Abby walked down the path quietly, Arthur perched on her shoulder as always. Arthur hated how quiet the atmosphere had become, so he broke the silence. "Abby, I think it's time we gave our new friend a proper greeting," he suggested.
Smiling softly, Abby picked up the Pokeball and released her new Ponyta. She seemed a bit nervous, eyes always on Abby. That was good; she was observing her surroundings first.
"So," Arthur asked, looking at Abby, "do you have any ideas for a name for her?"
Abby nodded. "Yes; I want to call her Sundancer," she decided.
"Alright, then; Sundancer it is."
Sundancer kept her eyes on this new trainer. Why didn't she speak? Arthur seemed to notice the confusion and explained.
"Abby hasn't spoken since she was six. She's an elective mute; she just chooses not to speak."
"Why?" Sundancer asked.
"If I knew why, I'd do something about it," he sighed.

A little Pokémon was listening to every word that was said by the threesome. They sounded like they were happy. They were together, at least. That was more than what could be said for him. With a sigh, he chose to watch on. Maybe their happy will become his happy. He longed to have a friend, but ever since the Nasty People captured his parents, he'd been lonely. Oh so lonely. His life... had no purpose. His pack had thrown him out. His parents were gone forever. He had no-one. When he fell, no-one would pick him up. When he was hungry, no-one would feed him. But there was something which pressed down on him more than anything else.
When he died, no-one would mourn him.
What was the point of living, if all it came to was death, to be forgotten and become part of the earth? The cat trotted ahead of Abby. He couldn't stand watching happy people any more. There was no point to his life. He lay down. This was where he would remain. He was thin, barely older than a baby, and this was where he would die. Right in the path of Abby, although he did not know that. The Skitty then realized how weak he was, how dry his throat was, and his eyes closed. He was so close to death already- but he didn't care any more. Let him die. He was just any old Skitty.

Abby was startled when she first noticed the Skitty. The poor dear looked so... she couldn't even think of a word for it. Sundancer noticed her agitation and looked away from her for a moment, noticing the Skitty as well.
Abby took careful steps towards the small Pokemon. She pulled a water bottle out of her bag nice and slowly. Good thing her aunt had given it to her just in case she needed it. Well, someone else needed it more than she did now.
She bent down and let a few drops come near the rim of the bottle. Arthur spoke the words that she would have said if she could speak. "Go on; drink up. I have plenty to spare."

Skitty heard feet come up to her. At first, they seemed not to slow. They didn't care either. He was so upset by the thought that no-one would care for him, not anyone would show him any kindness from their hearts. Life could be so cruel to some.
But... what was this? The feet were slowing, a form- no, three- were bending down? Over... over him? He sniffed, smelt the cool, refreshing, empty scent of water. He licked his dry lips. Water... that was... good. But no, he couldn't take it. He had no purpose, so why would this trainer offer him some water? He slowly got to his shaky paws, sitting up. He was pretty weak. ~I can't take any water. There's no place in this world for me.~ he sighed, looking depressed and lonely.

"Arthur, you remember, right? When I could still speak, there were some times when I thought like that," Abby thought.
"I know," Arthur answered her. Sundancer kept a close eye on them from a distance, just in case.
Once again, Arthur spoke Abby's words. "I used to think that way too. I thought I didn't matter to anyone, and that my voice would never be heard. I shut out my voice, and I haven't spoken since."
"But it didn't help; sulking like this never helps. All you can do is hang on until you can find someone who thinks you matter. I'm lucky I did just that."

Skitty looked up at the daemon. Those words... the daemon was speaking for his human. So, she had felt this way too at one point? But she'd kept on living? Well, perhaps it was a bit extreme to give up life. But then again, she had never spoken since. How strange. But this was different. Skitty knew he didn't matter. She told him that she had found someone who thought he mattered.
sighing, the cat slowly got to his feet, shaking his head sadly. Find a person who thinks he matters? ~I don't think such a creature exists, trainer. The Nasty People captured by parents and a number of our pack, and they blamed me and I was thrown out.~ he said sadly. He didn't look at all worried as a rather angry looking Sentret lunged for it, snarling. If Abby didn't do anything, Sentret might really hurt the weak Skitty!

Luckily, Abby noticed. How dare that Sentret pick on that poor Skitty? Luckily, she knew what to do. Arthur gave the order that she meant to give. "Sundancer, Tackle!"
Sundancer only hesitated for a second before following the order. She charged at the Sentret from the side, hoping to cut it off. If it attacked, Skitty would be in big trouble. This Abby girl... she was nice. She could probably trust her.

Sentret was indeed cut off from Skitty. The pink cat looked at the horse in surprise. Abby had sent her Pokémon out to save him? Why? Well, there had to be some other purpose to that, right? Perhaps she wanted her Pontya to gain levels or something. Yeah, probably.
Sentret snarled angrily at Sundancer. She was knocking it away? Oh no she wouldn't! It lunged for the Fire type, claws extended and ready to slash in a Scratch attack.

It worked! Abby was so pleased with herself and with Sundancer. But it wasn't over yet. Arthur transferred her commands once again. "Tackle again! But make sure you keep that Sentret away from Skitty!"
Sundancer took the scratch and winced, but she knew what she had to do. She charged again in another Tackle attack. Hopefully, she'd be able to do it.

Sentret stayed on it's feet, but those paws were dragged a few meters back. Oh, so that was what the Ponyta was doing. Keeping it from getting to Skitty. But why? The cat was so depressed it would be easy to beat up, and then it'd gain levels! Didn't Sundancer want levels, too? Well, that was the strange way of a trainer. Pft, it was smarter, of course.
The Sentret's tail was tensed. It'd get to Skitty. If it had to beat this trainer too, well, all the more levels. The ferret Pokémon sprang forwards on it's tail, hoping to Scratch Sundancer again.

Sundancer whinnied in pain as her nose got scratched. Abby knew she had to make her next move quick. Luckily for her, Arthur being a Hoothoot meant that he'd be able to send her orders to Sundancer in a split second, so there would be no wasted time.
"Growl, then Tackle!" Sundancer growled, aiming to try and intimidate the Sentret, then charged again in another Tackle.

Sentret heard the Growl, and shivered. That wasn't the most pleasant of sounds. The furry brown Pokémon felt his Attack stat ebb away a little. Hey! That was mean of Sundancer! Sentret was too busy grumbling to itself about how unfair that was, it didn't see the Tackle coming. The Normal type was flung away, landing heavily. When it rose, it looked as though just a couple of attacks would finish the battle.
Sentret knew this, but it was the determined sort, not the type to ever back down or give up. It snarled furiously, springing at the Ponyta in a mad Scratch attack. It wanted to hurt the opponent as much as possible.

"Sidestep back and Tackle from the side, full power!" was the next command. Sundancer was able to avoid the Scratch by sidestepping, and tackled with all her strength. Hopefully, this would work.

ooc// I checked your PC, and you haven't chosen Sundancer's Egg Move yet! You do know she had one of your choice, right?
ic// Sentret snarled as the stupid Fire type dodged his attack. He didn't really like it, as you can imagine, when opponents avoided being hurt. Why couldn't they just stay still and take it like a good Pokémon? After all, it was very annoying to have silly horses dodging about. Hmph. Coward. Probably had no battling experience- Sentret had thought too soon. Sundancer rammed into him, as hoped, from the side, catching him off guard and hurling him to the ground. He got to his feet in a flash, trying not to show that he was now panting.
Well, if he was tired, then Sundancer would be, too. After all, he could tell that he was at a higher level to the Pontya. The ferret Pokémon streaked forwards without warning, using another Scratch. However, he looked as though if the attack hit, the energy needed would mean he needed to catch his breath.

Sundancer was hit right along her flank. She winced, but she held her ground. She had to protect this Skitty. Abby started to think of a plan. Hang on... didn't all starter Pokemon have an Egg Move?
"Do you have any other attacks?" Arthur asked for her.
"Just one," Sundancer answered.
"Good; use it!" While Sentret stopped to catch its breath, Sundancer turned around and kicked out with both legs.
"Nice; it's Double Kick."
