It was Kemedo who found the clearing. A large space in the growing amount of trees that signaled the change form Route one to Route two. A large boulder sat at one side of the area, buried a third of its height in the ground. A Large tree, fallen over in times past, lay on the opposite side.
The young Electrike lived up to his species name: Lightning Pokemon. He was fast, and full of a boundless energy. Despite having been walking for most of the day, and having been rather soundly beaten earlier by the group he now traveled with, He was still rushing about.
~Astra! Astra! Remember how Maeve said we should look out for a good place to train?! Well I found one!~ Brown eyes fixed on the Daemon. Keme seemed to have developed a sort of hero worship of the Espeon, After hearing from Tama about how he had held all immobile, all three of the Nincada had once looked up to. Of course, One of those Nincada now traveled with them as well, and being around Amel’s constant complains meant the bug type was swiftly loosing his appeal with the electrike puppy.
Astra looked at the red haired former model who was his human “Maeve? Keme thinks he’s found a good place for us to train” Green eyes looked at the Daemon and then at the Electrike “Well, Lead on Keme. If it’s suitable, We’ll stop for a while and get some practice in. I don’t really want to enter route two with out getting some training under our belt”
It didn’t take long to reach the clearing, And Maeve’s eyes seemed to light up at the sight of such a perfect training spot. “Well Done Keme! Its perfect!” The coordinator lead her pokemon into the clearing. The three pokemon lined up near the fallen tree, With Maeve and Astralon standing in front of them.
“Right! Tama, Your up first” The white and red kitten nodded and walked up to stand beside the human. ~What are we practicing?~ she asked Astralon, Who in turn translated to Maeve. “Once we’re past Route two, we’ll have reached Silav town. There a Contest Hall there, as well as a Pokemon Gym. So I want to get some Appeal Practice in, and some battle practice as well” Tamala and Kemedo nodded, while Amel was silent.
“Ok Tama, We’re going to start off with FlameWheel” Maeve said “What I want you to do is to try and hold it like this” Astralon had psychically picked up several clumps of dirt and was holding them in an upright circle. “Think you can do that? If you feel your loosing control, I want you to aim for the Boulder, It’ll take the least damage from the attack”
Tama Nodded once more, and stepped forward to face the boulder. The Small Orange and red fireballs of her FlameWheel attack sprang into existence and circled her body. A look of intense concentration crossed the cat like pokemon’s face, as she bent her will to her attack and forced it up and outwards. It took time, but the ghost/fire type managed to force her attack to become the same sort of upright ring as the clumps of Dirt that Astera had been Holding up.
A loud sound crackled through the clearing, which up till now had been silent as the Pylenti practiced. Tama jumped, and lost control of the attack, Fireballs slamming into the Boulder and leaving a noticeable scorch mark. Astralon slipped up to stand next to the Pylenti, as the Sounds of Maeve Yelling at Amel for deliberately distracting the other pokemon filled the air.
“So, Want to try it again? Or would you like to move on to something else?” The Espeon daemon asked the Pylenti. ~Keep going. I’ll master this no matter what~ determination glinted in Tama’s red eyes. Astra smiled in approval “Alright then, Same as last time. If you manage to hold it, We can move on to the next stage”
It didn’t take Tamala nearly as long to form the ring of Flame Wheel this time around. She held it steady, focusing on what she was doing until the doing so became automatic. Once she had the feel and sense of it down, She looked to Astra for the next step.
She found Maeve standing beside her. She’s been so focused on what she was doing, she hadn’t noticed her human’s return. ‘Well Done Tama! Now the next step is to practice Moving about while keeping the Wheel in the same place” Maeve smiled “Want to continue on to that step? Or Practice something else?” ~Continue!~
Tama began to move, slowly, slowly she took one step and then another. At first the wheel moved as well, following her steps and re-adjusting itself so that it was in the same place relative to her. But with each slow and careful step, the pylenti began to get the hang of moving while holding an attack, though she still hadn’t quite got the hang of keeping it in the same spot by the time Maeve called a halt.
“Ok I think We’ve spent enough time with that move on its own. How about some light easy practice?” Tama was feeling more than a little out of breath at this point, and nodded her agreement. “Right then, We’ll start with Sand attack. See the ring Astra’s set up?” The Daemon had set up a large square of branches on the ground about half way across the clearing “I want you to aim you sand attack for that”
Tama turned and trotted around Maeve so that she wouldn’t cover her Human with sand. She turned her back on the square, and then lifted her head over her shoulder, to gauge distance and direction, and then she began to kick. Sand flew through the air, obscuring everyone’s view. As it slowly settled to the ground, a large Pile of dirt was within the Square, though more was scattered over the clearing. Tama stood with a rather proud expression on her face.
‘Well Done Tama!” Maeve knelt down and Hugged the Pylenti, who purred happily. “Ok. You have a rest. Keme! Your up!” The Electrike barked and moved to stand in front of the group. By necessity Keme’s training would be the simplest, Partly because he was the youngest, partly because he knew the fewest moves, and mostly because Maeve didn’t want to risk pushing him to hard, after all, he had been knowcked unconscious when she caught him earlier.
“Astra? You got what we need?” The espeon daemon nodded and floated a pile of small sticks over to the human and Elecrike. Maeve Separated them into two piles, Set the smaller one aside for Amel’s training. She walked out an intricate pattern through the clearing, Shoving sticking into the ground at regular intervals.
“Now, Keme, We’re going to practice your tackle attack. I want you to hit as many of these as you can in one go. Think you can do that for me?” Maeve smiled as Kemedo Barked and wagged his tail. “Right then! One the count of three. One…. Two…. Three!”
The green and yellow pokemon burst into action. He took out the first stick with ease, barely pausing on his way to the second. The little pokemon ran and ran, slamming his way through the sticks his trainer had put in the ground. The little pokemon was barely more than a blur as he ran through the course Maeve had made just for him! In the short time He’d been with her, He’d developed quite a bond with the human. Keme wanted to do his very best for his new friend, And that was exactly what he was going to do.
He was through the course in record time, Dust flying from beneath his feet as he ran his fastest. ~Done!.... My Head hurts now…..~ Kemedo Trotted back to Maeve, tail still wagging. The woman turned green eyes on the wreckage that was now scattered across the clearing, bit to stick and clumps of dirt everywhere. She laughed and patted the electrike’s crest gently. “Bet you have a headache now. I wasn’t expecting you to take them all down.” She smiled as Keme licked her hand “You go back and have a rest, Let that headache settle down a bit. We’ll work on your Thunderwave later” Keme nodded and curled up against the fallen tree, One paw over his nose.
“Amel!” Maeve gestured for the Nincada to take his place. The Pokemon grumbled as he did so, but the others simply ignored him, Having gotten used to the constant complaining during their walk.
Maeve picked up the second pile of sticks “We’re going to practice your scratch attack Amel. I’m going to toss these into the air. I want you to use scratch to split them in half before they hit the ground” The nincada was about to refuse when he saw the looks on the faces of the Pylenti and the Espeon. Looks that promised a World of hurt, if he disappointed the human. ~Fine~
“On three then! One…. Two…. Three!” When she called out three, Maeve began tossing the sticks towards Amel. The Trainee pokemon moved fast, His claws snapping out and slicing through each and every stick, two small piles appearing on each side of him. As Maeve tossed the lasts tick, Amel decided to do something different, Untill that moment he had been slicing each one straight through the middle… now though… Maybe it was time to show them what made Him, The best of his father’s sons.
The final stick was thrown, twirling end over end through the air towards him. Amel took a mental step back, And then, Judging the moment perfectly, His claws Snapped out once more. A loud crack echoed through the clearing, as the two halves of the stick spun away from him… Sliced Length wize.
“Wow! Amel! That was Awesome!” Maeve cried out happily. The nincada looked at the human, surprise written all over his face. He was being praised? What a weird feeling….. Father had never praised any of them for doing their training… It was expected that one would complete one’s training and complete it well.
“That was Great Amel. Lets move on To Harden.” Maeve heafted several small stones that she ahd picked up over the course fo todays walk. “The way we’re going to practice this is simple. I’m going to throw these rocks at you. You avoid taking damage form them by using Harden”
The Nincada nodded cautiously… he was starting to develop a respect for the human’s training. It echoed the way’s his father had trained him and his brothers. Lost in thoguth for a moment, Amel missed Maeve calling the start of this training segment, and was hit rather hard on the head with a rock.
~Ow~ a small lump was beigning to form on the top of his head. “Oh… Amel! Are you alight! Didn’t you hear me call the start?” Maeve was kneeling in front of him, carefully cheacking him over for any permanent damage. ~I’m fine, Lets get this over with~
Maeve nodded when Astra translated the Nincada’s words. “Ok” She stood and took several steps back ‘Alright Amel. Use Harden!” a look of concentration crossed Amel’s face and a gleam of light surrounded his body for a moment.
“Alright Amel! Keep it up!” Maeve tossed a stone up and down in her hands a few times, before launching it at her nincada. The Stone whistled through the air on its path towards Amel. It hit with a solid ‘Thwack’ sound. Amel though, Didn’t move an inch at the blow, His hardened state protecting him from the blow.
“Ok, Again!” Another rock followed the first, Arcing through the air to strike at Amel’s abdomen. Once more the rock bounced of the Nincada’s hardened shell. “Two more rocks were swiftly thrown, Maeve not allowing Amel a chance to let his guard down. Each rock hit their target and simply bounced off the Nincada.
The Trainer Smiled when she saw that, apart form the first one, None of the rocks had done any damage. “Ok Amel, Last one” This final rock was a fair bit larger than the other’s she had thrown, but it whizzed through the air in just the same way. The final rock slammed into Amel’s legs, Kocking the Nincada over. However his Harden held strong. He might develop a small bruise there later, But not much else would happen.
“Well Done Amel!” Maeve had happy expression on her face. She’d been worried about bringing along the Nincada, ever since her vindictive mood had worn off She had been wondering what she would do with a pokemon like Amel. One who didn’t really want to be part of the team, and one who quite obviously didn’t work well with others. But he Seemd to be settling down and getting the hang of being part of the group, even if he didn’t like it much.
Maeve looked up at the sky, Which was slowly beginning to show the darkening of Night. "Right. We'll have to stop this here for the time being. I Want to get at least part way down Route Two before night falls properly."
