Ichigo finally found the common room after a little while of searching. She had a tendancy to get lost easily in new places. Kizu was smirking a little from his position next to her in his Vulpix form.
"I told you we should've turned left, but honestly, who listens to the daemon? No one, that's who!" he ranted, a little proud that he was right.
"Hey, I said I was sorry that I didn't listen," Ichigo responded, pouting a little. Kizu just huffed and turned away.

The Common Room wasn't the busiest of places at the moment. A few student were dotted around, making light conversation, doing work, spending some time with their Pokémon or playing games. Two people were even engaged in battle, and even their heads turned when the new girl entered.
A boy walked up to her, grinning. "Hey, there! What's your name? I'm Mark, and I'm new, too! Wanna battle?" he asked Ichigo, holding out his hand for her to shake. His daemon was a Pikachu, perched on his shoulder, and he had a Cyndaquil for his Pokémon, watching Ichigo curiously.

"Oh... uh... hi," Ichigo greeted, her old shyness creeping up on her again. "I'm Ichigo, and this is Kizu, my daemon," she introduced. Kizu, still a bit miffed, looked for a moment and turned away.
"Sure, a battle right about now would be fun! " She decided. She reached for her Pokeball and released her new Wingull. "This may be my first battle, but please don't take it easy on me."

Mark laughed. "Why would I go easy on you, Ichigo? Cyndaquil hasn't been in a battle yet, either, but we're still gonna totally flatten you!" he made a squashing motion with his hands, then his daemon shook her head and became a Starly, fluttering to the ground to watch. Mark and Cyndaquil exchanged a glance, then nodded together.
Cyndaquil cried it's name as it stood up tall, lighting the flames on it's back as it did so. They roared into life, and the fire mouse shivered in delight and relaxed somewhat. Mark grunted. "Cyndaquil, get ready! Use Scratch on the Wingull!" he called. Cyndaquil let out a cute cry which failed at being threatening, then dashed towards Wingull, paw held back in preparation to strike.

"This isn't good," Ichigo mumbled, observing the attack. "Quick, Wingull! Dodge and use Water Gun!" Wingull flew a little off the ground and fired the stream of water from above. Kizu, a little worried about being caught up in it, changed into his Natu form and got up on her right shoulder.

Cyndaquil screamed a cry as it saw the torrent of water gushing towards it's little fiery form. Fire types and Water types don't mix on the best of days. Cyndaquil curled over itself, making itself as small as possible so there was less of it to be hit when it came to it. The water washed over it's back, extinguishing the flames there in a fizz and trail of smoke. Cyndaquil stood up and wailed, shaking itself out to dry and lighting the flames again.
Mark grinned. "That's it, Cyndaquil! It'll take more than a little water to stop us! You're doing brilliantly! See if you can use Scratch, but perhaps try to watch really closely to see where Wingull goes if he tried to dodge!" he called. Cyndaquil nodded, smiling weakly as it gave Mark a playful salute. It then darted forward very quickly, approaching Wingull for the Scratch.

"Nice thinking!" Ichigo complemented. This was going to be a bit more of a challenge than she originally thought. Wingull tried to dodge again, but got hit, crying out in pain. "Don't give up! Use Water Gun again!" she encouraged. Wingull, nodding, shot another stream of water at Cyndaquil.

Mark grinned, nodding. This battle was just getting interesting! Who needed type advantage, anyway? Not when you had and awesome Pokémon like Cyndaquil! The stats neant Cyndaquil had high Speed, but only average Attack and Defense. So Cyndaquil would be able to dodge attacks, but not so much be hit by them. "Cyndaquil, dodge and use Smokescreen!" Mark insisted.
A smile played at the fiery mouse's wide mouth as it swiftly arked out the way and breathed a plume of black smoke over the area set aside for students to battle where they were all battling. The only problem was, Mark and Ichigo couldn't see in, either. This would need extreme teamwork to find out what was happening, although Mark probably had something up his sleeve.

"This isn't good," Ichigo thought. "If I can't see, the attacks won't connect. Hang on... that just might work!
"Wingull! Use Water Gun to push the smoke out of the way!" Wingull let loose another torrent of water, pusing some of the smoke aside.

There was a slight problem with that theory. Water was a liquid, but the smoke was a compound of various gasses. The liquid passed straight through the gas, barley leaving a sign that it had been. No... that was not much use. However, the area where Wingull's wings were occasionally beating seemed relatively devoid of smoke...
Cyndaquil twittered excitedly. Mark grinned behind it. "Cyndaquil, Scratch where the water came from!" he called into the black area. Cyndaquil remembered where the Water Gun had been shot from, and rushed up to meet that spot.

"Well, that didn't work..." Ichigo mumbled. That was when she realized that she had just given herself away. "Uh oh! Wingull, fly up and out of the smoke, quick!" She heard the scratch and a small cry from Wingull, worrying her a bit. To her relief, Wingull emerged from the smoke, a little worse for wear, but okay.

ooc// Oops, just realised Cyndaquil learn Tackle, not Scratch, lol.
ic// Where Wingull's wings beat to rise higher, the smoke drifted away into nothing, as before. When the seagull was above the little cloud, there was an indentation forming underneath him. Perhaps this could be getting somewhere if Ichigo used this find in a helpful manner?
Cyndaquil did not know that Wingull was out of the smoke, for it couldn't see, either. A little better than Wingull, being a Fire type, but still not the best of visability. However, Mark knew. "Cyndaquil, Wingull's out of the smoke and it's blowing away when he beats his wings! Leap up and use Leer!" he called. Cyndaquil tried to leap up to Wingull's height, but the bird could fly and it could not. It wasn't quite enough by jumping.

"Perfect; now I have a plan," Ichigo said to herself. "Wingull, aim and hit it while it's in the air! It's not a Flying type, so it'll have a bit of difficulty dodging in mid-air!" Wingull, nodding, fired a blast of water straight into the indent that was made by her wings, hoping to hit.

Cyndaquil's muffled cry sounded as the sound of a collision was accompanied by the water splashing up high. That would suggest that the attack had been successful. Cyndaquil shook itself off, more than a little angry. It was flying out of reach. That was cheating, surely! At least she hadn't done away with the smoke in the very obvious way. Perhaps she wasn't very clever, after all? Cyndaquil held only negative thoughts.
Mark shook his head. "Cyndaquil, stay in the smoke! That way, Wingull won't reach you!" he called. An unseen grin krept onto Cyndaquil's lips as it reflected what Wingull was doing. It padded about a little so Wingull didn't know it's positioning, and knew that Wingull wouldn't be able to attack unless she got rid of the smoke.

"Stay in the smoke, huh? Too bad that won't work. Wingull! Get a little closer and flap your wings as hard as you can to blow away the smoke!" Wingull nodded and moved a bit closer, not too close, but close. She then flapped her wings hard in an attempt to clear the smoke so she could actually see her target.
