Abby felt confident about herself as she prepared to continue. She'd already managed to catch two Pokemon, and a third had been given to her for Christmas. Brushing her fingertips across Aurora's Pokeball, she kept an eye out for anything.
Arthur stood on his usual perch on her shoulder. Her journey was helping her confidence; he knew that. She'd even spoken for the first time in a long time. Maybe if they kept going, she'd be able to speak normally again like she used to.

A Pokémon was snuffling about, happy that spring was very nearly here. It was a lot easier to find food now, but still a little cold and wintery, and food was still in decline. Still, this Pokémon was optimistic and looked on the bright side. Things were better than they had been, and would continue to get better. It moved on, hearing footsteps. Oh! Someone was coming. It sound like a human. Almost all the humans who came down here were trainers, coordinators, breeders or rangers! A ranger wouldn't be so bad, but the other three might catch it.
Then again, looking again on the bright side, it would be good to have a chat, some company. Even if they caught it, it wouldn't be so bad. It let Abby come close, and was in sight- a Bidoof. It smiled welcomingly at the girl. Hey, maybe she would catch it. After all, Bidoof like itself weren't exactly popular. ~Hello, there!~ the Bidoof greeted cheerily.

Abby smiled as she caught sight of the Bidoof. "Wow... so cute!" she commented to Arthur.
"I agree," Arthur remarked right back. "Hello to you too," he greeted in her place.

Bidoof was glad that the trainer and Pokémon seemed happy to see it. Good, it liked making people happy. It was spring, after all! Spring, a time where everything was new and fresh and bright! Arthur seemed to be doing most of the talking, which Bidoof thought was a bit strange. Hey, whatever. Maybe Abby wasn't a talker, or something. Bidoof would respect whatever it was. ~So, how are you? What are you up to this fine day? Are you looking for Pokémon or something? 'Cos I'm a Pokémon. If you want a battle, I'll give you one!~ the bright, overly-cheerful Bidoof said, knowing Arthur would be able to translate.

"We're not really up to much, just travelling and trying to get to the next town at this point. But if you really want a battle, I'm sure Abby would accept, right?" Arthur pressured, looking at her.
Abby smiled and nodded. "I don't think Razor would be a good choice, seeing as I just caught him and he seems a bit difficult. Sunny and Moon are a bit tired right now. I'm going to take a chance with Aurora," she decided. She took the Pokeball from her belt and released the large shiny Pokemon.
"Well, she's accepted."

Bidoof was glad Abby had accepted the battle, but unsure why it was Arthur and not her saying the most. In fact, it hadn't heard Abby utter a single word! This puzzled it, and it cocked its head to one side like a dog, confused. ~Why is your human not saying anything?~ it finally asked, understanding if Arthur thought that was a rude question, but it really wanted to know that. It was just one of those things it knew would keep bugging it afterward unless it found out the answer.
Abby then released a Pokémon from its Pokémon, of course wordlessly. Bidoof watched as a shiny Lapras emerged. Wow, a shiny Lapras! Abby sure was lucky! The Bidoof looked at Aurora, studying her carefully. She looked like she'd definately not been with her trainer very long, which was good since it meant that she would be less experienced and more likely to disobey. Bidoof started off with its first move, charging at Aurora in a Tackle attack.

Arthur nodded slightly, understanding Bidoof's curiousity. "Abby stopped talking when she was six," she explained. "If I knew why she still wasn't speaking now, I'd do something about it."
Aurora, unable to dodge due to her size, took the hit. Abby winced, but made her choice carefully. "Aurora, use Sing!" Arthur ordered, Abby covering her ears.
Aurora nodded, took a deep breath, and let the soft notes of her song drift through the air.

Bidoof nodded, listening a little further as Arthur ordered a Sing for Abby. Sing? The cute chubby Pokémon might not be the smartest in the world, but it did know what that move did. Sing would make it fall asleep, something it definately wanted to avoid. It sat down, reaching up with its front paws to cover its ears. It just managed to reach, the fat paws sealing them nicely and meaning Aurora's attack merely made it yawn, feeling a little sleepy. It would be a little slower than usual, but not asleep.
Bidoof made a little grunty noise, getting ready for an attack of its own. It wasn't hard to pick, considering it only knew one offensive move. That was the basic move that was a Tackle attack. A simple and plain attack, just right for the lovely simple and plain Pokémon Bidoof was. The beaver charged at the Skitty, hoping for a hit.

Another hit, though a bit weaker than the last, connected with Aurora. Abby wasn't too worried; that Sing seemed to make it a bit tired. Now was her chance to strike.
"Use Water Gun!" Aurora obeyed and let the jet of water fire at the small Pokemon.
That was when Abby noticed the bag. Curious, she took her eyes away for a moment to get a better look. A card on the outside had it adressed to her. A gift from her aunt! How thoughtful of her!
Opening the bag, she found some berry juice and a Pokeball. She wanted to find out what was inside, but she figured that she should wait until after the battle to do that.
