Blade walked along the route, pausing often to check out various objects, along with Fyren, who was already warming up to his new trainer. "So what's the deal with these strange stones?" Fyren asked eventually, eyeing one of the strange, runed and ruined stone pillars that they'd been bumping into as they moved deeper into a little-used section of the route. "I don't know," Blade replied, frowning at the latest in the series, "They're unlike anything I've ever heard about."

ooc// By the way, there aren't actually any stone pillars on route one... I would have mentioned if there was anything unusual in the route's description...
ic// A Pokémon was moving happily about, sniffing here and there. What a nice day it was. It was cold and there was lots of lovely snow on the ground, and all the trees had a nice earthy smell. She leapt into a mound of snow, smiling at the satisfying crunch it made and rolled about a bit, completely hidden from view in the snowy lump. She could still see out through a hole in the side she'd made rolling. Through it, she could see a trainer.
A... a trainer?! Oh no! She moved about frantically for a moment, not realising that Blade wouldn't have noticed her until the snowy mound started moving and falling apart as the Pokémon squirmed. Eventually, a Zigzagoon was revealed, looking pretty scared and with a lot of snow in her fur. She whimpered at Blade.

(OOC: Oops... ^^; sorry, Birdy... Although, these could technically actually be off the normal route.
If Blade and Fyren hadn't already been alerted by the noise, they most certainly would have been alerted by a snowdrift falling down. "A Zigzagoon," Blade said, holding up the Pokedex he carried. "Zigzagoon: the Raccoon Pokemon. Zigzagoon wanders its territory in search of interesting objects, which it will then pick up and carry back to its den. Zigzagoon's famous zig-zag walking pattern is because of its curiosity and generally short attention span."
"Let's try being friendly," Blade said, going down onto one knee and reaching into his backpack. He pulled out a Pokeblock case and examined it for a moment. There was a click as he selected one of the smoothest blocks with the widest-ranging flavour, and placed it as far from himself as he could. "There," he said, "See? Food."

Zigzagoon saw the trainer reaching into his backpack. What was he doing? Was he getting out a Pokéball to try and catch her? She hoped not! He took out a thingy, a case of some sort. Eh? She'd never seen one of those before. She was curious. Then he took something out, and a wonderful smell hit her nose. Her eyes widened in delight, and she grinned, tail wagging like a puppy.
Zigzagoon padded causiously up to the Pokéblock, sniffing it. No poison... it was definately food. Smelled good, too. The racoon took a curious nibble, then smiled and ate the rest. That was delicious! She'd never tasted anything like that before in her entire life! She looked at Blade, amazed. ~Where does that food come from, it's wonderful!~ she exclaimed, knowing his daemon would be able to translate.

"I make them myself," Blade replied immediately; as a Pokemorph, he could understand the language completely, meaning Avartiath didn't need to translate. He clicked the case again, placing the block on the ground, this time a bit closer to himself. Fyren stood behind him looking over his new trainer's shoulder with evident curiosity, but there was no anger in his eyes.

Zigzagoon was impressed. ~You... you mean you made this?~ she asked, amazed. How could someone make food? Bushes and trees made food. To some Pokémon, she was food. She hadn't experienced man-made food before, and she was both curious and a little confused. The racoon wanted to know more about this stuff. ~How? It doesn't look like anything I've tasted before. How can you make food? Food grows on plants, not humans!~
Her nose twitched again, and her eyes shifted to find another chunk of the delicious food. It was closer to Blade this time. Should she? Well, he didn't seem like he was trapping her. He didn't look full of anger and malice, and Fyren didn't either. She krept a little closer, nibbling the food while watching the human carefully and warily.

Blade couldn't help smiling. "Oh no, no," he said, chuckling, "I take berries and slice them up and turn them into paste, then mix them together and make these blocks." "He makes them real good, too," Avartiath said, grinning, and causing Blade to chuckle again, this time in an embarrassed manner. Fyren leaned forwards slightly, sniffing at the Zigzagoon's scent.

He... ground them into paste and mixed them together? No wild Pokémon Zigzagoon had ever heard of had ever thought about mixing things together. The result was quite delicious. One thing the fluffy cute Pokémon still couldn't really understand was why the Pokéblock was hard like this, rather than the soft paste it was originaly. Humans were strange creatures, and it was through this meeting which Zigzagoon had finally understood why so many wild Pokémon wanted to learn more about them.
Zigzagoon sort of wanted to learn more about humans, too. They were such interesting, unusual creatures. Very smart, too. She wagged her tail as Fyren sniffed her scent, moving a little closer to sniff hers in return. ~You humans are so interesting. How do you get the paste into blocks? Is it with fire? I've never seen a human use a power like a Pokémon before, so it can't be anything like that...~ she said. Then again, he was a Pokémorph.

"Well, I'm not entirely sure," Blade said, sounding embarrassed, "I know how Poffins are made, but these aren't Poffins. I use a machine to form them into these hard little blocks that are perfect for Pokemon. Poffins are round treats baked in a little pan."
Avartiath immediately dove into Blade's pack, coming out a moment later with his Poffin Case. "So that's where it went," Blade said, opening it and showing the Zigzagoon one of the small, ovoid objects that were poffins. He fed this blue-sprinkled red one to Fyren, who enjoyed it immensely.

Zigzagoon smiled as Blade explained, then fed a poffin to Fyren. They actually did look quite tasty. The Houndour had enjoyed a blue and red one, but Zigzagoon wasn't sure which one she would like. Well, she supposed she would find out in time, right? For now, she wanted to try something. She moved a little closer to Blade, weighing out the pros and cons of what she wanted to try.
She could gain levels and experience, but Blade might capture her... that might not be a bad thing, however. If she won but thought that Blade's battling style was good, she might still ask him to catch her. Maybe... yes, why not? It would be a bit of fun. ~Can I get a battle off you?~ she asked, watching Fyren carefully. She was ready for a fight, fur fluffed up to make herself look bigger.

Blade smiled. "Sounds good," he said, standing up, and stepping back. Fyren immediately took up position in front of him, leaving steaming footprints in the snow as he did so. "A battle it is," Fyren said, looking to his trainer, "What do you want me to do?" "Hold back until she attacks, then counter with Fire Fang," Blade instructed, nodding, "That should be good for the first moves."

Zigzagoon could see that Blade was letting her have the first move, but he'd already ordered his Pokémon to attack... what was the point in that? There wasn't one. He should have waited until she'd attacked to give the order, because now she knew exactly what to look out for. The Fire Fang. She was originally intending to use a Tackle, but that would have got her too near to those jaws. Instead, she used a Tail Whip, then leapt backwards.
As she ran in the traditional Zigzagoon zigzag, she glanced behind her. The Fire Fang looked as if it would hit after all her efforts. However, she just managed to dodge the attack in the nick of time. She sighed in relief, waiting to see what Fyren would do next. She was prepared to try and dodge again, although she wasn't sure if she'd manage to dodge something if he attacked right now.

"All right then," Blade muttered, "Let's try something else. Fyren! Ember!" Fyren opened his mouth, and a series of flares of fire shot out, spraying somewhat like a shotgun; snow sizzled as the flames hit it.

Ah, Ember. That wasn't so good for Zigzagoon; flames were harder to outrun than a puppy. Still, she attempted to dodge. Unfortunately for her, since the attack had been made at such a close range, she didn't stand much of a chance of doing so. She felt the flames singe her fur painfully, and yelped because of it. Luckily she wasn't burned, but that didn't make the pain of the Ember any less painful. She narrowed her eyes at Fyren in anger.
Zigzagoon knew she had to hit the Houndour back. She only had one offensive move at her current level, but she could still pack a punch with it. Plus, Fyren had a weakened defense stat thanks to her Tail Whip, so hopefully, if her attack hit it would be just a little bit more painful. She charged at Fyren, the racoon's face determined and her mind set only on hitting her target. However, if she was sucessful, it would be only too easy to hit her back.

Fyren automatically twitched to the side, an instant later hearing Blade's order to evade, and counter. Fire Fang again, eh? The Zigzagoon hit his front left leg; his right was off the ground. However, he managed to get his mouth around, and, as he was swept off his feet, his mouth moved in on the Zigzagoon's back. Flames coated the teeth, threatening to cause a burn if the attack hit.
