Jax worked his neck as he looked at the gym. "We can't challenge this gym," he said frankly, sighing, We're not strong enough yet." "I'm afraid so," Gareth said with a sigh, as Furnblaze nodded unhappily. Jax shrugged, and moved towards the Pokemon Centre.
As the door opened, he smiled at Nurse Joy. "Greetings," he said pleasantly, "You are, of course, Nurse Joy. I've met one of your sisters... or cousins... And now I've just confused myself," he finished with a laugh.

ooc// You could always just use the Training Center to train up your Pokémon, then you wouldn't be constantly unable to beat gyms. Best do it as soon as possible so it is doesn't keep getting harder and harder, yeah?
ic// Nurse Joy didn't seem to register what Jaxamar was saying, keeping on her usual slightly creepy, slightly fake smile. Her daemon, a Blissey, was fully aware, of course. ~We're all related, mostly. A family business, see?~ he explained kindly. Joy spoke then. "Welcome to the Pokémon Center. We can heal your Pokémon to full health. Would you like us to heal your Pokémon?" she asked. The daemon rolled his eyes. ~Don't worry, she's just a bit tired of work at the moment. Trust me, off the job she's lively as anything.~ he said, clearly a bit fed up with the fact that Nurse Joys stuck to the same words unless asked a question.

"Don't worry," Jax said, shaking his head, "My Pokemon are all in good health. My Duskull is a little tired, but it's nothing a good night's sleep won't fix." A second after he'd finished speaking, he suddenly hissed in pain, and gripped his right wrist; a burning sensation had started there, and had suddenly also appeared on his left wrist, which Gareth wrapped himself around to provide the pressure, which helped relieve the sensation... somewhat. "Jax!" Furnblaze exclaimed, jumping so that his front paws rested on his leg, "What's wrong?" "This," Jax ground out, his eyes sharpening into the feral gleam Furnblaze had seen only once, and recently, out in the desert, "Has not happened before."
(OOC* the "feral gleam" is an involuntary reaction; Jax is accessing the bestial strength inherent to him because of his blended DNA)

Nurse Joy gasped as Jaxamar gripped his wrists in pain, his daemon trying to help. That was good of Gareth; as Jax's daemon, he would be feeling pain too. The Nurse had to keep caring for other Pokémon, and there was a moment when no-one dared approach the pain-ridden Pokémorph. A few moments later, however, a man in his early thirties stepped forward. His hair was dark beneath his explorer's hat, his skin tanned a little. His daemon took the form of a Sandslash.
"Boy, are you all right?!" he asked in a powerful, authoritative voice. He sounded like a strong person. He grabbed hold of Jax, offering support as pain would make people weaken, and possibly limit Jax's ability to stand up. "Do you have any idea as to what's going on?" he asked, worry in his eyes. All eyes were on Jax and the mystery man, although a large number of the people in the room seemed to know who the stranger was.

Jax flexed his free right hand. "I think so," he said eventually, "My head hurts and my wrists feel like someone's trying to take them off with a plasma cutter. But otherwise, I'm just peachy." "It can't be a reaction to using your powers," Gareth said, "Not even a delayed one. On all the other times you have used your abilities, this has not happened." "I did hit that machine with my fist," Jax said, "And the machine sorta... I dunno. It messed with my head."

The stranger nodded, concerned still. So, something had happened to this 'morph involving a machine? He wondered how it could have done this. Maybe it was some sort of radiation messing with the guy's already messed up DNA or something. He was no expert. "Oh, I never did introduce myself, did I? I'm Twam, the gym leader here. What's your name? As the gym leader, I know this place pretty well. Would you like me to take you to the hospital? I'm sure they'll figure something out there." he offered.

Jax's wrist abruptly ignited, and he quickly pulled his other hand away, as Gareth hurriedly slithered down his arm. "I'm not sure they'll be able to do much," he said, hissing quietly. After several moments, the flames guttered out again. He turned his head slowly to either side as his eyes returned to normal... and then blurred as he suddenly slumped in exhaustion.
"I'm... OK," he said, breathing steadily and deeply, "Just... just very tired..."

Twam nodded. Hm, what had just happened was quite a mystery. He looked at Jax, hiding his shock at the flames quite well. The Blaziken 'morph claimed to be all right but tired. OK, he could believe that, he was fairly sure of it. Perhaps it would be a good idea to locate the source of the problem. His daemon's prickles had raised in his fright, but were now lowering again as he calmed down. "What do you think caused this? You been exposed to radiation, or do you think whoever 'morphed you set this kind of thing to happen like a time bomb?"

"More likely it was neither," Gareth said, twitching his little snout at the other daemon, "instead a reaction to the mind of the one powering the machine." "Yes," Jax said, eyes narrowing, and his wrist heating to steaming again, "him." "Calm, Jax, calm," Gareth said quietly, and Jax took a deep breath, forcing his wrists to cool down.

Twam nodded. If it had only been a tempory reaction, hopefully it would bother Jax too much any more. He was very curious about this machine and whether one might affect Jax again, but didn't ask. "I'd challenge you to a battle, but most people prefer to come to me. If you feel you're strong enough, I'll be in my gym. After, you need all eight badges to be able to challenge the league." he said smiling, before heading back to his gym. Another guy stepped forward, this time just a random trainer. He looked a little obnoxious. "You don't even look strong enough for the first gym! Tell you what, if you feel you're strong enough and defeat me, I'll give you a free lift back to Silav town." this was a good offer, and would get Jax one of the badges needed to fight the league. All he needed to do was to train at the training center.

"I didn't beat the first gym," Jax admitted freely. After a moment he stood up straight. "You're on," he continued, pulling his gauntlets from his pack and sliding them on, "And while I might not have a Gym Badge yet, I do have something you don't. I'll let you know that that is at the end of the battle. But first off... Battle format. I say, double battle, four on four."

"Me? Battle you? Hardly." the man said with a hint of amusement in his voice. "I've beaten Elika, and you look like all your Pokemon are level fives or sevens. Just trying to help you win, here. I reckon you'd want at least level twelve Pokemon. If I were you, I'd head over to the Training Center or Daycare Center right away. Ur... You do know how to do that, don't you?" he asked, offering to explain the two places to Jax if he didn't know. After all, as obnoxious as he was, he didn't want this trainer to start failing at everything as everything got stronger and he didn't.

"All right then," Jax said, staring into the other trainer's eyes for several moments, "We'll battle later. But the rules are the same. At the least..." He flexed his hands here, then nodded. "How long?" he said, eyeing the human.

The man smiled, then looked a little confused. "How long til what? Ah, whatever. Look kid, I can take you to the Training Center if you can't do it yourself. I really need a battle, and want to help trainers who are falling behind earn their badges." he offered, seeming to be a kind person. He hated the idea that somobe could fail the league challenge, and wanted to help.

"I can find it," Jax said, waving a hand, "but first I need a night's sleep. I'm drawing on my last reserves as it is."
Furnblaze blinked a few times, then followed his trainer as he sat down wearily on one of the benches.
