Selek listened when the Starly spoke, and with a slight smile, he nodded. The least he could do would be to help the Starly, after all Selek's team needed all the help that it could get. Taking out a Pokeball, Selek opened it, and gently tossed it at the Starly. The Pokeball opened up and sucked the Starly in.
"Great," Picard murmured. "whats our Pokemon count now? A Water-type, a Bug-type, a Ghost-type, and whats this? A Normal-type? We're going to get far." Selek ignored Picard, not wanting to show his anger at his Daemon, he would do his best not to from now on. However such a promise was a weak one, it always ended the same way with Picard being slapped. Always.

Starly remained as still as he could, the Pokéball barely moving before it announced the sucessful capture of the bird. Now the Flying type would be on Selek's team, and just because it was common didn't mean Picard was right in saying it was weak. He could hear the muffled voices from inside the capture device, in fact, and felt a little insulted as the daemon called him a Normal type when he thought of himself as more of a Flying type.
Starly was caught! Move onto Route Two or look for more Pokémon?
Name: Species: Starly Gender: Male Level: 6 Ability: Keen Eye Attacks: Tackle, Growl, Quick Attack Personality: This Starly is tough and determined, but a little on the chubby side. OK, a lot on the chubby side. So much so, he has difficulty flying. With a little exercise and battling, however, he could make a very speedy flier.

A Pokémon was watching. Watching, waiting to make its move. Should it attack this trainer? At first, it intended to right after the battle with Weedle, since he'd used a Magikarp. He'd won, however. Then the same fighting against a Starly; how come he only ever fought using his Magikarp? Where was the fun in only ever fighting with one Pokémon? Perhaps the Pokémon would fight, but lay down a few rules so that it would get enjoyment out of the battle. Yes, that seemed about right.
This done, the Pokémon leapt out at Selek. A Bellsprout, it seemed. ~Stand and fight, you mangy coward!~ it yelled at the top of its voice, sending out a strong vine to hold the trainer still. Was he even a trainer? He looked in his twenties, which was a bit old for most trainers. Most trainers were teenagers. Oh, whatever. Bellsprout continued. ~I would like to fight you, on one condition. I will fight any of your Pokémon- other than that Magikarp. Honestly, have some originality! Fight me with any of your other Pokémon, just not the Magikarp!~ Bellsprout shouted.

Selek was rather surprised to hear the Bellsprout-which after Picard translated-Selek grew even more surprised at how harsh the Bellsprout was being. Picard couldn't help but chuckle as the Bellsprout tried to keep Selek from moving by using its vines. "I see our delightful Magikarp as already stirred up the neighbors." It was a joke, something Selek did not understand and simply made Picard chuckle more. It was rather hilarious, after all!
Selek kept himself calm, or at least as calm as he could. Something Picard knew would soon backfire upon him later. It didn't look like Selek would be able to ignore the challenger, and so he nodded finally answering the Bellsprout. "Well, alright. If you say so. Go, Nova!" Selek took out one of his Poke Balls and tossed it. The poke ball's energy took the form of a Ghastly; a Pokemon that was resistant to both Grass and Poison attacks, which would make the battle rather interesting indeed. Nova blinked a few times, coming to terms with where she was. She smiled a little bit, and then looked to see the Bellsprout, and to see that it had her trainer in its vines.
"~I see someone is in a tight squeeze here! Why don't we get to the root of the problem, then?~" Nova then laughed for a short moment not over-doing it. Of course Picard had a short smile, as lame as the pun was and as the Bellsprout had held Selek by a vine and not a root. But the effect was still there, simply lost on Selek. "Is this good enough, Bellsprout?" Selek asked innocently, trying to loosen the vines off his leg. Nova didn't seem to realize she'd have to battle the Bellsprout, which wasn't something she was good at, she was always afraid she'd hurt the other Pokemon.

Bellsprout smiled. Yes, this was fine. A Gastly. True, the Ghost type wouldn't feel the pain from its only attack, Vine Whip, so much, but she'd still feel the pain. She'd feel a lot of pain if it hit hard enough. It could feel Selek putting up a good struggle against its vines. The last victim it had jumped out on had been eleven, and so the older than average trainer was a lot stronger than the last victim had been. Bellsprout tightened its grip, smiling. It loved to cause annoyance to people.
Bellsprout could see that Nova hadn't quite grasped the fact that she was battling yet. How stupid. Being off guard was always a mistake in the Grass type's eyes. If you were off guard, then how could you know when someone was attacking you? You didn't, that's what. Bellsprout had the element of surprise, and it didn't want to screw it up. The Pokémon withdrew the vine as quickly as it could, then lashed it out at Nova in a Vine Whip attack. The battle had begun.

Selek grew somewhat frustrated at the fact that the Bellsprout did not let go of his leg but made the grip tighter. Picard didn't say anything, but a look of humor and a look of annoyance was mixed into Picard's face. He seemed to find it amusing, even though he too did not completly enjoy it.
When the grip suddenly loosend, Selek looked up to see the Bellsprout about to launch a vine-whip at Nova. Nova, it seemed did not look truly interested in battling, or did not know she was battling. "Nova, look out!" Nova took Selek's advice, and moved out of the way of the vine-whip at the last second. "This is a battle, Nova, I need you to pay attention." Nova nodded-or at least it seemed like she did. "Now Nova, use Hypnosis!" Nova hesitated for a moment before eventually unleashing hypnosis, hoping too put Bellsprout to sleep. However, the delay in her attack could mean it was dodged. It was all up to chance, now.

Bellsprout saw the beginning of the Hypnosis, and felt its eyelids start to droop. It felt so wonderfully calm. This move was so relaxing, it could hardly be called a move. All its worries had been calmed- it wasn't even annoyed that Nova had dodged the Vine Whip. It was sinking into a sleep, and it realised this as its eyelids drooped further. That wouldn't be good! When asleep a Pokémon was unable to do anything to defend itself! Bellsprout struggled, resisting the poorly thrown Hypnosis and suceeding, leaving the Grass type merely sluggish and drowsy.
Bellsprout knew it couldn't risk getting caught in an attack like that again. So, Selek's style was to completely disable his opponent before attacking? Through the Bellsprout's eyes, it saw this as cowardice. Bellsprout itself preferred a clean fight to the ones where the opponent did little or nothing, and so wasn't the sort who'd use stat modifyers or status inducers. Presently, he fired another Vine Whip. It was surprisingly accurate, but slow and weak.

Nova was rather surprised to see that her hypnosis hadn't worked, and Selek decided it was best to change tactics. It was easy to tell that this Bellsprout meant business, it wasn't like the others in the fact it seemed to have a very strong ethic with fighting. It seemed to grow annoyed easily, and so it was to be decided to simply follow the flow of the Bellsprout's motives. 'Smart, Selek. Show them just how much raw power Nova has.' Picard said telepathically, and somewhat sarcastically. After all, Nova had only one physical move.
With Nova in the surprised state that her hypnosis had failed the vine whip hit her, and though it could be seen as she held one eye shut for a moment that it hurt, she easily shook it off. The grass attack hardly had much of an effect on her. "Nova, counter with Lick!" Nova hesitated a second more, seeming unsure before finally unleashing the attack. Something that may very well cost her. 'Great. The only good Pokemon you have and she won't attack.' Picard mused, again telepathically, and again somewhat upset.

Bellsprout watched as its attack didn't deal much damage on Nova. That would probably be because it had then been sleepy, as it still was. It watched Nova hesitate before attacking. Maybe it could use that to its advantage later on in the fight. This was a Lick attack, right? Interesting. A full-power Vine Whip added to Nova's type resistancy would be a barely noticable bit less effective as the Lick. Speaking of the Lick, since Bellsprout was so drowsy, it didn't do anything to stop the attack, and shuddered as the Gastly's toungue scraped against it.
This attack sharpened it up again, and it decided to make its move again. Nova was close from the Lick attack, and so it would be able to hopefully get in a good hit because of the range. It sent out another Vine Whip, aimed at Nova's toungue which was poking out from the Lick. Because of the area it was targeting and the close range, this might actually be as strong as the Lick Bellsprout had just taken.

Selek watched as the attack had woken up the Bellsprout. There wasn't much else that Nova could do to harm the Bellsprout besides that attack. When the Bellsprout unleashed the Vine Whip, Selek knew very well that Nova would not be able to full dodge the attack. She could easier let the attack wrap around her tongue, which would hinder her beyond belief the rest of the battle, or she could pull in her tongue and get hit with the Vine Whip directly. Even though the Vine Whip wouldn't be that strong, a Gastly's defense wasn't the best. Selek had to make a decision, and fast.
"Nova, look out, Bellsprout is aiming for your tongue." Nova tried to move away but the Vine-Whip soon had itself wrapped around her tongue, rendering Nova unable to speak-which made Selek quite happy and Picard not so much-but also made her unable to attack, which would hurt her quickly unless she got out of it. "Nova use Spite!" The move would take away 4 PP's of Bellsprout's Vine Whip, hence making it a little weaker and hopefully allowing Nova to move freely again, if only for a little bit. It wasn't very fun having your tongue unable to move.

ooc// Hm, I never thought to set what PP changing moves do... let's say they disable the foe's last attack for a turn.
ic// Bellsprout was pleased with the outcome of that. It had been aiming to just hit the toungue like a normal hit then move out, but it seemed it managed to wrap the Vine Whip around. Interesting, but OK. The Grass type knew that that must have caused Nova pain, and then gave her an experimental squeeze. However, she then used some kind of Ghost type move. Was this called Spite? It thought that might be the case. The vines shot back, releasing Nova. Bellsprout wasn't so happy about this.
The Pokémon tried to use a Vine Whip again, but found it couldn't. Oh? That was weird. Very unusual indeed. Why couldn't it attack? Oh... the Spite. This must be what it did. Ah. That could be a problem. Vine Whip was its only offensive move, and now it couldn't use that it was a little stuck for what to do. Eventually it opted for a Growth. Its form appeared to grow larger and larger, before returning to its orgininal size. This had raised Bellsprout's attack power for when it could attack again. Other than that, now would be a good chance to sneak in a move.

Nova chuckled at the results of the Spite. In fact, it was very funny to watch how the Vine Whips shot back, so much so that it allowed her to ignore the pain from the Vine Whip's squeeze. Still the Vine Whip took its effect. "Nova, use lick again!" Being that Lick was Nova's only offensive attack, it was really all that she could do besides Hypnosis. However Nova still found herself hesitating. Each hesitation became a little shorter, but Selek knew she had to grow out of the hesitations. "Hurry, Nova!" With a quick blink Nova unleashed her attack.

In the time Nova hesitated, Bellsprout was preparing itself. After all, it knew she was using a Lick, so why not try to be prepared? Her hestiations would be her downfall! That'd make her learn the hard way, so it'd be helping her trainer out too, right? Anyway, Bellsprout needed to concentrate. It watched as the Gastly moved forwards, and then nimbly dodged the attacking tongue. Of course; Bellsprout were well known for being nimble and able to dodge.
Bellsprout wanted to use a Vine Whip, it desperately did. It attmepted again, despite knowing that this would use up its entire turn no matter what the outcome. It tried, and got nothing. Angry now, it grew more and more frustrated at the fact that the Spite was still in play. It paused then to take a deep breath and calm itself down; if it wasn't calm and focused, it could loose the battle. It managed to get a small vine, but it wasn't enough to attack with. Next turn, then, maybe.

Nova became fairly annoyed at seeing that the Bellsprout had dodged again. After all, it was very annoying to use an attack to disable your foe and have your foe simply dodge anything you throw at it. However, Nova simply waited for Selek's command once more as the Bellsprout still found itself unable to attack. At least that was good. Selek realized that it was going to be fairly hard to win with Nova if she kept hesitating. She'd have to learn quick, if only it was easier to do so!
"Nova, use Lick again, but don't hesitate!" Nova desperately wanted to hesitate. It was easy to say she wasn't too thrilled about having to attack, but she did so, anyway. The hesitation was not there this time, and even though it felt good to not hesitate, Nova still felt fairly uneasy about it. Maybe the attack would hit this time though.
