Setsuko did not dress for the occasion. This was the start of her new life and somehow adorning a traditional full-length kimono, an outfit central to the career she was leaving behind, did not seem appropriate. She instead wore what she had been wearing and cleaning since she had started her journey to Enera from the Johto Region, which was still, technically a kimono. However this one would not be suitable for any formal affair, which is what receiving her first pokemon should have been, but Masa, her daemon, was on her side when she decided to wear the little turquoise number and accessories. This would allow them to start on their journey immediately after receiving the pokemon and otherwise appeared to be a good way of assuming their individuality.
Yet at this point, it was not her outfit or her make up than ran in Setsuko’s mind … though this was partially due to the fact that she was confident in their structure and permanence, but what was running through her head was what to choose as a starter. With luck, they would have limited options and the decision mightn’t be so hard, but if opportunity presented itself, should she chose a Ditto, a Happiny, or a Slugma? Any of those would be an excellent pokemon to be in the possession of a Breeder, if only eventually. Otherwise Setsuko realized that she could start smaller still and seek to be issued an egg or baby pokemon so as to better understand what she was getting into. Masa had given her this last thought process, as it was his suggestion. Despite the good nature of it, Setsuko was not leaning towards this possibility.
Masa bobbed alongside Setsuko in the guise of a Ghastly, pleased too that she took no offense to his estranged preferred form. He wondered why he even had the temperament of such a pokemon as he resisted the urge of blowing at Setsuko’s perfectly pinned brunette locks. Instead he rolled his eyes and hoped that she would lighten up, relax and learn to share her feelings and experiences with him now that there was no reason not to. Though this isn’t to suggest that he ever thought that there was reason before. Masa hoped that he could extend his tongue long enough to frighten whatever pokemon Setsuko chose. Perhaps if he tried hard enough he could start melding into a Lickitung starting at the tongue to get the extra length as a Ghastly before having completely transformed. Having never tried it in the past, Masa also wondered if there was any chance of him understanding ‘Pokespeech’ or whatever came out of the pokemon’s mouth.
With all these wonders to theorize about, the pair arrived at the Pokemon Laboratory faster than they’d expected. They had already had the discussion of, how important the professor must be to have a town and laboratory named after him, and so made no such similar comments at this time. Setsuko knocked on the door and sighed, “Tell me I’m ready for this …”
“We’re ready, Setsuko, we’ve been ready for a long time,” Masa encouraged, smiling and bobbing once more swiftly.
The air smelt of damp wood ... and opportunity.

Professor Pine slowly swung the door open, little water droplets falling from the strong wooden frame as the soft oak door, expanded due to the water, was eventually forced open. As the was eased slowly outward, the Professor's face was revealed. His daemon, Telepa the Noctowl, was looking straight at Masa with her piercing gaze, but Pine himself was gazing worriedly at the sky. A summer shower was threatening the fluffy grey clouds there. He hoped that, if it did rain, the Fire types in the expansive fields and habitats surrounding his lab especially for the starters and trainer's Pokémon would be comfortable. Finally, he looked to Setsuko, smile coming to his lips.
"Ah, hello. As you probably know, I'm Professor Pine. Come in, quickly; it looks like it could rain." Pine urged Setsuko, waving her in. As she moved inside, Telepa hovered by Masa, examining the Ghastly daemon with interest. She then, with her usual strange sense of authority, arched her wings and cut through the damp air to perch on her human's shoulder. They both were now looked directly into the human and daemon's eyes. "Well, what Pokémon would you like? I have loads, we recently had a shipment come in." Pine grinned.

The aged professor’s grin sent chills down Setsuko’s spine that she couldn’t explain. His eyes, though friendly, appeared judgemental. She supposed it made sense that he would be concerned about the conditions under which the many pokemon from his care would be distributed to. The nearly new trainer knew that she could abandon the beast, or worse, abuse it. Nevertheless, she tried to return the smile so as to portray her innocence and good will, but feeling the forced stretch of her lips she doubted it looked believable. Masa shook his head, and she could feel his cloud of gas drift through her hair. He had previously cocked an intrigued eye in the Noctowl’s direction, but was now feeling quite humiliated realizing the nervous state of his human.
“I did have more than a few in mind,” Setsuko said in a small voice, humming quietly afterwards as she pulled a black pack from her right shoulder to free her arm enough to offer her hand to the man. “It’s good to meet you, Professor. My name is Setsuko Umi, and I have traveled from the Johto Region to start my journey under your guidance. I seek to be recognized as a brilliant Pokemon Breeder one day, and if you have any advice to offer, I would accept it gladly.”
The young woman hoped that her gloved hands were neither sweaty nor too damp considering the humid air outdoors as the clouds circled overhead. She wondered what she or anyone else would do were they to choose a Charmander under these conditions. Although understood that it would be silly to have the weather impact one’s decision for their starting pokemon companion. Setsuko sighed and lowered her head. She wasn’t entirely certain of her own motives either, however. If she were to ask for and receive a Ditto for the purposes she was considering, the pokemon might be subject to some kind of scrutiny in which other pokemon or people may refer to it in derogatory ways … like a whore. Her decision would be to insist that there are different laws of ethics in regards to these actions made by pokemon and would impress that the term surrogate mother / father would be more appropriate. Setsuko wondered if the professor or other credible individuals would see it that way and still she faltered after her introduction.
Masa bounced up and down behind her head, and the young woman realized that she had forgotten something very important. “Oh!” She piped. “And this is Masa.”
“Pleased to make your acquaintance,” he said as he attempted to make a silly face at the Noctowl, wondering if he could get her to giggle. After his attempt he smiled casually and brought himself to hover just below the professor’s eye level. If no one else reacted, at least Setsuko smiled, and this pleased the daemon. Masa thought it a shame that Setsuko would be so limited socially in being so meagre in personality and so lush in appearance. He hoped that this would change and that her tongue would flow with many more relaxed words after she gained some confidence in her impending pokemon talents.
Setsuko opened her eyes and her face fell back into an almost expressionless state, however, her eyes were still smiling, the bottom lids curled up, and her excitement would was not entirely invisible. It was suppressed though by numerous ridiculous worries, such as that that her dragging in the scent that the air obtains just before a storm disturbed the Professor or just made her smell dirty. The office itself had an unidentifiable odour, but simply had one of those smells of a dwelling that is not ones own. The unfamiliarity of Setsuko’s visual sensations was slightly more daunting and so she was ignoring the former irregularity.
“I – I’d like to request a Ditto, should you have one?” she asked. It would not be all powerful, and would never know more attacks than what it would possess when presented to her, but she knew it was her best choice, as it was sure to be an affectionate, understanding pokemon with the ability it would have. She worried now only that some people might be so ignorant as to assume Masa the pokemon and the Ditto her daemon until Masa settled that was. Her heels shuffled a little, but Setsuko did her best to stand straight.

Professor Pine gasped in delight at the request, clapping his hands together in joy as Telepa puffed out her chest proudly. "OH! Ditto, yay!" he grinned. He was oh-so proud of this Ditto, it seemed. Although Ditto were extremely rare, no-one ever seemed to ask for one, so he had actually collected two over the years. He opened a drawer of a filing cabinet, clutching the rim with his bony fingers so tightly his knuckles turned white. He was clearly excited. Telepa didn't even rearrange the Pokéballs, she simple perched above him, cooing in happiness. He drew out two Pokéballs, walking back over to Setsuko, shivering in excitement. With a flick of his wrist, the Pokéballs were tossed and the two Ditto released.
The first Ditto walked- well, Ditto can't walk- blobed around Setsuko. It stared at her, blinking slowly. Not the brightest of Pokémon, then. It stretched up tall, but lost it's balance and fell over backwards, crying out as it rolled about weakly. Urm... right. Perhaps not the strongest of Pokémon, either. This Ditto didn't seem to be what the fuss was all about.
However, the second Ditto was. The other one had been the normal gooey pink colour, but this Ditto was a brilliant blue. It moved quicker than the last, racing forward. It looked at Masa, copying his form and becoming a Ghastly. However, the colouring was different even in this form. It then saw Telepa, and became a shiny Noctowl, hooting as it swept over on new wings to Setsuko. This was a shiny Ditto, with a good personality; this was what Pine had been so excited about.

Setsuko smiled in amusement as the first Ditto showed interest in her, she wouldn’t have expected such enthusiasm from a creature with which she had formed no bond. As it fell over, her smile faltered somewhat and she could hear Masa giggling behind her. The young woman held out a hand to the blob, looking to help it up, but as she bent in its direction her blue eyes blinked as they caught sight of the second Ditto – a shiny Ditto. She bit her bottom lip; it was brillant.
Masa caught sight of it around the same time as Setsuko, and his plans to try to shock the pokemon were thwarted as it surprised him by transforming into a Shiny Ghastly, as even he couldn’t do that. It’s enthusiasm … slightly annoyed him, as he hoped he would not have to fight for Setsuko’s or anyone else’s attention with this talented blob bouncing around. Though he did have to admit that it was a beauty, and he would certainly enjoy its company should it always hold such energy, and this would certainly improve the rate at which Setsuko would learn to be more relaxed. Masa morphed into a Noctowl as well and tilted his head as he fluttered around the two other birds before calling, “I like her.”
The new Breeder stood erect and had to correct her daemon, “It’s not a her … but I suppose that does appear kinder than referring to the Ditto as an it … like an object …”
“Tto!” piped the shiny Ditto, and Setsuko was surprised, she voiced her wonder.
“Professor, do Ditto’s always call out their own name? Even while transformed? Or should it one day learn to disguise that as well? I only ask because I don’t know …” the young woman mumbled a little as she justified her query. A hand found her curls and supported her head as Setsuko wondered if she should know this information.
Her lips pressed solemnly together and she stood up straight, her arms at her sides as she declared in a steady, worried monotone, her eyes wide, “And though it feels wrong to pick favorites, I would be very interested in procuring the shiny Ditto from you. I promise that I would train and take the upmost care of it.”
This wasn’t a lie, as despite her interests in using the Ditto to obtain Eggs and learn about nurturing pokemon, she would want her to be strong and versed in battle – she was her starter after all. She eyed the shiny Noctowl and had to keep herself from flinching as she noticed she was headed her way. As Setsuko worried that her shoulders were not wide enough to support the girth of the Ditto, she morphed back into a blue blob and clung onto her face. She blushed profusely as the Ditto swung back the lump of her form that held her dot-eyed face and called back to the others joyfully, “Dit-ditto!”
The Ditto swiveled her weight over to one of her lumps that had been acting as an arm holding herself to Setsuko and then rest on the woman’s shoulder. Although Setsuko could not understand the pokemon’s speech, she could see that she understood hers, as she had always been told all pokemon do. The Ditto seemed pleased with the little speech Setsuko had made. Setsuko held the hand belongint to the arm on which the Ditto sat into the pokemon’s mushy side, now only thinking that should Professor Pine agree to give her the Ditto, the pokemon was in dire need of a name.

Professor Pine smiled at her first question of whether or not they could mask their voice. As he returned the normal Ditto to it's Pokéball, he said something kindly to the shiny. "Show Setsuko your voice. Use Transform, then say something." Ditto grinned, blue gloopy body shifting as it transformed into the first Pokémon it could see in this room; a large statue of a Lucario. ~Luc! Crio!~[/color] it cried, in a slightly high pitched Lucario voice. It could be translated by Masa as "See! My voice!" Ditto transformed back into it's putty-like self, beginning to do everything in the previous post. Pine laughed at Setsuko's question. "It isn't wrong that you get shiny Ditto. I give people their starters, no matter how rare or anything. I like giving out Pokémon, and there's not much I could do if I kept all these Pokémon to myself, is there? So please, take Ditto. I'm sure it'll love being with you on your travels." he smiled, handing her a Pokéball and an array of items.
