he wants to earn it basically, through a battle.[/color]"
Rima stood up and clapped her hands with a kind hearted smile as she said enthusiastically,
"That's perfect. I had to come through here to get to the Gym, and besides I need to train my team before we even have a shot at being the next Gym Leader. So...."
Rima looked at Rae, her very small Piplup, smaller than the average Piplup and then she looked back toward Hippopotas,
"You're weak against water and don't like it do you? Well, I was going to train Rae but since you don't like that idea how about you get to choose your opponent. I have three Pokemon just for you to fight against!"
Rima pulled out another two Pokeballs and released the Pokemon inside. Three Pokemon now stood in front of the Hippo Pokemon and Rima bent down as she cuddled all three of them and looked at the ground type,
"This is Rae, who you've met. Then there's Dawn here, my Swablu, she's the last Pokemon I caught. And then there's Mina here, she's been with me since the beginning same as my Lucario Kei. But that's a different story."

The three Pokemon then began their introductions. Rae's cheeks blushed as he held herself togetehr tightly and nervously wiggled, her flippers rolling ovre one another as she said,
"H-Hello."
Dawn was a different story. The Swablu wiggled free of Rima's grasp and began to flap her cloud-like wings in the air as she smiled at the ground type and circled him enthusiastically,
"Hi there! I'm Dawn, is that right Rima? Cool I have a name now! Anyway nice to meet you, you're a Hippopotas right? I've never met one before how cool!"
Dawn continued to speak as she flew through the air happily since there was nothing that stopped her movements freely in the air, and then there was Mina. The shiny Meowth sat in the sand and looked down at her paws as they begun to sink. Shocked by the unsettled floor she jumped and climbed elegantly up Rima's leg and into her arms saying as she stared at the floor,
"Rima, mind telling me why on earth we are in a sand-pit!"
Rima giggled and rubbed the head of her Shiny Meowth, whilst down below, the Vaporeon daemon muttered to himself sarcastically,
"Great, it's the return of the princess cat."
Rima ignored her daemon and continued to grim Mina as she said,
"Mina, it's okay we're in a desert - you should like it since you're like an Egyptian cat."
Mina looked at Rima and smiled when she saw her trainer, then she sighed happily - not being able to argue at this point in time. Rima then looked down at Hippopotas and said,
"So? Who will you battle?"[/font]
