A great plume of green beads of energy were heading for Shinx. Oh, goody! They were battling him! Hoorah! The little cub Pokémon rocked backwards and forwards on his little paws, fluffed up and growling a little to himself to ready himself. A battle. Right. He needed to attack but avoid being hit, right? Yep, that was what his dad had told him. This was his first battle, too. He leapt into the air as the Mega Drain plume came at him, and passed over it, landing safely.
Shinx barked in surprise and delight. He'd done it! He'd dodged his first attack! He was invincable! He was on the road to victory! Wait. No, he shouldn't celebrate yet. He had to win first. Keep concentrated, he should. Yipping softly, he charged in his first move; a Tackle.

"Dodge left," Mizuki ordered. Sunkern forgot which way left was and ended up getting hit in the side. Honestly, are all of my Pokemon directionally impaired?
"Use Absorb," she tried. Sunkern obeyed, ready to take back the energy she lost.

Shinx giggled as Sunkern dodged to the wrong side. He was still, laughing quite hard at her. Well, it was a hilarious thing to happen. After all, anyone with the slightest bit of intelligence would know which way was right and left, and for that matter where to dodge, even if they didn't know right and left? Well, who was he to argue. He'd scored an easy hit, hooray! He was, however, struck by the Absorb attack as he was still.
Cursing, he chose that time to make his move. Chasing the green beads of energy on their way back to the little seed like Pokémon, of course being slower than them, the little Electric type cub was using a Tackle attack.

"Jump up at the last moment," Mizuki ordered. Sunkern timed it just right this time, and there was no way she could get up mixed up with anything else. She restored a bit of the lost energy, and got ready to attack again.
"Use Leech Seed," she decided. Sunkern landed on the ground and launched the tiny brown seed at Shinx.

Shinx was annoyed that Sunkern had dodged his attack. He was so much faster and any Grass type! He aslo knew what Leech Seed did. It would mean that on each turn, a little of his health would be lost and a smidge of Sunkern's health would be restored. This was not a good thing. He raced out the way, nearly dodging the attack. However, it caught him on the tip of his tail. The energy taken from him on this turn, and on every turn, would not be as great as it normally would be because it was only just on him, but it would still work.
Shinx snarled. He was very annoyed now. Two of the slow Sunkern's attacks had hit, but he hadn't landed a single one yet! He ran faster than ever at her in an even more powerful Tackle attack.

Mizuki visibly winced as the attack connected. Poor Sunkern... what could she do now? There had to be something...
"Use Mega Drain!" she ordered. Since Mega Drain was more powerful than Absorb, it would do more damage and give more health back to Sunkern.

Shinx saw the attack coming, like a really big Absorb. Oh, dear. Not good. He could tell that this was a separate attack to Absorb, for there was no way an attack could vary quite that much in size and power without any stat changers. He did not know that this attack was a Mega Drain, but he could guess that it was basically a stronger Absorb. That wouldn't be too good, because then Sunkurn would get healed a lot. The cub's efforts to avoid it, however, failed.
As a nice amount of Shinx's health whizzed along the little green orbs to heal Sunkurn, Shinx let out an angry cry. He raced towards the Grass type, hoping to get in a Tackle; he felt that the health delivered to Sunkurn had been enough to make it recover from the last Tackle.

Sunkern cried out in pain as she got hit again. Mizuki thought quickly; what should she do next? She had to chose the next move carefully. Sunkern looked like she was in a bit of trouble.
"Use Mega Drain again," she finally decided. Sunkern used her attack again. Hopefully, this would give her her strength back.

Shinx smiled as his attack hit. Good. That meant that Sunkurn was weaker, and so he knew that she would not last quite as long in this battle. That was a good thing, a very good thing indeed. The Electric type cub Pokémon saw the Mega Drain coming, weaving out the way of about a quarter of it. The other three quarters struck, took in energy, and healed Sunkurn a little. Shinx was left feeling as if he only had one more attack left to be hit with.
Shinx was not a quitter. Even now, when he felt as if he could not win, he racing forwards in another Tackle.

Sunkern got hit again. Bracing herself from the impact, she quickly got back up. Mizuki watched patiently from her position; she knew the battle was almost over. It certainly helped that Sunkern's only attacks were attacks that drained the enemy's strength.
"End this battle. Absorb, one more time." Sunkern didn't hesitate, and fired off the attack one last time.

Shinx grinned as he got in a hit with the Tackle. Perfect, if he was going to be defeated, he wanted to cram in as much damage as possible first. He watched as the Absorb came at him, panicing a little. He tried to dodge, not wanting to be defeated, but the Absorb was too widely spaced out to be dodged successfully. Most of the green beads found their way to Shinx. As they shot into him, he swayed before falling. The Absorb moved from the cub's fainted form to Sunkurn, healing her.
Shinx was defeated! Sunkurn gains two levels!

"I won, I won, I won!" Sunkern cheered as she bounced up and down.
"You did good, kid!" Karasu complemented, feeling Mizuki's pride in her young Pokemon. Mizuki didn't show any sign of this pride; she simply took out a Pokeball and tossed it. An Electric-type Pokemon could be very useful to her in the future.

The Pokéball bounced off Shinx's unmoving head, landing on the ground before opening up and drawing the cub inside with the usual red light. The Pokéball shut when Shinx was inside, which was when he began to put up his struggle, his fight for freedom. The Pokéball shook and shuddered, but in the end, Shinx was at a relatively low level and was fainted, so could not do much. The Pokéball pinged and stilled to declare that Shinx now belonged to Mizuki.
Shinx was caught!

Mizuki smirked as she picked up the Pokeball. This gave her a full party of six Pokemon. Well, now the best thing to do would be to train her small team and hope to get stronger. The next step... she was keeping that little tidbit to herself and Karasu.
"Shall we continue, then?" she asked.
"Yeah. The sooner we get out of here, the better," Karasu answered. Even after all that, he was still scared.
"Don't be a baby, we're almost out, she answered. "Though, I am a bit tired. I think we should camp out here for the night."
"You're enjoying this, aren't you?!" he accused. She ignored him, returned her Pokemon, and fell asleep. She didn't mind the conditions; she was used to this.
---
The next morning, she was surprised to see a Pokeball next to her. "Where did this come from?" she wondered, sniffing it over. The scent was unfamiliar...
"There's a card!" Karasu noted, picking it up. "It says 'Dear Mizuki. Have a wonderful Christmas. From Santa.'" he read.
Curious, Mizuki opened the Pokeball. A Rhyhorn stood before her, impressive in its own right. She smiled slightly, returned it, and the ball disappeared in a bright light. Probably on its way to her PC, she noted.
"Let's get going," she decided.
