If a site with wonderful art and an amazingly welcoming community sounds attractive to you, I'd suggest that you take a look at Misticpets! As the name suggests, it is a petsite - currently with 33 species of pets, 14 basic colors to choose from, and 15 more detailed themes you can box your pets. And more will be added in the future, of course! Here's just a quick taste of a few:
The site goes far beyond the simple pets, though: the main thing I enjoy about the site is its wonderful community. Upon posting in the forums (the heart of the site, I would say), I'm sure you'll find that everyone is welcoming and helpful. Misticpets is smaller than many pet sites, which makes for a closer community. Want to have a chat with an admin about a cool book you've read? There's no great separation between staff and regular members on Mistic; you'll find the head admin and other staff laughing with the rest of the community!
There are also roleplaying boards for those interested, and boards for general art and writing as well. In fact, there's a place to talk about pretty much anything! And of course there are many other features, games and events and such, that I haven't mentioned - I'd venture to say that there's something everyone can enjoy on the site that's captured my interest for over two years now. =)
