Sai looked down at Nate and smiled, the little Riolu bouncing happily in his arm. He stopped and looked around the area. It was flat and sandy with a few rocks jutting out here and there. He set Nate down gently.” So what do you think about training here before moving to route one?” He asked, kneeling to reach eye level with his partner.” I think its an excellent idea.” Said Nate, who performed a happy backflip. Sai grinned and raised an eyebrow.” Can you do that again, Nate?” The Riolu looked at him curiously and tilted his head.” Do what?” He asked innocently. Sai petted his head.” The backflip, that trick you just did but try ending with bowing flourish.” He said, demstrating by kneeling onto one knee and rest on hand on the gound in front of his and the other raised dramaticly above him. Nate smiled and nodded.” Easy as eating poffins, which I really enjoy sweet ones.” He teased hintingly and crouched down, the muscles in his legs tensing as he prepared to spring into his flip. He pushed off hard, springing high into the air as he curled into a ball flipping backwards. Once. Twice. Three times. Then he landed, dropping dramaticly to one knee with a paw in front of him and the other pointing stiffly straight.
Sai was positively beaming.” Great Job, Nate. I feel so proud of you.” He said, hugging the Riolu that had hopped into his arms excitedly. Nate grinned happily. That made him feel so cool.” Thanks, That was sooo cool! Can I do it again?” He asked, blinking his big red eyes and making a begging face. It was too much for Sai and he smiled, hugging the Riolu again.” Sure, We needed to practice to make sure you've completely got it anyway.” He commented, trying not to seem as if he had just broken down from the begging. Hiroki rolled her eyes, having just woken up from her nap on top of his backpack, she'd caught the last exchange of words and decided to see what was going on. She watched as Nate attempted to flip more than before but the fourth flip caused him to be in an awkward position as he reached the ground and he ended up landing on his back. Hard! Before Sai could rush over Nate was back on his feet again looking fine and insisting the same to his worried trainer.” Ok, then lets try it again and stay with just three this time.” Sai said. The riolu made a pouting face but nodded all the same before attempting the flip again, this time landing it perfectly just like the first. After congratulations from Sai and Hiroki he tried a few more times, getting better each time. After they practiced for about an hour, Sai called for a lunch break and his partner gladly agreed.
Once they'd finished eating and resting Sai faced Nate. The Riolu looked at him curiously, head tilted. Sai pointed a finger at him.” OK, You seem to be good with little tricks that'll make contest a little easier, but lets start working on some battle scenarios.” The Riolu nodded and got into a battle stance. Sai smiled a bit and nodded, noting that the Riolu's stance look almost like an experienced martial artist's stance. After he thought for moment Nate's moveset came to his mind. He grabbed a pokeball from his backpack and threw it.” Flare, Centerstage.” The pokemon that came out had been a shiny Magby he'd received it from a person he met on the route that needed a good trainer for him. The Magby looked cutely at him.” Hiya, Sai! Whacha need me for?” He asked happily. Sai smiled and pointed at Nate.” You're gonna battle Nate so you both can work on attacks.” He said. Both pokemon nodded and Flare slipped into a battle position.” Flare, use Smog!” He yelled. The pokemon nodded and spew a thick, hot smoke twords Nate. The momentarily blinded Nate blinked and looked around confused.” Keep it together, Nate. Counter with Foresight and Quick attack.” Sai yelled encouragingly. The Riolu stood up straight and closed his eyes in concentration. He could sense Flare moving around. Suddenly his eyes snapped open and he lunged swiftly to his left, slaming full force into Flare and send the Magby sliding back a bit. Both Pokemon got back into positions and readied themselves to attack again.
