Mizuki tried to ignore any strange looks she got as she finally took her first few steps into the town. It was nice, she'd admit. It seemed very peaceful and relaxing. But she didn't come for relaxation. First things first, she needed to make sure her Pokemon were in the right shape for the battle.
Luckily for her, the Pokemon Centre was close by. Her tail twitched slightly in her anxiety; usually she tried to avoid places like this. It was for the good of her Pokemon, she assured herself.
She took a deep breath to calm herself before knocking.

The door opened as Mizuki knocked, the blue tinted glass swinging open easily to admit her inside the Pokémon Centre. After all, it wasn't like the lab where Pine would serve one person at a time. A lot of people were in the Pokémon Centre, and they weren't just getting healed- some were chatting, showing off their Pokémon, others were practicing moves or coordinated combinations, while others battled. It was one of those places like the Pokémart or the gym, where you just walked in whenever.
No one seemed to take any notice that Mizuki had entered the large building, so obviously she hadn't done anything wrong. The line to the counter where one could have their Pokémon healed by the Nurse Joy currently taking their shift was a short one, so the girl wouldn't have to be in here very long. If she joined it now, she would be at the front in no time, then be able to leave and challenge the gym or whatever without difficulty.

Mizuki suddenly felt uncertain. She'd never been in the same room with a lot of people before. She kept up her tough front, but her insecurity made it to Karasu.
"It'll be okay," he whispered. "In a public place like this, no one will have any opportunity to judge you. Besides, your Pokemon need you to do this."
Mizuki knew that he was right. Taking a quick breath, she took her place at the back of the line.

The line moved quickly, leaving Mizuki at the front of it fairly quickly. Nurse Joy glanced up at her as the previous person walked off. The nurse wore her usual friendly smile, her Hoppip daemon bearing a similar expression. She treated Mizuki like any other customer, speaking how she usually did. She loved this job, but sometimes it was hard to understand why since she was so repetative. Unless, of course, the trainer said something different, in which case she'd answer questions and whatnot. "Hello, and welcome to the Pokémon Center. We can heal your Pokémon to full health. Would you like me to heal your Pokémon?" she asked.

"Yes; thank you," Mizuki answered firmly. She removed the six Pokeballs containing her Pokemon team and passed them to her. She was a bit worried about giving her Pokemon to a complete stranger, but she knew that this person would help them recover from their injuries. She needed her Pokemon in top form if she was going to challenge the gym, after all.

Nurse Joy nodded as she took the Pokéballs, slotting them into the machine. Said machine bleeped and flashed, indicating that it was healing the Pokémon inside. It didn't take long for it to finish healing, and Joy took them out quickly and handed them to Mizuki. No-one else was in the line, so she was able to give the trainer a little advice about the gym leader; she looked the sort who would be challenging her. "Elika, the gym leader, had level 13 and 14 Pokémon, so you'd better look out and make sure your Pokémon are strong enough. It's also best to play with types; Fire, Ice and Flying types will be useful. Thanks for using the Pokémon Center, we hope to see you again!" she winked at Mizuki.

"Thank you very much," Mizuki said respectfully, bowing. So her hunch was correct; a Grass-type gym lay ahead. Luckily, she had given two Rare Candies that she had found to Pidgey and Vulpix just in case. She took her Pokeballs, turned around and moved away from the desk towards the doors.
She felt a bit nervous about the upcoming battle. This would be her first time going up against another trainer. She hadn't actually run into any while she was travelling. Maybe a bit more practice was in order...

Lucky for Mizuki, one of the trainers in the Pokémon Center had noticed how nervous she looked. He moved over, his Snubbull daemon giving the girl a friendly look from where she clung to his shoulder. He grinned at her, standing between her and the doors. "I know that look; it's the look of a trainer before their first gym battle. One who doesn't feel they have enough experience." he smiled at her, hoping his thoughts had been correct. If not, it might be a tad embarassing.
"So, what'cha say? Fancy a little practice? You and me, one-on-one on the battle ground over there?" he offered, gesturing to the room set aside for trainers where lines of battle were painted. It was soundproofed so not to disturb any sick Pokémon, but trainers could be seen fighting inside.

"You're right about that," Karasu admitted. Mizuki gave her daemon a slight glare out of the corner of her eye. She was nervous, sure, but she didn't want the whole world knowing it!
"I believe that would be a good idea," she admitted. "Thank you," she added, remembering her manners. Her first battle against another trainer; this would be another important step on her journey.

The trainer smiled as she agreed. "Great!" he exclaimed, then remembered something with a start. "Oh, sorry, I forgot to introduce myself! My name's Dan, and my daemon is called Lara." he said, a little late. Anyway, there was a battle to fight! The boy moved over to the battle room, opening the door and leading the way inside. He was pretty excited about this, to be honest. He took his place on one end of the battle lines, facing Mizuki.
Dan ran a finger along the five Pokéballs at his belt, wondering which one he should choose right now. Maybe... yes, why not? His starter, the most loyal Pokémon on his team. He pulled out the Pokéball and enlarged it, then proceeded to throw it. This released a Torchic, who stood proudly in the battle arena, pleased to be fighting. "Fai, I know we can do this." he encouraged the Fire type, who nodded with a smile in response.

"Mizuki," she greeted in return. "And this is Karasu," she continued, indicating the Murkrow. She watched closely as he made his choice. A Torchic... interesting.
She removed a Pokeball from her belt and released her Drifloon. "I'm counting on you," she said simply. "Open with Constrict." Drifloon moved quickly, arms ready to grab.

Fai the Torchic was pleased that her opponent was just heading straight into the battle. That was good, it meant less boring chitchat before the battle. Drifloon's Constrict struck, squeezing her. Ouch, that was kind of painful. She winced, but of course it wasn't that strong an attack so she was all right for the most part. When the arms moved away, Fai darted backwards. Dan frowned. Hm, Drifloon were part Ghost types, weren't they? That meant that Fai's Scratch, a Normal type attack, would do nothing on him. "Use Ember!" he called.
Fai smiled. She'd be happy to obey; she really wanted to win this battle. This was because she was only on level 12, two levels behind the gym leader. Even Pokémon with levels higher than the gym leader had been known to loose, so she knew it would be best to be at least the same level. The Torchic felt that now, she wouldn't stand much of a chance. Anyway, this current battle would be easier. She sent an Ember Drifloon's way, watching the flames shoot towards the Pokémon.

"Dodge," Mizuki warned. That agility training he had done with Pidgey was really helping him out. He was able to push himself to the side quickly enough to dodge the flames.
"Astonish," she ordered, not leaving an opening. Drifloon got ready and...
"Boo!"

Dan gritted his teeth as he saw Fai be hit by the attack since the Torchic hadn't been aware that Drifloon had been attacking until it hit her, the Astonish startling her as the name of the attack suggested it would. Fai snarled in pain, but this was only the second turn of the battle and she was still in good shape. Dan was disappointed that the Ember had been dodged, but he could keep trying, right? "Another Ember- from close up this time!"[\b] he called. Fai obeyed, not waiting for Drifloon to move away before the Fire type breathed in and out, spewing a mass of damaging flames in an Ember as she did so.

Mizuki winced as she heard Drifloon cry out in pain. What to do now? She needed to come up with something to do quickly, or she'd lose. "Constrict again," she ordered.
Drifloon shook off the pain from the flames and rushed at the Torchic again, spindly arms ready to grab and squeeze.
