Chris had finally taken the courage again to go back to Route Four. He hadn't examined everything yet and he would love to see more Pokemon that lived around here, he wasn't so interested in catching them. He wanted to study them, although catching them would be an extra bonus to him, true. He bit his lip faintly and felt himself stumble as his feet hit a rock. He glared at it, ignoring the glare aimed at him by his own Daemon.
His hands touched the pokeballs and a smile broke out. He couldn't believe that he had those Pokemon already, only to hope that they could accept that he would sometimes forget them. It was a bad thing, he knew, but sometimes examining Pokemon was more interesting. Layla often reminded him and it was only because of her that they got a portion of food three times a day.

As it was winter, the air was cold and Pokémon didn't come here to relax. Nor did people, not that many came here anyway because of the wild Pokémon. No snow was on the beach thanks to the salt and the sea, but it was still cold. There weren't as many Pokémon about today, but one did seem to be enjoying himself. He was a Spheal, part Ice type. He was rolling along happily, and hadn't seemed to notice Chris and Layla yet.
Spheal rolled, then stopped rolling and decided to take things at a more controlled and relaxed pace. He moved without rolling, doing an odd sort of waddle-push-flop with his fins. It seemed to not cost him much effort, meaning this was a fairly efficient way of moving although it didn't look it. It might be interesting just to watch him go about his normal life, or maybe Chris would want to let himself be known to the blubbery Pokémon.

He decided to watch, although it could prove difficult if the Pokemon took offense on it. It was better than be caught, Chris would say. He didn't know how a Pokemon would take it, he studied them, yes. It didn't mean however that he knew everything about Pokemon all of a sudden. He wasn't that long in the branch and he had only seen about fifty different Pokemon and studied them deeply. He of course had seen a Pokemon fly over or have seen them run past.
He had to be honest with himself, he never knew how the Pokemon could do that. The pushing oneself further with mere fins, it didn't look easy. He felt Layla seat herself next to him, watching the Pokemon as well. Her forked tail twitched lightly and pupil-less eyes looked at him What are you planning? She questioned, almost feeling paranoid about what her other was planning now.
He didn't answer her, already engrossed in the simple feel of watching, writing up what he saw and look again. The Daemon sighed softly and waited for the Researcher to focus on her again. It could take a while however, she finally stretched and patted away, although making sure she didn't go too far away to stop them from suffering any pain that their separation could cause.

Spheal still hadn't noticed Chris. He decided to take it easy, not bothering even to waddle any more. He lay down, staring out as the sea as it lapped against the sand. After a few minutes, he rolled over onto his back, closed his eyes, and began to doze. He remained very still while he slept, the only movement being his gently breathing. He looked quite adorable, in fact. So peaceful, too.
That it, he looked peaceful until another Pokémon came along. A Shellder emerged from the water, looking about to see where it was. It spied Spheal, and smiled a little evilly. It made its way over to the sleeping Ice type- and clamped down on the poor thing. He woke with a start, and yelled. He seemed pretty angry with Shellder, but did not want to fight. Shellder, however, didn't seem to listen, and bit him over and over again. Oh no!

He blinked as the Shellder went to the Spheal, only to clamp down on him. The feline Daemon next to him looked as well, an impatient look on her features Are you going to do something? She questioned. Chris looked at her with something akin to confusion "Oh.. oh, yes.." He spoke, absent "Of course you're perfect, dear.." She let out another sigh and rolled her eyes.
The Spheal, Chris! It seemed to snap him out from whatever had gotten him and he blinked once more "Oh.. yes." He looked at the two and frowned "Well, that isn't nice, that's for sure..." He spoke, his hand searching for the Pokeballs by his side. His hand took one and he dropped it, he let himself drop, trying to catch it. It only opened, luckily for him.
The Pokemon inside, wouldn't be too happy though. The Ralts looked at him, before turning to the Pokemon in front of him ~Ralts?~ He spoke, glaring at Chris from time to time. Chris just smiled "Can you... help the Spheal, please?" He questioned. The Ralts looked at him, before seeming to shrug before using confusion on the Shellder.

Shellder felt the Confusion. Confusion wasn't the strongest move in the world, but it still hurt and Shellder wasn't one to just let that pass. The Water type was pretty angry. This Ralts had just appeared out of nowhere and attacked it! It then spotted Chris. Aha- a trainer! That was why. It released its grip on Spheal in order to battle. The seal Pokémon sighed as it felt the pain leave, and rolled off to relax a little further away, but still in sight.
Shellder, on the other hand, felt that it had been provoked enough to excuse the starting of a battle. After all, it didn't want to just sit there and do nothing, did it? It had to retaliate, to weak this Ralts until he was defeated and Shellder had victory! The Water type shot an Icicle Spear at the Psychic type. This was when Shellder's ability came into effect- a curious one called Skill Link, meaning that 2 - 5 hit moves like Icicle Spear would always hit five times.

The Ralts tried to evade the attack, it unfortunately hit however and the Pokémon cried out. Chris was quick to order two new things, to use double-team and to use growl on the Shellder. Ralts did so, as always hoping that it would hit, although the chances of missing where small with such a slow -in his eyes- Pokémon.
Chris meanwhile walked toward the Spheal, more curious in that Pokémon than in the Pokémon fight he was leaving behind. He crouched lightly and almost poked the Spheal with the tip of his boot. His Daemon holding him back in time from doing so, earning her as always a nod of the head and a distracted smile.

Spheal looked at Chris with big, bright eyes, looking rather grateful to the trainer. After all, he had saved it from the nasty Shellder. The battle was interesting, too, and although Spheal watched it with curiousity, it in no way wanted to fight. It was a peaceful Pokémon, and to be honest a little cowardly. But still, it was somehow loveable. Shellder, on the other hand, wasn't quite like that, and looked at Ralts with an angry expression as the Psychic type both lowered its defense and made copies of himself.
Ah, not so good. As well as his attack stat being lowered, it now faced multiple Ralts, although it knew that only one of them was real. However, all of them looked exactly the same. Double Team was a pretty useful move, it was clear from this. Well, it didn't know Double Team, and it didn't think it ever would. Oh, well. Right now, its priority was to think of a way to find the real from the fakes. It was about to use a Tackle, but stopped itself in time and instead used an Icicle Spear, sending one through a different Ralts to last time. Thanks to its ability, it would again deal five, but would any of those five be the real Ralts?

The Ralts saw the Icicle spears move toward him and was thankful for the copies. It didn't realize that one of those spears moved to the real him. He quickly stepped aside and felt it graze his side. Anor looked down to it and blinked lightly, gaze returning to the Shellder with an angry expression on the face. Chris pulling his attention away from the Spheal ordered yet another confusion attack. Chris quickly followed with ordering a growl attack. Anor did so, after looking at his trainer with some confusion. [bleh, not good ;]

Birdy//♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥Shellder could see that Anor the Ralts was growing annoyed. Good, good. That meant that he was probably doing well in this battle. The Pokémon could see the trainer ordering attacks. The Growl came first, reaching its ears and making its heart soften a little. Aw, how could it possibly attack the cute little Ralts? The feeling of its attack stat dropping brought it to its senses, making the Shellder snarl in annoyance at the trick.
Then it saw Anor preparing a Confusion. Those things were painful, and like any Pokémon in battle, Shellder wanted to avoid pain. Because of this, it concentrated on the space in front of it. Soon, a shimmering barrier appeared; a Protect. The Confusion struck this barrier, and the attack was absorbed, leaving Shellder unharmed. The Protect then broke into a bunch of glittering sparkles, which drifted to the ground and faded out of existence as the move had done its job. Shellder watched to see what Chris and Anor would do next.
