So, there it was. The Lab, the starting point for all trainers when they began their journey. It was early morning, probably about eight a.m. in all. Selek leaned against an orange-leaf colored tree that was near the lab. He watched as the dry leaves around him began to fall. He caught one as it gently fell to the ground. It was a magnificent hue or orange, it was a bright, vibrant orange-as if it still had life within it even though it was no longer green.
"I think I have it, Picard." Selek said, the tall, thin, and pale trainer-to-be moved away from the tree. His Alakazam Daemon, who was leaning on the tree as well-snoozing-opened his eyes and looked lazily around. "Have what? Did you really find it-really? The cure for your humor-less attitude?" "I've found the type of Pokemon I'd like to have as a Starter, Picard. That's what I've found." Picard sighed, "then no, you didn't find your sense of humor. Well-go on, what did you choose? A Budew? Bulbasaur? Charmander?" "No-not any of those! I've decided on a much better choice." Picard blinked and walked over to Picard, gently taking the leaf out of Selek's hand. "Its an orange leaf...you want an orange leaf-as your starter?" Selek sighed, not understanding Picard's joked, and moved on toward the lab. "Hope we aren't to late." Picard dropped the orange leaf and followed, laughing at the joke that Selek made-only it wasn't a joke, as Selek meant it in all seriousness.
Within a matter of minutes, Selek was at the door of the Lab. He had become silent soon after leaving the leaf behind. Inhaling deeply, Selek would try his best not to seem so distant and socially-awkward, though inside he didn't enjoy it. He hated talking to others, which he hoped was something the Professor wouldn't hold against him. After a few minutes, Selek knocked on the doors, before slowly opening them and speaking as he walked in, Picard behind him. "Good morning-" Selek became nervous, his voice quivering as if in fear, and become a little quieter, "anyone h-here?" "We probably just woken up the most important person in your journey Selek, good going!" Selek sighed, not understanding Picard's sarcasm in the slightest.

Professor Pine, as a matter of fact, had not been woken up. After all, it was after eight o'clock! Kids would be nearly to school, and although he worked whenever he liked, he liked his work and started when he woke up. He'd been up for hours trying to fix an annoying little peice of mechanics. In fact, for once he didn't mind leaving his station for a little bit to get a new trainer started. He'd been stumped, and was having a hard time. His face was bright and cheery as he opened the door. "Hello! I'm Professor Pine, do come in!" he said, leading Selek inside.
The interior of the lab, at least the room which the new trainers saw, was rather nice, with that huge cabinet containing lots of Pokéballs for the starters, and a few plushy armchairs. Pine offered one to Selek. "Right. So, what Pokémon would you like for your starter?" he asked.

((OOC: YES, you read this post correctly.))
Selek listened as Prof. Pine-who did not seem tired at all-and Selek took his time to observe the room he was lead into. Selek stepped carefully, not wanting to scuff the floors with his shoes, and his hands were draped behind his back as he seemed to become fixed on various objects. The walls, the floor-and last of all the cabinets which-hopefully-held the Pokemon he so dearly wanted. Picard made an 'ahem' noise, catching Selek's attention. "I believe the Professor is offering you a seat, Selek. In most cases you take a seat when you can get it." Picard seemed to state this in all honesty as if he was used to directing Selek like a dog directs a blind man. "Oh-oh, yes."
Selek quickly sat down in the closest armchair and continued to gaze around the room, as if he were totally enthralled by it. Picard sat down next to the chair, and closed his eyes as if to fall asleep. However, after Selek remained silent, Picard began to speak for him, "his name is Selek-you must forgive him. He isn't well adjusted to being social." Picard sighed, and then continued, "as for the starter, I believe he's settled on a ch-" "No-Picard. I don't want that." Selek seemed to say the 'no' rather sharply, perhaps too sharply for the moment. It made Picard wince as if he had been hit. "I would like-a-a-Magikarp."
Picard nearly stood up when he heard Selek speak. His expression in his eyes alone told him he was more then surprised. "Surely you must be joking!" "You know I don't joke." And Selek was correct, but it was quite an odd choice. "I see promise in Magikarp, I've spent enough time studying Pokemon as it is-why not go with the one Pokemon no one ever wanted? I'm sure it can be easily trained because it will be eager to prove everyone wrong." Picard sighed, "Well-I guess. Its a logical statement-stupid, but logical." Selek of course, ignored the comment.

ooc// LOL! But seriously. Magikarp are like, so awesome. I mean, really. Like, they know SPLASH! Aw, I heart Magikarp and I'm glad to see someone wants one!
ic// Pine's jaw dropped. A Magikarp? Was this man crazy? He was definately off his rocker. Pine saw a teensy amount of logic in his theory, but shook his head. It was all too ridiculous. No one had ever chosen a Magikarp. He only had two, and they had been here for about a year, and one had just randomly showed up in the drawer! No-one wanted Magikarp. It just didn't happen. "Right... a Magikarp. Seriously, you should reconsider. Magikarp are extremely hard to train because they don't learn any offensive moves until level fifteen, and can't learn any TMs or HMs. They don't even have any Egg Moves! And when they evolve, they're often seriously disobedient." he said, desperately trying to change Selek's mind and save his trainer career.
He sighed. Clearly, it was no use arguing. He reached into his cabinet, drawing out the two dusty Pokéballs of those Pokémon that it was a wonder it even existed. He showed them to Selek. "Which one would you like? The one in my left hand is a shiny. The one in my right hand is an ordinary Magikarp." he said. Which one would Selek take?

Selek knew the difficulties with a Magikarp. He knew exactly what he was getting into, an upward climb that would be so high up that Selek would be lucky to make it out of Route One. Picard knew there was no convincing him, but surely-there had to be a better choice. "Even a-a-Rattata would be a good choice, Selek. Anything but a Magikarp would be, just think about it. Its cons outweigh its pros!" Selek would not hear it. He had faith in Magikarp, no matter how hard and frustrating it would be.
Selek went to speak, he wanted the normal one. However before he was able to, Picard cut in. "Don't go with the Normal one, Selek. Against all your perfect logic-think about it? We won't get very far with a Magikarp, the least we can do is have the Shiny one, at least it will have some respect if for no other reason then its lucky color." Selek didn't see much reason in that. To win easily, and with a good colored Pokemon didn't matter to him. It was the training and plotting that he enjoyed. However, it was apparent that Picard didn't want Selek to take the normal Magikarp, and with a sigh, Selek replied, "I'll..t-take the Shiny one, if its alright with you."

Pine nodded, shakily and reluctantly handing over the shiny's Pokéball before returning the other one to the drawer. He smiled, leading Selek, Picard and his new Pokémon to the door. Handing him a starter pack, he smiled. "Good luck. You'll need it. I would reckomend befriending and catching another Pokémon as soon as you possibly can." he advised seriously. After all, it was a Magikarp. Pretty much useless until it evolved.
Once Selek and co. had left, Pine shook his head. Magikarp. He must be dreaming. Telepa nibbled his finger to test that theory. It hurt. He sighed.
Selek recieved;
