► Back into the hot sun. Ajax felt tempted to throw himself down in the shade under one of the inviting trees that hung over the sides of the Route, but he forced himself to keep going, his wings working so quickly that he seemed to be emitting a high-pitched hum. Beside him, Nyx stayed in her Ninetales form that she had visited the Laboratory in; since she was a Fire-type, she would be coping far better with the heat. On the other hand, Ajax’s steel claw was getting uncomfortably hot. He looked at the Pokeball with his starter in it, the shiny Torchic. The Pokemon hadn’t been too friendly with him in the lab, and in truth he had wanted to get the normal Torchic or Bagon, since they looked like they would actually be motivated to fight. He snuck a side glance at Nyx; her expression was the same guarded one as ever. I know she wanted me to get you, he thought, but I really just can’t see why.
Well, he might as well give this whole Pokemon journey thing a shot. He tossed the Pokeball out, catching it as it bounced back to him and watching the flash of red light. « ► The Torchic that appeared was practically gleaming, her already-shiny feathers seeming to shimmer violently in the sunlight. ”…” She watched Ajax without saying or doing anything, her feathers lifting to let in the relaxing heat. This continued for a few moments until she chirruped, turning her back on him. He was really not what she would have wanted for a Trainer—he looked rather barbaric, what with his spiky red hair, earring, and enormous claw. ”Well, looks like we’re stuck together,” she said after a while. Tilting her head to the side, she considered asking to be put back in her Pokeball. She liked it more in there; she wouldn’t have to interact with him, and it was cozy inside the little sphere. Nevertheless, it was warm out here. She gave into the desire for the sun, and lifted her feathers again, looking quite adorable to the outsider as she scanned Route One. The shining Torchic couldn’t deny to herself that she was curious about Route One and the life outside the dithering Lab, but she hadn’t imagined that she would be with someone as clearly as incompetent as her trainer now. « ► ”Hey,” Ajax said, feeling somewhat hurt as his Pokemon turned her back stiffly on him. ”Look, I know you don’t really care for me, but you’re here, okay? Please. I need you to get as strong as you can quickly. I’m going to name you Styl, which means ‘lively’ from the ancient texts where I come from.” He clacked his claw with anxiousness, watching the newly named Styl closely. ”Let’s try to give it all we have, okay?” He turned to look at Nyx, grinding his teeth audibly. Really, why? Looking back down at the ground, he noticed another Pokeball fastened to his chain belt. That was strange. He unclipped it, hefting it in his hand—definitely a Pokemon inside. Wondering what in the world it could be, he tossed the Pokeball, causing Styl to jump aside with surprise, letting loose an involuntary Growl of surprise. « ► Another flash of red light, and another Pokemon. Nyx’s ears perked, startled. This one hadn’t been in the book that Pine had loaned to her, for sure. It was a small lizard-like creature, its scales snowy-icy blue color that contrasted starkly with both Styl’s gold feathers and the green tall grass surrounding it. Immediately it spun around, looking about desperately. It seemed to be uncomfortable in the heat. Spotting Ajax, it walked right up to him, staring up at him with amber colored eyes. ”Where am I? You are my trainer, right?” it said in an unmistakably female voice, blinking its long black eyelashes. « ► Nyx raised her brows, flicking aside the tuft of hair atop her head. ”Scilde,” she said, giving the ice lizard a small smile of encouragement—the first smile of the day. ”Beautiful. I don’t know how you got here as well, but you’re certainly an odd find. We’ll welcome you to the team any day.” She flicked her tails, pleased, and allowed her gaze to rest once on Styl (whose eyes were narrowed) before scanning the rest of the Route, ready for the odd Pokemon that might jump out. « [/blockquote]

As Ajax and Nyx introduced themelves to their Pokemon, clouds passed overhead and it grew to the usual cooltemperatures of spring slowly; this was a good thing, since the Pokemon that had been watching them definately didn't want to fight in the previously abnormaly warm day. Its tail gave a gentle wiggle, pleased as the clouds made it cooler but looking up fearfully; it now hoped it wouldn't rain or cause a storm or anything. That would definately be bad. The Pokemon smiled as it watched how the Totchic seemed uninterested in his trainer, while the Ceilo seemed quite friendly.
Maybe he would like to battle this group? Yes, he was confident of that feeling, but wasn't entirely sure how to go about requesting it. The Pokemon, in the end, took in a deep breath, gathered up his courage and stepped out of hiding. Yes, he could do this. He knew he could! Revealing himself to be a Pachirisu, he smiled nervously at Ajax, eyes flickering to Styl and back. He smiled more confidently now, and spoke, knowing that as a Pokemorph Ajax would probably understand him. ~Hi... Could I perhaps ask for a battle?~
he requested hopefully.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

► Styl watched the Cielo resentfully as she came out of her Pokeball. She had to admit, the pale scales were pretty; and so the Torchic became slightly irritated with her competition, fluttering her own feathers self-consciously. She flexed her tiny claws, uprooting a few pieces of grass as she did so. "Yeah, yeah," she commented offhandedly to Ajax, turning her beak snobbishly to one side. The sun seemed to be leaving, and her annoyance only increased as the harsh glare of the sunlight gradually vanished. Striding a little ahead of the group, she led the way through Route One, determined not to look back and face dæmon or Pokemorph. «
► In contrast, Scilde was thoroughly enjoying the change in temperature. It was still somewhat warm for her liking, but that couldn't really be helped. More importantly were the smells and the sights! She tilted her head as Nyx named her, waving her tail back and forth in happy acceptance of her new name. Scuttling back to where Nyx was, she gave the Ninetales dæmon a big sniff, watching her with large eyes before moving onto Ajax, even going so far as to stand on her hind feet, leaning on Ajax’s leg and rubbing her chin on his claw. Ajax froze, a little startled as she did this, wincing as he felt the cold from her freezing claws. ”Name, trainer?” «
► ”I’m Ajax,” he declared, putting a hand on his chest to indicate himself. ”My dæmon’s name is Nyx.” He gently took one of the Cielo’s paws in his claw, lowering her back to the ground. ”Your claws are so cold!” he explained, stating the obvious. A sudden rustle in the bushes alerted him, and he turned around, seeing Pachirisu in the middle of the path. He did indeed understand the Pokemon’s speech. ”Battle? Okay!” Ajax agreed readily, eager to try being the tactician instead of the fighter for the first time (Nyx, sensing this, both smiled in support and snorted in derision to herself, although as usual her outer facial expression remained faintly amused). The Scizor ‘morph looked over at Styl. ”Do you want to battle, Styl? Since you’re my starter and all,” he offered in a nonchalant tone, wondering when he’d start to get angry at the Torchic’s noncompliance. ”Don’t worry, Scilde, you’ll get your chance next time.” «
► Styl tossed her head, the downy baby crown of feathers bouncing. Well, she didn’t care for Ajax, but she did want to fight. Pretending to deliberate over the decision, she threw a show of hemming and hawing for a few moments, finally saying, ”Oh, well, fine I suppose, but you owe me one.” Stepping closer to Parchirisu, she eyed the squirrel coolly and lowered her weight in a battle stance, fluffing her feathers—this time, to intimidate. Her tone was slightly mocking as she remarked, ”Go on, give it your best shot.” Ajax opened his mouth, about to tell Styl off for being so mean to the clearly more timid electric squirrel Pokemon, then seemed to think again and shut it, looking a little angry but pleased all the same that Styl had agreed to fight. «

Birdy//♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥Pachirisu nodded, his look turning to one of determination as he faced his new opponent. Right, a battle. He was fighting Styl, this shiny Torchic right in front of him. The squirrel could do this. He didn't have much experience in battling, but then again, by the looks of him, neither did Styl; it seemed that this would be Ajax's first battle as a trainer. The Pachirisu smiled, a little nervous but mostly pleased and excited about battling. He would probably do well and have fun, even if he didn't win.
Well, Styl wasn't attacking, so Pachirisu assumed that he could have the first move of the battle. What to use... well, his only offensive moves right now were Bide and Quick Attack. Since Bide was quite a risky move in which damage would be avoided by the opponent not attacking, he would use a Quick Attack for now. Pachirisu bounced a little on his heels, preparing himself for the burst of speed he was about to put on. The Electric type squirrel Pokémon then took a deep breath and started the battle by racing towards Styl the shiny Torchic in a surprisingly speedy Quick Attack.

► Ajax gave a tiny startled gasp as the Pachirisu made its move, flying on its feet towards Styl as it executed the Quick Attack. He realized he would have to think about strategy outside of battle first, since everything seemed to be unfolding just so darn fast. Had he been in the situation himself, having a Quick Attack streaking towards him, he would easily been able to dodge, due to instinct and years of practice. But seeing it in the arena, he had little idea what to do. By the time he had cried out, ”Quick, Styl, dodge!” the electric squirrel was too close to the shiny Torchic—either she had moved of her own accord, or she would have been hit. «
► In fact, Styl had moved aside, sidestepping in a blinding movement. The battle stance she had taken up earlier hadn’t been all for show, and she had learned from watching other Pokemon play-fighting at the Lab that keeping on her toes allowed her more speed, as well as keeping her weight low to help her balance. Not to mention she was already fairly speedy, being a Torchic. Heh. Not so bad, huh? Clicking her small beak with satisfaction, she whirled around as Ajax yelled, ”Styl, fast! Scratch before it can collect itself!” Speedily, she leapt towards Pachirisu, hoping with her Trainer to catch it in its unawares since it had just finished its own attack and extending her small talons as she did so in what would be a painful Scratch attack. «
► As this all took place, Ajax thought furiously, although he flushed with pleasure as Styl dodged seamlessly, obeying quickly to his command. For all her uncaring attitude, she had a lot of promise. This way, I can beat the League fast, he thought happily, his claw clenched tightly with excitement. Perhaps he should try to have Styl Growl, too, for good measure. He raised his claw, about to call out the command when one of Nyx’s tails brushed his side, and he stopped, confused. «
► ”It’s better if that Pachirisu keeps its Attack up,” Nyx said quietly so the two fighting Pokemon couldn’t hear. Scilde inched closer to trainer and dæmon, murring curiously, and Nyx continued, explaining in barely a murmur, ”Styl came with a move called Counter when we got her from the Lab, and I remember it from fighting back at home. The more damage she gets, the better it’ll be.” The stone-faced Ninetales fell back into stony silence, remembering the last time that attack had been used on her—it had been quite devastating when used properly, from what she recalled. «

Birdy//♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥Pachirisu growled in annoyance as Styl sidestepped just in time, the squirrel actually feeling the Torchic's feathers brushing against his face as he rushed past. Dang it, he'd missed! The Electric type looked angry, but calmed to focus on the oncoming Scratch attack. No, he definately did not want to be hit by that. The Pachirisu attempted to dodge, but failed, ending up on the ground with a painful attack having just been dealt on him. He hissed, glaring at Styl with great fury.
How dare that little shiny Torchic dodge and hit in the same turn?! Pachirisu was furious, but, remembering something another Pokémon had said once about not letting anger get the better of you, took several deep breaths. There, that was good. Now he was more focused, so he would be able to perform better this battle. The Pachirisu locked his eyes on Styl, completely concentrating on the battle. Nothing could distract him now, and there was no way he was going to let anything get in the way of him and hitting the Fire type chicken. The squirrel then sprang, moving in an even faster Quick Attack than before.

►Styl tapped her claws impudently as she saw the Pachirisu getting angry. That’s right. Work yourself into a tizzy,
she thought, lowering herself into the same battle stance that she had started the fight with. Ooooh, another Quick Attack. Ready, she tried shifting aside in the same quick sidestepping movement she had used to dodge the Pachirisu’s attack earlier. As she did so, she felt the squirrel’s shoulder jamming painfully into her side—a definite hit. The blow sent her stumbling backward and her eyes widened slightly, taken aback by the extra burst of speed from her opponent. No way! I misjudged! Gingerly, she rolled away so if he tried another attack, she’d be able to get away in time and she got up, fluffing out her fur again angrily, her side aching. « ► Ajax, entranced with the battle, gasped more audibly himself as he saw Styl hit by the Quick Attack. Well, if nothing else, now would be the time to try what Nyx had just suggested. He glanced at her for a second, and as she gave an affirmative nod, he called out, ”Okay, Styl, let’s hit back! Use Counter!” His voice rang clear and strong, causing Scilde to look up from the piece of grass she was freezing with her claws. Now I’ll be able to see how strong Counter really is! « ► Huh, Counter? The shiny Torchic wasn’t exactly sure how to do it, but she did know the move, somehow. And she did want payback— double payback. Blinking briefly, she remembered the pain she had experienced as she had stumbled away earlier from the Quick Attack and she walked a little closer to Pachirisu, the orange crown of feathers at the top of her head erect. Without hesitation, she abruptly streaked forward, feinting one way and then twisting around to fly at the electric squirrel feet first, hoping to slam him into the ground with Counter for twice the damage done to her. « [/blockquote][/blockquote]

Birdy//♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥Pachirisu might have been expected to be a little afraid of the Counter, as most Pokémon would have been, but instead the squirrel smiled. That generally wasn't a good thing- your opponent smiling at the face of an incredibly powerful move. This meant that the Electric type probably had a trick up his sleeve. In actual fact, he did. He'd been waiting for this moment ever since he'd heard Ajax mention how Styl knew Counter as an egg move.
Shortly before Styl's Counter struck, Pachirisu screwed up his face in effort as he curled up, bracing himself for the attack he knew Styl would attack him with. The squirrel's body began to glow dully, and as he screeched in pain from the Counter, the glow brightened. What? Pachirisu couldn't evolve... that must mean that this was Bide attack. Oh dear; the Counter had just boosted the power of the Bide, which would in a few turns send it back at Styl with double power- four times the original Quick Attack. Bide was a move that always hit, too, so Styl had to try and defeat Pachirisu quickly or she could be in trouble.

► Styl grinned with satisfaction as she pummeled Pachirisu into the ground, grunting a bit from the effort. But—what was that glowing? And why had he grinned at the last second? This wasn’t good. Ajax, watching the battle, stiffened, and Nyx’s ears twitched with alarm. Both of them had recognized the Bide. Swinging his claw angrily at the ground and tearing off quite a good chunk from the earth, he flung it in the other direction, his left hand clenching as he tried to control his anger, but before he could say anything, Nyx whapped him in the side with one of her tails. ”Hey, what was that for!?” he said, rounding on her. She stared straight into his eyes blankly, finally rolling them and turning back to watch the fight with a snort. Meanwhile, Styl looked around, somewhat unsure of what to do for the first time. Before Ajax could say anything, she Growled in frustration. «
► ”Well, we’re in a bit of a pickle, but that’s okay. Bide will be bad for Styl if she waits long enough, but we’ve got a good three or so turns to deal damage without interference, and that Pachirisu’s going do have to stay stock-still to charge up his attack. Which means, of course, it will be far easier to go for the critical areas. Not to mention we’ve already gotten in a couple nice hits. It shouldn’t be too bad.” She looked back at Ajax expectantly, picking up Scilde by the spines on her back and putting her down as the ice lizard tried to crawl up her front leg. «
► Ajax looked dubiously at Nyx, then turned hesitantly to face the battle. ”Okay, Styl, I want you to Growl as much as possible from now on.” He looked a little disconcerted for a moment, and then added, ”And a Scratch, right on the soft underbelly.” He felt somewhat bad for ordering Styl to go for such a sensitive spot, but then again, it would be either her or the electric squirrel going down now—and he’d get hell from both Nyx and Styl if he lost his first battle. Not to mention how he’d feel himself. «
► Styl considered, nodding, although she had already used Growl this turn. While Ajax felt bad, she certainly did not. Flashing her claws, she stepped right up to Pachirisu, hissing, ”You asked for it,” and delivering the strongest Scratch she could muster right at his stomach, using her whole small body to add to the force of the blow. «

Pachirisu had his eyes shut in concentration, but he could hear sounds which gave away his oppnent's anger. That was a good thing, if whatever he was doing was bad for his opponents, it would be good for himself. He heard the Growl all right and felt his attack stat drop just a little bit, but he wasn't so worried about that. After all, a lowered attack stat wouldn't affect the power of a move which dealt damage set by how much damage was taken rather than the user's ability. Pachirisu, being unable to see, found the next move a surprise.
The Scratch struck his underbelly, making him yell in pain. Oh sweet Arceus, that hurt. It had been unexpected, too, which didn't help. Pachirisu felt quite weak now, but could do nothing but keep up the Bide. Still, the massively charged Counter as well as the Scratch might have made the Bide most likely faint-inducing, but they had also weakened the squirrel to the extent he was wondering whether or not he'd be able to survive the next turn to unleash energy.

► Giving a little chirp in satisfaction as her Scratch was answered with the Pachirisu’s yell, Styl hopped back, Growling right in his ear, unknowing of the fact that it wouldn’t affect the Bide anyway. As she jumped back, though, she was able to get a closer look at the glow surrounding her opponent, and when she did, she bit down quickly to stifle a cry of surprise. The glow was quite prominent now—the Pachirisu’s body shone, no, radiated with bright white light. That would be quite a dangerous Bide coming her way should she not defeat him here and now. Fear began to tug at her feathers, something she had never tasted before in the well-kept lab. «
► Ajax saw the glow brighten, too. He swallowed nervously. Would he lose? Could he lose? For a moment, he was tempted to return Styl to her Pokeball and bolt. Then he thought again—how disgraceful would that be? After all, Styl had agreed to battle for him. He couldn’t fail her. And Nyx—he couldn’t fail her either. Not only that, but if winning this fight meant the first small step forward to getting back home to Léon, he’d take it and give it his all. Raising his head, his golden eyes blazed as he shouted out with pure determination, ”Styl, another Scratch! Give it everything you’ve got!” «
► Styl only fluffed her feathers in response. Not only was the icy sliver of fear creeping up on her, but also her pride. And Ajax—he sounded really desperate, for some reason. Determined, concentrated, but desperate. Taking a deep breath, she stepped forward, close to Pachirisu quietly, then leapt into the air as high as she could go, pointing her small talons straight at the back of his jaw and the front of his neck in the strongest Scratch she could muster. Survival was on the line. She must hit as hard as she could, or be bested. And there’s no way I’m going to let this lil’ squirrel show us up! «

Pachirisu was findin it harder and harder to contain the energy. Because of this, he knew that he would be unleashing it on his next move. By the way Styl and Ajax were reacting, they knew it too. The squirrel felt the pain of the Scratch, grimacing. It was hard to hold back the power, and now it was hard to keep himself from fainting. Red spots swam in the blackened vision of his closed eyes, and he felt dizzy, weak and light headed. Still, he would cling onto this battle. After all, he wasn't going to let a little chick defeat him, whatever colours her feathers were.
It seemed, however, that the shiny had still managed to get him defeated, but he had one more move left in him. He knew that now he had no choice but to let go of the Bide, but he could honestly say that he felt the effort of that would be extremely bad for him. Anyway, it wasn't as if there was any other option; the power was forcing its way out. Pachirisu gave a battle cry as his body lit up even more, streaks of light moving quickly through the air towards Styl. The was the Bide, with the power of four Scratches and four Quick Attacks. What was worse, Bide was an unmissable attack. There was some good in this; the effort used was enough to push Pachirisu over the edge and make him keel over. Whether or not the imminent Bide made Styl faint didn't matter as much; Pachirisu fainted first, so she'd won.
Pachiridu was defeated! Styl gains a level!

► The Scratch hit home, and Styl jumped back, Growling yet again. Here it was—the entire battle came down to this moment. She watched the Pachirisu with bated breath as he rocked back and forth on his feet. Would he faint? The glow was almost blinding now, and there was no choice; curling herself up as much as possible, she closed her eyes and braced herself best she could, hearing the whoosh of the attack as it arced through the air and the battle cry that the electric squirrel had let out. The sound of a small thunderclap could be heard as the Bide hit her, and she only had a couple of milliseconds to appreciate a light prickle of satisfaction as the power from her victory raised her level. Then Styl felt as if a brick wall had slammed into her, the white light sending her flying and smashing her small, downy body into the ground. Ajax yelled something, but she was unable to hear… «
► Hitting the hard dirt that had been tamped down by the footsteps of a century of Trainers who had traversed Route One, Styl lay sprawled, the gentle breeze tickling her shiny feathers. She felt numb—her throat was dry, and her talons drooped uselessly. Desperately, she held on to wakefulness. I cannot faint. I cannot faint. I cannot faint.
Clamping her beak down hard, she fought against the darkness lay in wait at the sides of her vision, using all of her effort to chase it away every time it attempted to encroach on her consciousness. Still, the shiny Torchic was fighting a losing battle—as the seconds ticked by, tumbling over one another, she felt herself slipping. Arceus…I can’t lose…now… « ► Just as her eyes blinked shut, she heard Ajax’s voice, far away. ”Yes! I got it! Styl, don’t fail me now!!!” Well, he was unimportant now. After all, the battle was over and she had won. She fainted, letting go and letting the darkness engulf her. Lying there for a few moments, she frowned—had she really fainted? That was strange. For some reason, she suddenly felt…better, her limbs coursing with new energy. Weird—she had been so tired a moment ago. Even the ache was going away as the numbness receded, and she sensed tiny droplets of moisture clinging to the tips of her feathers, soaking into her skin. Normally, she hated water, but this was enjoyable and strengthening. She had never fainted before—was fainting supposed to be energizing like this, making her want to jump up again? Her eyelids fluttered as she looked up the clear blue sky. Or rather, the blue sky that was obstructed by three large figures—Ajax’s spiked head, Nyx’s fox-like Ninetales face, and Scilde’s small, lizardlike stature, leaning over her, watching to see if she would awaken. She sat up, flexing her talons gingerly. Definitely much better—like she had never been hit by the Bide at all. « ► ”Good, I got it to you just in time!” Ajax seemed to be holding something in his claw which he was waving around with relief. Styl peered at it—upon closer inspection, it was an empty Potion bottle. It wasn’t that hard to put two and two together—Ajax had used the medicine on Styl right before she had fainted, bringing her back to good health. While the shiny Torchic was grateful, she turned away, disgusted with herself for coming so close to fainting. That won’t be happening again any time soon, she thought to herself, regaining composure and looking back at her Trainer before turning her back once more, saying nothing. « ►Ajax held her gaze, then turned away. He wasn’t really sure what Styl was thinking—she probably thought he and Nyx were stupid in the first place for using Counter, although he couldn’t deny it was a powerful move. He’d just have to use it more carefully next time. Now was a second order of business—the Pachirisu. He hadn’t really been planning on catching it at first, since it was small and weak-looking. He was also quite sure it didn’t evolve…which meant it would be small and weak for its whole life. But I’ve seen that little guy in battle, and even though he was timid at first, he was a foe not to be tarried with, Ajax decided, and he threw the Pokeball right at Pachirisu, the capsule opening and enveloping the electric squirrel in red light. Maybe he wouldn’t have to use Pachirisu much, but it was good to have such a resourceful Pokemon on the team. « Potion used.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Birdy//♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥Pachirisu saw none of the Bide's effect on Styl; he was too busy being fainted. The squirrel Pokémon felt the tap of the Pokéball, however, since the next thing he knew he was on the inside of the capture device. At first, the little Electric type was stunned at suddenly being awake but extremely weak, surrounded by odd red and white plastic walls. The Pokémon was unsure what was going on and if he was just having a weird dream, then he realised that he was inside a Pokéball.
Ajax wanted to catch him! Well, he would put up a fight! The Pachirisu snarled to himself as he hurled himself at one of the walls, making the Pokéball rock gently. He kept at it, but this was hard work and despite being breifly revived as all Pokémon are when faced with a possibilty of capture, he was still incredibly weak. He tried to keep at it, but his efforts were growing more feeble as he sank to the ground, panting. The Pokéball pinged, and he knew then that he now had a trainer.
Pachirisu was caught!

► Ajax waited, watching the Pokeball with Pachirisu in it. It rocked violently to one side; clearly, the electric squirrel was putting up a fight. ”I wonder what happens if I can’t catch him,” he muttered to himself, half-curious and half not wanting to waste a Pokeball just to see. Even so, a few seconds later, the Pokeball shook one last time, and grew still, the ceasing in movement accompanied with an audible ping. Ajax cheered, walking over and picking up the red and white capsule. ”Caught him!” Now, what to actually do with him. Ajax peered at his Pokedex, which was reading off the updated data from Pachirisu’s capture; he was at level 15, quite a powerful Pokemon to find on Route One. Shrugging, Ajax clipped the Pokeball on his belt. ”Okay guys, let’s keep going!” «
► Scilde, happy to be doing something, bounded forward, running right up to all the plants growing on the side of the Route and sniffing them eagerly, rubbing up against them and leaving little frost crystals that melted as they watched. Nyx, amused, trotted after her, straying farther from Ajax than she normally would’ve. The pull that could have been downright painful for some people was only a persistent tug that Ajax was able to ignore for five or so minutes before he decided it was somewhat annoying and jogged to keep up. He was relatively curious about what other Pokemon lived on this route. Styl trailed in the back, stopping every so often to inspect the occasional flower but usually just daintly walking around them. She was still clearly fixated on her battle, for she clenched and unclenched her claws often, scrambling the dirt around them and pulling up roots. While being out in the open was nice, she half-wanted to be in her Pokeball, irritated about being seen with the rather ragtag group. Now that the fighting was done, she was back to her apathetic, cynical self. «
