Blade clenched his fist, letting out a satisfied growl. "Tough battle," he said to Fyren, who nodded, "But we've caught our first Pokemon."
He picked up the ball, and put it in his pocket, crossing his arms and looking up into the sky. "How many more adventures are we going to have?" he wondered, "I know this is just the first... but..."

There was another Pokémon heading Blade's way. It was odd for this Pokémon to be up at this hour, and it seemed the Pokémon knew this too. It was grumbling away as it came down the route, very annoyed about being awake. Sometime along, somewhere nearish Route Two, it heard Blade walking along. So, there was a trainer here, was there? The Pokémon thought about it for a moment. Well, it was in a bad mood. It would attack, of course, taking out its anger on the trainer and his Pokémon!
The Pokémon leapt from its hidden place in the bushes, snarling and growling. It was reckognisable as a Poochyena, a reasonably strong Pokémon. This one was baring its teeth at Blade, full of rage. It didn't like being woken up, and although Blade hadn't been the one to disturb it, it would attack him any way. It waited for the trainer to do something, perhaps give him a target for his battle.

Blade turned to look at the Poocheyena, Fyren sitting down at his feet and yawning. "By the way you're acting, I assume you want a battle," Blade said, casually tossing an empty pokeball from hand to hand, "Well, it you want it that way..."
Fyren stood back up and Leered at the Poocheyena, before running forwards, his teeth bared, and flaming.
His jaws slammed shut, and he snarled.

Poochyena watched as the trainer let his Houndour race up to him, eyes glinting. Poochyena's fur bristled, its shoulders hunching and teeth baring as it entered a battling stance. It felt its defense stat drop a little, but tried not to show it on its face in case Fyren took it as a sign of weakness or something. It did not in any way want to appear weak. That move Fyren had used- that had been a Leer, right? Hm, so now things would hurt just that little bit more.
It could make its attacks hurt a little bit more, too. Sitting back and tilting its head towards the sky, muzzle pointing upwards, the puppy let loose a low, loud Howl. This boosted its attack stat, and the Pokémon was pleased because of that. It then charged quickly at Fyren in a Tackle. Fyren's and Poochyena's attacks would both deal the same damage against each other now, since Poochyena's defense was lower and attack was higher. The Tackle was nearing Fyren now.

OOC: Birdy, you have not concluded Fyren's attack. Are you saying that his jaws slammed shut on thin air far from Poocheyena? If so... then he didn't. He was aiming his attack for Poocheyena. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear.

Fyren had been half-expecting such a move after the last battle, and he jumped neatly out of the way. "Please," he said, "My last opponent tried that kind of move as well." "Fyren, use Howl, then Ember," Blade ordered.
Blade Howled to the skies, increasing his attack power, then took a deep breath, and unleashed the Ember attack; the super-hot sparks hissed as they hit the ground and trees, which were still damp from the recent thaw.

ooc// Sorry, I hadn't realised he'd used a Fire Fang. Edited;
ic// Poochyena watched as the trainer let his Houndour race up to him, eyes glinting. Poochyena's fur bristled, its shoulders hunching and teeth baring as it entered a battling stance. It could make its attacks hurt a little bit more, too. That would mean that the Fire Fang he was now using would be extra painful. Poochyena managed to dodge, smiling in relief as it did so. Now, onto its turn. Sitting back and tilting its head towards the sky, muzzle pointing upwards, the puppy let loose a low, loud Howl. This boosted its attack stat, and the Pokémon was pleased because of that. It then charged quickly at Fyren in a Tackle. Fyren dodged as well, jerking his foot out of the way at the last instant. Already, he was beginning to understand his new trainer's battle style, and approved of it tremendously. "Please," he said, chuckling, "My last battle included a lot of that move as well. I'm getting quite good at dodging it." "Howl," Blade ordered, eyes glinting, "then Ember!" Fyren let out a bone-chilling howl, which made even Blade shiver, before blasting forth the spray of sparks that was Ember. The sparks mainly hissed against wet objects or rocks, and went out, being smothered by the water.

Poochyena, in watching Fyren, could see clearly what Blade's preferred battle style was; lower your opponents stats as much as possible and dodge, attacking at the same time. What could be learned if you didn't take a good hit once in a while? The Howl raised Fyren's attack stat, and he spoke to Poochyena. Hm... he shouldn't get overconfident, that wouldn't be good for him. However familiar you were with a move, you could always be hurt by it. Since the majority of the Ember has fizzled out on rocks and stuff, not much of it hit Poochyena, something it was pleased about.
The puppy winced ever so slightly as the small amount of Ember scortched its back. That hadn't hurt much at all, but the strength of it was of course upped by its lowered defense and Poochyena's raised attack. Well, two could play at that game. Poochyena tilted back its head, emitting a long note in a wavering Howl attack. This raised its attack stat, meaning its attacks would be more powerful, adding onto the previous Howl. Once that was over, it charged in a speedy and strong Tackle.

Fyren was caught slightly off-guard, and had one of his legs knocked from under him. The blow didn't actually do that much damage, despite its raised power, but succeeded in knocking the Houndour off-balance for a moment. "Howl again," Blade ordered, "Then Fire Fang." he was seriously worried about his Pokemon; he had taken a beating in the last battle. Fyren Howled; his Howl sounded more fearsome than the Poocheyena's, mainly due to the fact that is was one long, continuous, bone-chilling note. He then leaned in, as the Poocheyena was exposed because of his attack, and brought his teeth slamming shut; the move was from such a short range that the likelihood that it would miss was minimal.

Poochyena whimpered as Fyren closed in for a Fire Fang. It couldn't really see how it would manage to dodge this move. Did it really want to be constantly attacked? After all, Blade and Fyren were displaying typical bully behavoir; make sure they're more powerful and attack. Poochyena had been taught that all bullies were idiots, and cowardly. It had been told not to bother fighting them, but be braver and not rise to their violence. That was what stupid bullies looked for; a reaction. If it didn't react, the annoying morons wouldn't attack.
Poochyena then did what was in the nature of every Poochyena in the world; it fled from battle. Its kind never fought unfair battles, and that was clearly what this was becoming. And so, it raced off, avoiding the attack and glaring at Blade from a few feet away. ~If you're just going to keep raising your stats to fight unfairly, I don't see how either of us is going to learn anything from this battle. It's pretty boring, too. Sorry, but that's how it is.~ it was brutally honest, cold dislike on its tone.

Fyren was set off-balance by the fact that his attack missed, and ended up face-first in the mud. He emerged a moment later, spitting mud out. "We will, in all likelyhood, face opponents stronger than we are," Blade said, ears twitching, "And Fyren took several bad hits in the last battle. If you want us to fight without using Leer or Howl, then fine. But the same strictures will apply to you as well. You want a fair fight, then you have one." Fyren nodded, before shaking his head violently to get the mud out of his eyes. "Ack, fffft!"

Poochyena grunted. Hmph, it didn't really feel like fighting too much any more. It felt more like... well, to be honest, it wasn't entirely sure. Dog like instincts were whirling around its brain, telling it to do various things. One of them wanted to flee, another wanted to bark, another do a trick, more wanted to be petted and played with, all sorts of things. Right now, it cocked its head to on side, one ear floppy while the other pointed up. It was a very cute like.
~No, thanks. I don't think I want a battle. I think I'm rather... well, meet your other Pokémon, please.~ Poochyena requested, a big doggy grin on its face.

"Well," Blade said, looking embarrassed, "I just caught my other Pokemon, and she probably hasn't recovered from the battle yet." Fyren nodded, trying to rub mud out of his face.
"OK, then," he said after a moment, holding out the Pokeball, "Zigzagoon, come on out."
The Zigzagoon appeared in a blaze of light, and looked around groggily. "Wazgoinon?" she mumbled; she was still effectively fainted, but had enough energy to interact with her trainer, and any nearby Pokemon.

Poochyena looked at the Zigzagoon. Blade hadn't called her by a name as he had done to Fyren. Was that because she was newer? She wondered whether she would remain nameless or if he'd decide at some point to name her. She felt she might like a name; after all, she knew herself would. The puppy padded forward, sniffing the racoon with interest. So... that was what a Zigzagoon smelled like. She would remember that for future reference.
At that, a small purple thing connected with the Poochyena, sending her collapsing to the ground with an 'oof'. A male Nidoran was standing on top of the puppy, pounding the poor thing over and over again. Poochyena was whining, and fell still before Nidoran turned to Blade. He didn't look to pleased to see the trainer. In fact, he was snarling, ears flattened in an agressive expression. ~All right, trainer! Use a Potion to heal one of your Pokémon, then fight me!~ he growled.
