As Weedle saw the nearing Water Gun attack, its wriggling became more and more desperate. The Pokémon gave a grunt and a squeal, legs waving helplessly in the air. Selek might have even felt a little pity for it. The Bug type rocked to and fro, trying to turn itself around. No! It would not be defeated. Not by a Magikarp, anyway. What would the other Pokémon say? They would all laugh at it. Oh, this was terrible!
The Water Gun, despite Weedle's efforts, struck it before it could turn itself over. The caterpillar was pounded into the ground further by the water, feeling the pain as it struck. Well... it would just not tell its friends what defeated it. Erm... a trainer's... Squirtle. That would be more believable. That is, unless Selek decided to catch Weedle. The Pokémon wouldn't mind. And, with that last thought, the Pokémon fainted.
Weedle was defeated! Voyager gains two levels!

Selek watched as the Weedle tried to turn itself over. He watched as the poor Weedle was hit by a Water Gun. Selek was not sure what to think. He always felt a deeper connection with Pokemon, he felt more open with them than with people. Adding another Pokemon to his team would be helpful.
When the Water Gun hit, it made him wince. It looked rather painful even though it came from Voyager, who hardly knew his own strength if he would just focus. When the Weedle fainted, Voyager splashed around in joy. "~I go 'em! I got 'em!"~ Voyager was overjoyed at winning, and as Selek had promised, he used one of his Antidotes in order to heal the Magikarp. "Well, Picard, do you believe we should catch him?" Selek asked, looking at his Alakazam Daemon. "Why not? I mean, it would be better then having just a Magikarp, in fact, if we catch a Normal Pokemon, we will have captured all three types of incredibly weak Pokemon!" Selek was not at all amused, and he took out a Pokeball and flung it at the Weedle, hoping to catch it despite Picard's remarks.

Weedle did not hear the discussion, for it was still fainted. The little poison caterpillar lay still, unmoving, through all of this, although Selek could probably have thrown the Pokéball a little earler, to minimize the risk of the Pokémon waking up and escaping. That aside, the Pokéball bounced off Weedle, drawing the wild Pokémon inside. Weedle, had it been awake, would normally have tried to parry the Pokéball, but it wasn't fit to do that in its current state.
The Pokéball, upon taking Weedle inside, began to shake even before it touched the ground. Weedle had, in fact, been not far from waking, and as a result had more energy to fight capture inside the device. It had suspected that Selek would try to catch it, what with only having a Magikarp, and so had been ready. However, Weedle was inevitably a fainted Pokémon, a weak Pokémon. It couldn't keep this up. Weedle felt the Pokéball overwhelm it, and on the outside, it stopped shaking and announced the capture with a sharp ping.
Weedle was caught!

With the Weedle caught, it prooved that Voyager could at least beat a Pokemon, and that it was not as useless as it once seemed, however it was still pretty useless in the eyes of Picard, and most other trainers. In Selek's eyes, however, it was something worth having. An added challenge, and added obstacle in battling. "Return, Voyager." Selek held both of his Pokemon in his hands, before he put Voyager's Pokeball on his belt, and held the Weedle's Pokeball in his hands. "Picard," Selek asked aloud, "you name it." Picard looked at the Pokeball, and blinked at Selek as if to ask, 'are you kidding me? Name it?'
"Alright, fine. I'll name him Nero." Selek nodded, not finding the name odd at all, and se tthe Pokeball back on his belt. "I suppose we are going to continue on with our brilliant Pokemon, Selek?" Selek did not see the sarcasim in this, "I think we'll stay on this Route for a little bit, it can't hurt." Picard only ruled his eyes, as if to say, 'yes it can.'

With that, a small feathery form fell into Selek's arms. It was a Flying type, no doubt, its grey feathers ruffled all over the place. The Pokémon looked up with wide, fearful eyes, its orange beak tipped in black. A Starly. Starly gave a frightened call, flapping its wings like crazy. It rose a few inches into the air with difficulty, then fell to the ground with a soft thud.
The Starly sighed, dragging a foot through the dirt. Its eyes then narrowed and it tried again, wings a blur as they flapped. It wasn't the smooth, perfect motion of normal Flying types. It was more of an awkward, stiff up-and-down motion. It didn't get Starly very far.

The small feathered form spooked Selek, but he did not drop the Starly. He instantly recognized it as being a Starly, and it was, just as Picard had predicted, at least, partly-a Normal Type. Picard laughed telepathically to Selek, and Selek did not catch his humor. The Starly then scrambled to get away from Selek, and Selek was not sure whether he should let it go on its way, or try to battle it-Selek then saw that it was hurt, and that battling it was currently out of the question.
Selek bent down, and kept his eyes focused on the wounded Starly, "hey there-" Selek had began to wonder where the Starly had fallen from, but he continued to try to talk to the Starly in a calm tone, "you do not have to escape; I'm not going to hurt you..." Even though Selek socialized better with Pokemon, it was still rather hard for him to socialize like others would. It simply was not the better part of his nature.

Wasn't going to hurt it? Oh, it had heard that one before. Starly strained its wings, attempting to get away better. Yes, yes! It was in the air- it was doing it! Right, er, try leaning like this- aaaah! Spinning! Stop! Starly stopped spinning, but its wings were tired and the bird plopped back to the ground. The Fying type waited for the trainer to catch it or eat it or something now it had shown clear signs of weakness. Oh, dear, this wasn't good! Starly gave a fearful twitter, shrinking away.
When no blow came, Starly looked at Selek with curiousity, head cocked slightly to one side. ~Hey... you stuck to your word, you didn't hurt me! Thank you!~ it grinned, which is no easy feat with a beak, before looking at its wings and sighing. The Flying type looked like a very ordinary Starly; no fatter, thinner, squatter or anything than usual. It was a mystery as to how it did not know how to fly. ~Trainer... can you help me to fly?~ it asked, hoping that the daemon would have experience of having wings.

Picard translated what the Starly said, and Selek was not sure how to answer. He had no experience with flying, and Picard only had a little when he was still able to change, when, on occasion, Picard would change into a Pidgeot. "If you think I am going to change my opinion to help that bird-" Picard began, speaking telepathically to Selek. "I think you should, if he learns fast enough it won't be a waste, and what do we have to loose?" "Well even though your dignity may not matter to you, it matters to me." Selek's eyes narrowed at Picard, and maybe Selek would have attacked him, had not Picard looked away, showing the tattered mustache that was a sign of Selek's abuse.
Selek sighed, and looked at the little Starly. "I'm not sure what we can do for you, but-I think my Daemon may remember how to fly, if only a little bit." Selek then answered Starly's surprised comment, "why would I hurt a Pokemon?" Selek then looked at Picard, who walked over and sat down next to him. Picard began to communicate with the Starly, but one could tell he was not so very enthused. "Well, it has been a while such I had such worrisome appendages. But that leg of yours looks like it may need some healing first off." Picard translated what he told the Starly, and Selek responded to Picard almost immediately, "The leg is fine, you are just trying to make excuses."
Picard sighed and then began to try to remember how to fly. It had been so long ago, and because he could no longer change shape, it would be hard for Picard to remember. "Your first step is to have some sort of running start, I think. Starly's aren't known to be the best fliers. After you take a running start, leap into the air and start flapping your wings like mad." It was easy to tell that Picard had little faith in the Starly.

ooc// You ever read the His Dark Materials series? Once a daemon stops being able to change, it can never change again. So Picard won't be able to change, 'cos Selek's too old. He could still remember how to fly, of course. And Starly's legs a perfectly fine. If you picked that up from 'dragging a foot through the dirt', it did that because it was depressed, like a person might drag a stick or their foot through dirt, or kick stones. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

OOC: I did read the Dark Materials series, and I do know that Picard wouldn't be able to change, I was planning on the fact that he would remember how too from one-upon-a-time being a Pidgeot when he was able to change. If I didn't make that clear than I am so very sorry. And as for the Starly's leg, I totally misread that, haha.

Starly could see truth in the fact that Starlys were not the best of flyers. None the less, it wanted to fly more than anything. Flying types, as the name suggested, were supposed to fly, not waddle. Starly was a little surprised that Picard had suggested flapping its wings like crazy; that hadn't helped so far, had it? Well, it was worth a try, of course. ~Thanks for helping. I asked other Flying types, but they just said 'it's instinctual'. Not much help there.~ it nodded.
Starly then raced in a straight line, spreading its wings wide. It jumped. As it felt itself begin to fall, it flapped. Then again, its wings a blur. Alas, it did little to keep Starly airborne. The bird rose higher than ever before, before it lowered, slower than before. It landed softly, sighing. ~I suppose that was something, at least.~ it sighed. Other Starly flew with just a flap every now and then, once they'd found an air current. Starly seemed a little too... chubby for its too-small wings to lift it. Perhaps it was in need of a work out, that was all. A workout like... a battle?

Picard had expected the Starly to simply fall, even though it had gotten pretty high one could tell that it needed some sort of help. Maybe it was that it was too chubby, in which case it would need a work out. Something that Picard hoped it wouldn't have needed, but that Selek didn't mind. Picard then spoke to Selek telepathically, "Not waste our time? You're going to ask this Starly to battle you, aren't you?" Selek nodded as if it was obvious, and Picard simply rolled his eyes and returned to Selek's side.
"Well, Starly, would you like to battle me? It may help you if you try to fly afterward." Picard seemed to have little interest in battling, probably because he hated seeing Selek pull out Voyager and act like it was Kay, when no true trainer would ever catch a Magikarp, let alone battle it out in the open and be happy about it. At least to Picard, thats how it was.

Starly thought about Selek's offer. A battle, huh? Interesting. Maybe, maybe he should. He looked at himself. He was on the chubby side, too heavy for his wings, which were small for a Starly, to lift him. He supposed that yes, it would be best to battle. He'd lose weight because of it, and so it would make him find it easier to fly. Probably. Well, there was no harm in it, was there? It was a win-win situation. Even if he lost, he'd lose weight and might be caught by this trainer.
~OK, sure. I suppose I could do with losing a few pounds.~ the bird said, readying himself. He wondered what Pokémon Selek had; an Electric type, maybe? No, he must be a fairly new trainer. A starter, then. Well, that could be anything.

Picard couldn't even stand to even watch the battle, and he had wished he could ignore it. However, Picard knew well that Selek was a good trainer, he knew just about everything about the mechanics of the battle, and it was to be expected with how smart Selek was. Even so, Picard still detested the fact that Selek had chosen a Magikarp as a Starter. Even the professor had been surprised-but Selek had no real way to see that it was wrong to have a Magikarp.
"Go, Voyager!" Selek sent out his Shiny Magikarp, and the poor thing flopped around happily. It was oblivious to the Starly, as it truly was unable to see it as it flopped around. He would be in for a nasty surprise if he did not listen to Selek's orders quickly, however the slightly slow Magikarp had not quite gotten that down yet. "Voyager, I need you to focus!" Voyager stopped flopping around for a moment, and its eyes looked around, until it caught the gray form of the Starly. "~Ooh A battle?~" Voyager became excited being in another battle, and it flopped around once more. Voyager didn't care that the chances of him winning were incredibly small. In fact, he was simply overjoyed to be called out of the Poke ball! Oh, so many little things amused this Pokemon.
