((OOC: Sorry, I had computer problems, and therefore have been gone for a long time. And this is after she's got Articunofrom the giveaway, if that's still valid)
There was a spring in Gaia's step as she walked along, heading towards route one. Every now and then her ears would flicker at a noise she heard somewhere, but she was too trapped in her thoughts to really pay attention. She was still thinking about the majestic ice bird that was currently in a pokeball on her belt. She'd offered to let Articuno out, but the pokemon was happy to stay in the ball, as not to attract the attention of other trainers, who might still try to 'aquire' her.
Arion, however was not so enthusiatic as he walked next to her, as an Umbreon. They already had to stop 3 or 4 time for Gaia to sketch somethng she'd seen, and he wondered if they manage to make it to another town before the sun fell. He was sure Gaia wouldn't mind camping out, but still he just wanted to get 'somewhere' at least. Either that or do something more entertaining, like fight a or try to capture something.
Gaia however was unaware of his thoughts, and perfectly happy with taking her time, excited as she guessed anyone would be when just starting their journey.

ooc// Of course it's still valid, you already earned it.
ic// A little Pokémon was munching happily at a few berries it had found. It was so pleased that these hadn't been eaten! It was feeling very good today, having been extremely lucky. First of all, it had found a predator, but had been lucky there; said predator had found the body of a Caterpie that had frozen in the icy weather, and so had been too busy eating that to care when it escaped. Then the little Pokémon had seen it snow, and the snow had settled all over the ground, making a nice carpet. And now the berries. Lovely!
~Nub nub, swiney swine ub!~ the Pokémon sang happily to itself when Gaia arrived. It froze. Uh-oh. There went its good day. A trainer, who'd beat it up for no reason and leave it to the hands of meany carnivors! Swinub shivered in fear, whimpering. Then again, if this trainer was nice, maybe she'd take it with her? That would be interesting. They'd be adventures to be had. Swinub moved closer to the trainer, requesting a battle.

((OOC: Okay))
It was Arion who spotted the pokemon first. He paused then quickly glance to his trainer, who had yet to notice. Silently he wished the pokemon would move away before she noticed, and chose to draw it. However when the Swinub noticed them, it didn't flee. It froze.
By now, Gaia had once more snapped out of her thoughts, or at least enough to notice to the small pokemon. Her ears flicked up in happiness at the idea of another pokemon to watch and draw, before lowering when she realised it seemed scared. She crouched down slightly, ready to say something to it, when it unfroze, and moved towards her.
A battle? Gaia frowned. She wasn't that sure she wanted to fight, especially not against such a cute pokemon. Arion however was pleased. A battle would be quicker then drawing at least. "Go on Gaia. You need to train, not to mention it would be an okay addition to the team"
Pleased at the idea of a new pokemon, Gaia nodded, and quickly decided which pokemon to send out. Swinub was an Ice and Ground pokemon, so the best option would be..."Fern!"
She released the shiny vulpix, who briefly looked around, unsure at waht was happening, before she spotted the Swinub, and crouched down, waiting for either it to attack, or her new trainers orders.

Swinub watched Gaia. At first it seemed she wanted to rub a stick on a flimsy sheet of some sort. Why? What was the point in that? Then, with a little prompting from her daemon, she sent out a Vulpix. Ooh, it was a shiny, too. Interesting. The Swinub grinned, pleased, and clapped in happiness. Now it would get to battle! Who knew, maybe it would even win? Swinub wasn't entirely confident in its abilities, but all the same, it could and would try. Maybe the trainer could even tap the stick to the sheet again during the battle, if she really wanted.
Swinub eyed Fern. The Vulpix was bigger than it was, but that wouldn't stop him. No-serie, not a chance. The Ice type watched carefully, then saw that the trainer did not give her any orders. All right, that must mean it was Swinub's turn to move then, right? Swinub wasn't used to this sort of thing, but how hard could it be? It certainly looked easy enough. Instinctual. The Pokémon put on a burst of speed for its attack, running at Fern like a little brown stripey missle. This was undoubtably a Tackle attack, aiming right at the shiny Vulpix.

Although Fern had been expecting an attack, she hadn't been expecting the speed having slightly undestimated her opponent. The smaller pokemon hit her in the chest, causing the yellow fox to be bowled backwards into the snow. However she was quickly on her feet again. Shaking her self, she looked to her trainer, ready to know what she should do.
Flicking her ears, Gaia quickly studied the situation. Fern was still young, and only knew a few moves, but hopefully those she had would be enough. "Okay, use Ember" Next to her Arion nodded in aproval. Swinub was an Ice type, so fire should be effective against it.
Understand Fern crouched briefly, before leaping forward towards the sinub, at the same opening her mouth, and aiming the small stream of fire at the Ice/Ground pokemon.

Ember was indeed a move that was super effective against Swinub. The little Pokémon shuddered as the hot flames washed over its body. Ow, those were really hot. Too hot, uncomfortably hot, painfully hot. Fern was a Fire type, a bad thing to be battling when you were an Ice type. Still, Swinub couldn't back out purely because of a silly thing like a type disadvantage. That would just be stupid. There was no need to back out, really. Pokémon with type disadvantages had won before, and it hoped to be one of those Pokémon.
Swinub, at the stage it was currently on, only knew one offensive move. It also knew Mud Sport and Odor Sleuth, but it certainly couldn't find any use for Mud Sport and as for Odor Sleuth, Swinub would rather weaken Fern. It preferred to go on hitting the opponent with offensive attacks, only using stat changers if they'd be really useful. Presently, the little brown furred Pokémon charged at the Vulpix again in another Tackle.

Tackle again? The move confused the little vulpix for a second, before realising it mustn't have any other offensive moves. That or it mainly relied on Tackle anyway. As the pokemon aproached she sprung out the way, just in time as she felt the small pokemon pass her. She spun around, facing it again.
Gaia, having watched as the last attack hit, smiled. It seemed ember was effective. As far as she knew, Fern only knew, Ember and growl, as well as Heat Wave accoding to her pokedex, which was an egg move it seemed.
Deciding to save the strnger fir move in case she neded, she called out to Fern. "Keep using Ember, it's working"
~Okay~ The small fox barked back before, once again rushing foward firing ember, exactly like she had before, straight on.

Another Ember? That wasn't a very good thing for the little pig Pokémon. Ember really hurt, from what it had experienced so far. That meant it weakened it more than the other moves, so it would make it faint quicker, before it could do much damage to Vulpix. Then again, Fern had dodged it, so maybe it would be able to dodge Fern in return? The Swinub wasn't the speediest of Pokémon, but managed to avoid the attack, just barely, feeling the heat from what could have hit as it sailed past.
This made the Ice type very pleased with itself. It had dodged, it had sucessfully dodged! That was so good! It smiled in joy and pride, then remembered that it had to keep a focus on the battle. Eye on the prize, and all that, right? Something like that. It made a little noise and worked out quickly how it would position this next Tackle without even realising it was. The Swinub then put on a mad burst of speed, rushing towards Fern the Vulpix as quickly as it possibly could.

Fern tilted her head slightly as her attacked missed. She hadn't been expecting it to dodge even if she'd done so herself. Once again she'd underestimated the wild pokemon. She was so caught up in trying to figure out if there was a way to prevent it from dodging, that she didn't notice the next attack. For the second time in the fight the vulpix was sent bowling backwards, with a cry of protest.
Shaking herself she stood back up, growling slightly, though it didn't sound at all threating coming from her. She went back into her signature crouch, ready to attack again. Attacking straight on didn't seem like it would work now, so maybe from the side?
"Hmm, that pig's cleverer then it looks" Arion commented as he watched. "This might take a while if they both keep using ember and tackle"
"I know" Gaia commented as she watched."Okay, Fern, use Heatwave"
Fern tilted her head at the order. Heatwave. A move she knew and the other Vulpix at the lab didn't. She nooded at the order then leapt, this time diagonally to the side, and opened her mouth, aiming for swinubs side, causing a stream of burning hot air to fly towards the ice pig pokemon.

Swinub saw the attack being lauched. Uh-oh, a Heat Wave. That was a very strong Fire type attack, right? It would probably be strong enough to finish the battle, even though Swinub wasn't feeling all that weak and the attack had been used on only the third turn of the battle. No, Swinub didn't feel much like going down next. Not until Fern showed significant signs of being very weakened would it mind going down.
Because of that, the Pokémon would just have to avoid the attack as best as he could. Since it was aimed at his side, he didn't have to waste time turning before he ran. He was caught by not much over half the attack, but it weakened him an awful lot. He panted heavily, then tried to send an attack of his own back. Another Tackle, powerful, motivated, and accurate.

Fern smiled triumphantly as the attack hit, albeit only half. She was slightly annoyed that her attempt at making it harder to dodge had done the opposite, but it was all helpful battle experiance she guessed.
Another useful experiance would be rembering to dodge. Yet again, the attack surprised her. However it was stronger then the other two and knocked her back much further, where unlike the previous two times, she just lay for a few seconds, before slowly getting up. Although most would say tackle wasn;t that special, the constant attacks, and the fact she was still of low level, was slowly wearing down the little fox.
"Well Done Fern, keep wearing it down with fire attacks" She heard Gaia's command, and nodded. Fire attacks. She knew they were hurting the little pig. Giving a little foxish grin she ran forward, this time trying for a point blank attack, despite the possibilities of it backfiring. Stopping only about a foot from the litle pic, she once again fired off Heat Wave.

Swinub sighed, knowing that there was no way he would survive another Heat Wave. So, he would go down without weakening Fern after all... true, she'd taken a little while getting back up, but it wasn't as if that meant she was weak enough for Swinub to be able to call it an honourable loss. He felt a little like it was cheating to just use a bunch of super effective, super powerful moves when all your opponent could do was a pitiful Tackle, over and over. Maybe it was an honourable loss, after all.
As the pig felt the attack rush over him, he spat in Fern's face. Well, there wasn't much else he could do, was there? Just a little sign of dislike. A foot from him? Seriously, that had to be cheating. Because of this, Swinub was incredibly pleased to see a rather lot of backfire. Good, the stupid Vulpix would be hurt. This was the last thought the Ice type had before he fainted.
Swinub was defeated! Fern gains two levels!

Fern growled as the ice pig spat at her, however that was the least of her worries. The back fire from the attack had hit her, and depite being a fire type the heat was uncomfertable. But for some reason it wasn;t hurting her as badly as she had thought it would.
"Flash Fire" Arion commented. "I think that's the name of the ability Fern's got. It makes them some what immune to fire attacks, it seems. "
Gaia nodded, somewhat greatful to the ability. Then suddenly she remebered something, and her hand when to a spare pokeball on her belt. True she already had an Ice type with articuno, but Swinub was also a ground type, and she wanetd to start building a team as soon as possible.
Arion saw her take the ball off her belt, and nodded to her, as she threw it towards the fainted ice pig, willing it to work.

The Pokéball easily drew the Swinub inside. This was because, as a fainted Pokémon, Swinub was unable to knock the Pokéball aside, and so the capture device absorbed him in the usual manner of red light. It was interesting as to how the Pokéball actually worked in capturing Pokémon, but it wasn't as if it would be a good idea to research that in the middle of a route, either. Once Swinub was inside, the Pokéball fell to the ground and began to shake rather violently as Swinub fought for freedom.
Swinub rocked the sides of the Pokéball, thinking. This trainer didn't like to get her Pokémon hurt, did she? That could be good, but Gaia also seemed to try and make the battles as short as possible, and also used type advantages. That could get annoying; Swinub loved long, difficult battles. However, despite his incredible efforts to fight, the pig Pokémon was caught. Where would Gaia look for Pokémon next?
Swinub was caught!
