There.
The Houndour snuffled through the tall grass, pushing the stalks to the side with her paw. She caught another glimpse of the pale form that had caught her attention from the path. She rolled it from its resting place with her dark nose.
It was an egg.
The Houndour looked up and around, expecting a sudden attack at any moment. Nothing happened. She looked back down at the egg, sniffing it cautiously.
There was a very faint scent on it, but it was days old and indecipherable. The egg had been abandoned.
She looked around again, confused. She wondered if a Pokemon or a trainer had abandoned the egg. Or if the mother had been captured.
She settled next to the egg, warming it with her hot body.
The egg was rocking! Houndour sat in front of the pale shelled egg, front legs splayed around it and barking in excitement.
It's hatching! It's hatching!
A piece of shell fell off and Houndour peered happily into the hole, tongue lolling out and nearly touching the ground.
Huh?
She tilted her head to one side, tongue back in her mouth.
The egg rocked again and fell over, releasing its inhabitant.
A Magikarp.
The Houndour had hatched a Magikarp.
She picked the small fish Pokemon up in her mouth, trying to be as gentle as possible. There was a determined gleam in her eyes.
She started this, she would finish it.
Houndour carried the Magikarp to a pond and slipped it into the water, watching as it swam crookedly to a group of Magikarp absently floating around the little pond.
