Oooh, nice tutorial, Birdy ^^.
That's what I do to scratch-sprite, for the most part... only I do the whole thing on Photoshop, using multiple layers and stuff... It's more complicated, and to the same effect, really...
And your sprites aren't crappy, they're great!

I use MS Paint too! Er, that is, if you use it as well? I don't like Photoshop because it doesn't have the cool recolouring eraser. XD I sprite everything on Paint. It is, IMO, the best thing for doing sprites on, 'cept it has no layers. D:
