Learning the Ropes

Ace was again hit by Leer, freezing for a moment.

"Ace! Land now!" Hawk shouted, eyes wide. And his starter closed his wings, plummeting beneath the Mankey and the Scratch. Even then, the move grazed the Pidgey, injuring his wing.

"GAH!" Ace landed with a cry of pain, crashing into the ground. Getting up, he looked back at Hawk to acknowledge his silent cry of worry. "I... I'm fine... for now!" He then looked at Mankey and ran, as fast as he could right now. "TAKE THIS!" And the Pidgey jumped at the falling Mankey, aiming to hit the Fighting types side.

As Mankey was falling he decided to attack differently, he brought his foot around and aimed a kick at Ace in a Low Kick attack. He'd fall to the groun after this pass though, and if he got lucky his foot would connect with the attacking Pidgey.

The two attacks collided, knocking Ace off course. The Pidgey landed, breathing heavily. Of course, Mankey would be affected by the Tackle, and the Low Kick hadn't had much effect. After all, despite being in the air and taking some damage from a fall, Ace was fairly light, so Low Kick wouldn't do much. The Pidgey waited to see Mankey's next move, holding his injured wing close to him.

In the excitement of the battle Mankey had forgotten that Fighting moves do little damage to Flying types. But the tackle had done a bit of damage to him, and it had an unwanted effect. As Mankey had been spinning the teackle had collided with his foot, making him flip backwards, falling onto his head. Mankey had to end this quickly. He lunged forward with a Scratch Attack hoping to take the Pidgey out soon.

"Sand Attack now!" Hawk shouted suddenly, eyes narrow. "Then sidestep and launch a close-range Air Slash to end this!"

Ace turned and kicked a cloud of sand and dust at the lunging Mankey's eyes, before quickly darting to the side and launching an Air Slash as the Mankey would have passed. The Fighting type had put momentum into that attack, hopefully enough so that he charged right into that final attack.

Fortunately for Hawk, the Sand Attack went straight into Mankey's eyes burning them. Unfortunately, it made him trip and he landed on his face, still hurting him, but nearly as much as the Air Slash would of. But another plus for Ace wasthat Mankey was unable to see or avoid another potential battle ender, which a Tackle might have been able to do at this point.

"Well... so much for that. But a Tackle might work. Ace, you good for it?" Hawk asked, a small bead of sweat and a faint tinge of red showing his shock and embarassment and forgetting a common force of nature, at least in his eyes: tripping.

"Ok!" Ace complied with a Tackle attack, not at full power, but hopefully enough to knock the Mankey out for a good while. This had been one tough battle, after all.

Mankey obviously couldn't see the Tackle coming, he was trying to clean his eyes out with his hands. The tackle hit his side and sent him rolling across the ground. He started getting up, but than fell, defeated.

Mankey defeated. Ace gains 2 levels!

"Alright! Go, Pokeball!" Hawk announced, the red and white orb spinning from his hands and impacting Mankey's prone form. It opened upon impact and shot out the same light, in an attempt to capture Mankey.

Ace meanwhile, watched the Pokeball with interest. He hoped Mankey would be caught; the Pokemon was a great fighter. For a Fighting type, anyway.

Mankey fought at first, but then he seemed to remember his agreement and the Pokeball stopped shaking and gave a ping

"Alright, we caught 'im. And due to his love of lunging to perform his attacks, he shall henceforth be named Lunge!" Hawk announced, picking up the Pokeball and Ace tiredly landed on his shoulder.

"Wonderful, are you done flaunting your superiority? There's something I need you to see." Salia said from a few feet away. The Pokemorph walked over and blinked at the sight of an egg.

"Is that a Pokemon Egg?" Hawk pondered, picking up the Teal coloured egg and looking at it.

"Yeah, but it seems like its been abandoned." Ace commented, then looked to Hawk. "Y'know... we could use another team member, and that egg might hatch if we keep it."

"... hm... I guess. Why not, we'll keep a hold of the egg." And with that said, the group walked further down the Route, the Trainer holding the Egg carefully.

(Yep, I love reading people's different ways of finding eggs, my Budew nearly broke mine with an attack, it's always fun)


As Hawk walks, the trees begin to thicken, blocking out the sky more and more. A very thick portion of trees is the beginning of route 2, will Hawk head further into the unknown.
It's a Jungle out there.

Continue to Route 2 or look for more pokemon?

"Alright guys, looks like we're hitting Route Two soon. We should try to get to Silav, or as near to Silav as possible, soon." Hawk commented.

"Very well. Let's go." Salia said, before they group walked towards Route Two.
