Route One was a picture perfect place in Melody's mind. The path was clearly marked and smooth, and the trees offered just the right amount of shade. She walked along, humming to herself while Devieth walked sedately at her side. In her arms she carried her newly acquired Shinx, stroking him fondly. Shinx was content to let her do so. He looked around, watching the route for any sign of trouble as she ran her fingers through his unusual yellow fur.
"Just wait Shinx." Melody said, beaming down at him. "We're going to meet so many other pokemon." Shinx's ear twitched in acknowledgment, but his eyes never strayed from the brush at the edge of the path.

A little rustle came from the bush around the edge of the path. Huh? No... it must have just been the wind, surely. Another rustle, and a... giggle? Since when did bushes laugh? A little pair of eyes appeared; all right, this was strange. A talking bush with eyes? That was... unsettlingly weird. It shook more violently as the eyes disappeared. Then all was explained.
~Buneary!~[/color] the rabbit called as she leapt as high as she could- very high indeed- out of the bush, which instantly became lifeless once more. The Buneary landed neatly, looking at Melody with a smile on her face. Then her ears twitched before flicking back, and the Buneary moved to all fours, where she hissed and snarled, but wasn't very sucessful in looking fierce, despite her efforts. She bared her buck teeth; this was a pose that said 'I want to fight'.[/size]

Shinx was the first one to notice the eyes. He caught Melody's attention by brushing his tail across her face and growling softly at the abnormal bush. The traveling trio all jumped backward when the Buneary leapt into the open. "Oh, how cute!" Melody squealed when she saw the little pokemon.
Devieth rolled his eyes. "It looks like she wants to fight, not be cosseted." Shinx squirmed in Melody's arms, snarling a challenge back at Buneary.
"Oh, alright." Melody let him go. He landed and instantly assumed a fighting pose, poised to spring, listening for directions from Melody. The girl paused to flip her hair off her shoulders, composing herself into battle mode. "Shinx," she called, her voice full of authority, "Let's start with a Tackle attack." Shinx obeyed, launching himself at Buneary with a yowl.

Buneary looked at the Shinx, quickly running through her moveset to find the most suitable one for her. Hm... Splash... definately not, she couldn't remember ever using that one. Defense Curl... useful, but she wanted an attack. That ruled out Foresight as well, leaving only Pound. Well, Pound it was then; her most often used attack. Buneary grinned as she had settled on a move. She would win with this! Yeah! Buneary was now all psyched up, ready for action.
As Shinx neared, the rabbit Pokémon readied herself, preparing for pain and victory. She doubted she would defeat Shinx right now, but perhaps after a few attacks or something... this was an optimist, of course. The optimist grinned as Shinx was almost upon her, lashing out with a long ear in a furious Pound just as impact was made and pain shot across her body. She landed on the ground, looking up to see what damage she had done.

Shinx was unprepared for Buneary to respond so quickly. He had been reveling in the success of his first attack, only to be slammed sideways as the little pokemon's ears crashed into him. He shook his head and climbed back to his feet, now more wary of Buneary.
"It's okay Shinx. You can do it! Try using a.... um a...." Melody paused as she tried to remember what moves her pokemon had. One long finger crept up and hovered near her lips while she gently chewed her nail. "Oh! Use thunder fang." Shinx responded and lashed out the attack at Buneary, this time bracing himself for the counter-attack immediately after.

Buneary gritted her teeth as she watched the oncoming Shinx approach. This might not be good... she could see the crackling light begin to form around his teeth. She watched as his jaw opened wide to acomodate her. He seemed to be aiming for an ear, perhaps to disable her from attacking. Well, she wouldn't go down that easily! Nope, never! Her ears were so strong, they would be able to withstand... um... well, anything, of course! The rabbit Pokémon had an idea.
As Shinx grew even nearer, Buneary pulled her ear back, then smacked it forwards in a Pound attack at Shinx's open jaw. This, of course, would cause Shinx pain, but Buneary didn't take into account that the Thunder Fang had just been made easier; electronically charged pointed teeth dug into her ear, making her shriek.

Shinx's vision went grey as the Pound attack struck him full force in the mouth. While stars flickered inside his head, he instinctively chomped down on the limb that was now conveniently inside his jaws. He felt the electricity that had been building in his body surge through his teeth, helping to clear his head. Giving Bunneary a quick shake for good measure, Shinx released her ear and sprang backward, putting some distance between. He ran his tonge over his teeth several times to make sure they were all still intact. His head still throbbed from the rabbit pokemon's attacks, but he figured he still had at least one more good attack in him. Shinx assumed his 'ready' pose once more as Melody called "Give her another strong Tackle!"

Buneary tensed her muscles. She looked at her long, powerful back paws. They were designed to be like a makeshift trampoline, the large surface area helping her gain a better and higher leap. The rabbit Pokémon glared at Shinx, teeth bared, face disfigured in an ugly snarl. The Pokémon didn't look quite as cute now; she actually had succeeded in looking rather frightening and visous. The Normal type crouched lower to give her a more powerful jump when it came.
As Shinx came in with that Tackle, Buneary pushed and kicked hard off the ground, shooting into the air at full force. With the Tackle attack missed, Buneary's only problem now lay with the landing. Pelting into the sky also meant pelting down to earth again after a little bit. She straightened out her legs ready to bend them when needed, and angled her ears to help her. She made a smooth landing, and curled into a ball. This was a Defense Curl, and would raise her Defense stat.
